Ed White purchased this house in 2003
They constructed this house in 2003, as owner-builders, after visiting Kauai every year from 1987 until 2003, except for the year after Iniki. They stayed in Princeville, Poipou, Kapaa and Kekaha during their many visits and chose to build in Kekaha because it had the best year round weather on the island.
They designed this house for large families, multi-generation family gatherings and visits by several friends. There are few, if any, other properties on the island that have 3 master suites and 2 family rooms.
They placed particular emphasis on the bathrooms ensuring that each bath was spacious with oversized showers and double vanities.
With the panoramic ocean view, they added 1350 square feet of covered lanais and large sliding glass doors in all bedrooms and family rooms to maximize the ocean view.
Finally, they added central air because the west side is the sunny side of the island.
This home has first class everything...decor, comfort, cleanliness, and amenities. For 25 years, our group of 5 seniors has stayed in vacation rentals all over the west coast, Italy, Canada and Costa Rica...this house tops them all. Yes, the road is noisy, but we soon stopped hearing it. We highly recommend this vacation rental...it is tops.
We had a fabulous 10 day stay in Kauai, thanks to this beautiful home. It truly is amazing...completely stocked kitchen, big bedrooms with attached bathroom, decorated very nicely. The large lanai overlooks the ocean - you can watch the whales, see the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. We cooked most of our meals at the house, so really saved money on not eating out. There were 5 of us and we had plenty of room, but privacy if that was what we wanted.
The owners (Ed & Annette) were so easy to work with and so helpful. Although we had contact information for their property manager, we never felt the need to contact her.
We went to the Smith Family Luau - well worth the money and a must-see.
We highly recommend this home to anyone. You won't be disappointed.
We stayed at the Sunset Plantation House in Jan for 1 week. There was 3 couples celebrating our 50th anniversaries. With 3 kings and our own bathroom, we had plenty of room. The house was well maintained, clean and very nice. It had many more items that we did not use but others would such as large gas grill, beach toys and beach towels. Also we ate out all lunches and dinners so we didn't cook in the oven or cook top. The view is great we saw whales while sitting on the lanai and the sunsets were amazing. Close to Waimea canyon and the boat docks to go on a sunset cruise of the Napali coast. The Smith Family Luau and fern grotto boat trip was very nice also. Any return trip to Kauai will include a stay at your place Ed. Thanks for keeping this place open for rentals. Roy
We couldn't have been happier with the house. We stayed for 12 nights, had our 10 yr old, 2 yr old and Grandma. The downstairs worked perfect for my Mom. It was like her own apartment. It has a living room and table area and of course the bed and bath. Also has a door that shuts it off for privacy.
The house is just as described. The kitchen had everything we needed and more. The master bed was very comfortable. There were towels and beach toys we could use also, including a boogie board that my son never went without. The view is beautiful, looking out at the ocean.
If you want to be away from the crowds this is the place to be.
The only downfall was the location being pretty far from everything we wanted to do which was go to a beach that was baby friendly. The ones we like were in Poipu and that was a 40 min drive eachway. So we spent way too much time in the car but we knew going in it was remote.
But as far as the house it was terrific. I would recommend, and the owners were very easy to work with.
We just spent 1o days at this lovely home with our family. I would recommend this home to anyone traveling with family. It is so well laid out and so well taken care of. Yes, you hear traffic noise when you are out on the lanai, but the beautiful view and the peaceful ambiance quickly drown out the noise. The home has air conditioning so at night when you sleep, the sliders are closed and you never hear the traffic. Being on the west side, you have to commute to see a lot if the island but well worth the drive. The owners deliver everything they promise and more!
I rented this house for my husband and I and we invited two other couples to join us and we all could not have been happier. First off, let me say that the pictures and descriptions of Sunset Plantation House are very accurate. It is just as beautiful as it sounds and the busy highway does nothing to detract from that. We enjoyed watching the traffic go by and the fishermen along the ocean and the hustle and bustle of everyday life there. The owners were great for communicating and answering every query I had in timely fashion. Kekaha is a jewel and if we ever return to Kauai I wouldn't hesitate for a second to rent this house again. The sunny side of Kauai is definitely the place for us!
We rented this beautiful home between 3 couples and it was an awesome trip!!! It was nice to have our own space with each couple having their own private bedroom and bathroom. The living space was so nice and comfy, with beautiful views from the balcony for both sunrise and sunsets!!! It is a little remote from the resort areas, but that was one of the things we loved about it. We were able to BBQ or cook dinner at home and truly relax in the evening. I highly recommend this place for an entire family vacation!! Absolutely Beautiful home!!! All of the locals that we told we were staying in Kekaha all said oh you are on the hot side of the island..... Less rain, warmer weather and a beautiful beach about a hundred yards down the road!!! Awesome!!!!!!!
