The Howells and Storey have created a one of a kind lodging using an upscale, yet earthy, bohemian style, infusing the house with warmth and a real sense of the old Mississippi Delta. It’s the perfect accommodation for the traveler interested in the Blues and Delta culture and who is searching for that perfect combination of authentic Delta-sophistication, comfort, and attention to detail.
The house has a living area with a large HD flat screen television, full kitchen stocked with complimentary breakfast items, complete with a Keurig coffee maker, and a downstairs eating area. Upstairs guests will find two bedrooms (“The Green Acres” and “The Delta Princess” rooms) and a tiled and mirrored bath. Great attention to authenticity and detail has been paid to the décor and furnishings.
The carefully selected Benjamin Moore paint colors reflect the Delta’s green crops, deep golden light, and often ruby sunsets, with a touch of “the Blues” echoed by the blue gray trim throughout. The patterned cotton and linen fabrics surprise and coordinate, as do the eclectic and unusual lighting fixtures. Hung throughout the home is original artwork from Delta artists, including Randall Andrews, Stan Street, the acclaimed Marshall Bouldin, various European artists as well as images by Delta photographers Eric Stone and Sarah Beaugez.
Most of the home’s furnishings are vintage with original pine floors and a breakfast table built by musician Johnny Bertram. Guests have a side patio, access to the Howell’s private outdoor bar and patio, and a large fenced backyard completes the funky lighted “Bohemian Pond and Garden” with picnic area and grill.
The Delta Bohemian Guest House is available for short-term rental year round, in addition to availability during all Clarksdale and area Blues festivals. It is an ideal respite for couples, groups of friends, small families, business travelers, and Deltans returning home for the holidays.
Poor William (Billy Howell) and Magical Madge (Madge Marley Howell) own the Delta Bohemian Guest House. We are the publishers of the Delta Bohemian and operators of the DB Guest House and the Delta Bohemian Gift Shop.
We enjoy welcoming people from all over the world to our fair city. We especially like inviting them into our Guest House which share a private, bricked-in back yard. We like to make new friends and we especially enjoy welcoming people back!
