Willow Lodge is a cozy three bedroom ranch style cottage located on one acre of land nestled by the edge of the woods on a working farm, Primrose Dale. While the farm itself along with activities related to running of the farm are not part of the rental, the rural and rustic ambience of Willow Lodge gives guests a taste of country living!

Books, board games, playing cards, campfires, and wildlife sightings are the main forms of entertainment at Willow Lodge. A small working fireplace in the living room, available for use October through March, provides guests with a rustic, cozy atmosphere while taking the chill out of a cool autumn evening or cold winter's night. A picnic table and charcoal grill (charcoal not provided) is available behind the house with a beautiful view of the farm and picturesque South Mountains. Next to the picnic table is a inviting fire pit where guests may relax while enjoying an evening beverage, pleasant conversation or some quiet time....an especially welcoming feature after a long day of sightseeing or other area activities! Guests must supply their own firewood for the outdoor fire pit as well as the indoor fireplace as it is not included in the rental cost nor is it available in or around the property. Local grocery stores typically have small bundles of campfire wood available for purchase.

Willow Lodge is fully furnished and has three bedrooms with four beds, two double and two single that sleeps up to the maximum occupancy of six (6) people. The cottage has two full baths with linens, dining area and country kitchen with stove, oven, refrigerator, microwave, small crock pot, toaster, coffee maker, and all pots, pans, utensils and dishes needed to provide for all of your dining needs. A full size washer and dryer is also included right off the main dining area. Truly a place to "get away from it all", there is no television or WIFI available. However, access to the internet or your e-mail can be done easily with a smartphone utilizing 5G.

A great location to call your "home base" while exploring all that the area has to offer, Willow Lodge is conveniently located only 11 miles from historic Gettysburg and the National Military Park, 45 miles from the well known "Chocolate Capital of the World" Hershey, Pa including the family fun "Hershey Park", Lancaster's Amish Country 70 miles, Ski Liberty and Ski Roundtop, 23 miles and 20 miles respectively. Country living at it's best can be found at Willow Lodge, providing you with an environment that will enable you to disconnect from technology and encourage you to re-connect once again with your family and friends as well as with nature itself!

Third Tome
We need a place to stay when coming to PA to visit family. It needs to be a place where we can all stay and hang out. This place serves the purpose.

Trip down memory lane
First time back to Gettysburg in 23 years. Grandparents used to take my siblings and I when we were kids. This trip I was able to take my 86 year old grandfather and mother. The Willow Lodge was great! Cozy camp feeling that made us feel right at home!

Peaceful getaway
My friends and I get together for an annual girls' trip. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage, which is surrounded by the beauty of nature. We were close enough to the action in Gettysburg, but far enough removed in our own secluded, peaceful location to really feel relaxed and refreshed after our weekend. Highly recommend!

About the host

Hosted by Larry and Wendy Shrader

Host profile image
Lawrence and Wendy Shrader are the owners of Willow Lodge and Primrose Dale Farm. It is a working farm that produces corn, soybeans and grass hay.

Lawrence was born and raised in nearby Littlestown and Wendy in Gettysburg so they are each are native to Adams County. They also share a family background in farming.

Why they chose this property

In 2006 Lawrence and Wendy began searching for the farm of their dreams...one that was not too far off the beaten path but far enough to provide the tranquility and pastoral setting they were looking for. Their search ended in 2010 when a 52 acre farm with two houses went on the auction block. Lawrence and Wendy moved quickly and with one swift sound of a gavel, Primrose Dale was born.

By offering Willow Lodge as a guest cottage, they hope to share with others the peace and tranquil beauty they found here in Upper Adams County.

What makes this property unique

Sitting back off the main road, the private gravel lane leads up through the woods to a guest cottage. An abundance of wildlife can be spotted from Willow Lodge. It is not a rare occurrence to see a buck or a doe with her fawn grazing at the edge of the woods. The sound of a woodpecker, the gentle cooing of a dove or an occasional 'hoot' of an owl is typical. The quiet beauty and the privacy of the location is unsurpassed….a serene place to rest, relax and renew.
