Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday villa in Polis & Latchi Area - Villa Gladiolous

Near Latchi, 3 bedrooms, sleeps 6, full air conditioning, quality furnishings

Set in secluded landscaped gardens just 300m from the beach with stunning sea views and only a 5 minute drive to local shops and restaurants, this luxury villa is fully air-conditioned, with free Wifi and accomodates up to 6 people. The property is set out on two floors with a spacious open plan kitchen/dining/lounge area and modern furniture and fittings. The mature, landscaped gardens offer both shady and sunny terraces and a large entertainment patio with dining table and chairs and comfortable sofa seating overlooks the pool. The 9m x4m pool is surrounded by a large, sun terrace, with sun loungers, umbrellas etc. providing ample space to dine, relax and swim in comfort. A large built in BBQ with stone sink provides opportunities to experiment with grilling local fish and produce if you want a break from eating out at the nearby Latchi tavernas. A private, double bedroom with adjoining shower room leads separately out to the pool. Upstairs, the master bedroom with 4 poster double bed opens onto a private balcony with stunning sea views and another sun terrace with gazebo. Bedroom 3 has twin beds and views across to the Troodos mountains. The property is a 45 minute drive from Paphos International Airport.

Only 50 minutes drive from Paphos airport, but a world away from the rat-race of the busy resorts, the villa's location in the Akamas region affords beautiful weather which is pleasant off-season and not as oppressively hot as the south coast in high summer.

The villa is situated just 300 metres from Asprokremos beach, widely recognised as the best on Cyprus. To get to the beach you walk along a pathway/track which takes you straight down to the beach (5 minutes) or slightly longer, but a pleasant evening stroll, through the fields towards the Anassa Hotel (10 mins).

The Akamas National Park is immediately behind the villa and offers a diverse selection of wildlife, migratory birds and flora. A comprehensive network of established walking trails criss-cross the Akamas peninsula. There are routes to suit every level of fitness: from a gentle stroll through spectacular scenery to the Baths of Aphrodite nearby; to hard-core trekking in challenging mountain terrain. The Akamas peninsula is southern Cyprus's least developed & best-kept secret. A region of natural beauty, deserted coves housing turtle sanctuaries, crystal-clear waters, picturesque fishing villages with excellent seafood restaurants and thickly wooded hillsides rising majestically above the rugged coastline.

Within a five minute drive of the villa is picturesque Latchi, with its pretty harbour and new marina. You can take a leisurely stroll to watch the many fishing boats followed by a relaxing waterfront lunch or traditional meze dinner at one of the many small seafood restaurants and tavernas offering the best fresh sea food in Cyprus. Latchi has several operators offering all things nautical, including small motor boat hire, scuba diving etc. A variety of water sports are available throughout the summer season. Trips are available from Latchi harbour. These go up the coast past the villa to the blue lagoon and are a nice way of seeing the coast and doing a bit of swimming/snorkeling. A traditional boat stays out longer and provides a barbecue on board. From the harbour you can also hire a small boat to explore the isolated coves along the bay, hire scuba diving equipment, paraglide, etc.

The elegant 5-star Anassa Hotel is within walking distance of the villa; it has a range of world-class restaurants offering some of the best food and wine on Cyprus together with a world class spa complex helping to make the Anassa one of the 20 top mediterranean hotels according to a recent Times readers' survey. Or why not just stroll along to sip a cocktail on the terrace before returning for a meal at the villa with a view of the identical beach!

The charming, historic town of Polis is about 10 minutes drive and here you will find a wide choice of bars & restaurants for coffee, lunch or dinner. Or just enjoy a leisurely day by the pool starting with breakfast on the garden patio which is shaded by a large gazebo and is surrounded by a herb area and flowering shrubs. Then take a stroll on the nearby beach which is often deserted out of season followed by a barbecue lunch or dinner back at the villa.

A free, Privilege Card is provided to all guests; the card offers a number of special benefits and discounts that guests will enjoy during their holiday stay. Details of current offers will be provided on arrival. All the local companies participating in the Privilege Programme have been sourced by our local agents “In Safe Hands” to provide a tried and tested offering to our guests. Based on their extensive local knowledge plus feedback and experience of other guests, the Card enables guests to make the most of their stay and to get the best possible value for their money. In most cases the card will need to be produced to benefit from any particular offer.

For example, Ayii Anargyri, which is within 15 minutes’ drive from the villa, offers our guests a 15% discount on all of their Spa Treatments. Latchi Watersports offer our guests a 20% discount on all diving, scuba diving lessons, parasailing, sailing, windsurfing, waterskiing, jet ski & banana boat ride. Several local tavernas & restaurants also offer our Privilege Card guests a discounts; one example is the ever popular Moustakallis Restaurant in Polis where the consistency of the food and service is noteworthy and the welcoming by Andreas and his team is exceptional – nothing is too much trouble. There is a varied menu to suit all ages and all tastes, the music is traditional and very much adds to the ambience of this excellent establishment. Guests receive a 10% discount on their food and a complementary after-dinner drink when dining at the restaurant.

Sue and I are both retired and enjoy visiting our holiday home in Cyprus where we love the surrounding countryside and beautiful year-round sunshine. We first visited the Akamas region 6 years ago on a day trip from Paphos and were struck by the beautiful scenery and coastline which reminded us of some parts of Greece and Italy. The villa is our own holiday home and we have fitted it out to a high standard with all the things you would expect in a 'home from home'.

The Akamas is widely recognised as one of the most attractive and least spoilt parts of Cyprus;

About Peter Emms

Sue and I are both retired and enjoy visiting our holiday home in Cyprus where we love the surrounding countryside and enjoy the beautiful year-round sunshine. We enjoy the walks along the spectacular coastline and into the hills and surrounding villages. As we both enjoy wildlife we love to see the wild flowers in Spring and to watch the swallows arrive and young start to fly and then swoop down to drink in the pool. Later in the year we enjoy seeing the colourful Bea-eaters circling high overhead.

Peter Emms purchased this villa in 2006

Why Peter Emms chose Polis & Latchi Area

We first visited the Akamas region on a day trip from Paphos and were struck by the beautiful scenery and coastline which reminded us of some parts of Greece and Italy. the north-west corner of the island has truly outstanding scenery, equal to any island in the Mediterranean, which still remains almost untouched. The Akamas peninsula, is the last remaining pristine coastline in Cyprus. It’s a unique area; home to 600 native species which is likely soon to be designated a national park. The villa itself is situated right at the edge of the Akamas but close to the small town of Polis and the neighbouring fishing village of Latchi where you will find all modern amenities. If you like your holiday resorts quiet, authentic and not swamped by modern tourism, this is the area for you, especially if you visit in spring or autumn, when visitors are fewer and the ‘weather bonus’ compared with the UK is at its greatest. In March or April, when the weather back home can still be grey, damp and cold, our guests usually have warm sunshine and light breezes.the villa enjoys spectacular views straight out to sea and overlooks the pristine Asprokremos beach with crystal clear waters; the same beach and views as those enjoyed by guests at the nearby luxury Anassa hotel.

The views from high up on the peninsula meediately behind the villa itself are spectacular; the sweeping aerial view to Cape Arnaoutis at the end of the peninsula are amazing. In spring the limestone rock is sprinkled with thousands of rock cyclamens and other flowers. And if you’re a keen walker, the five mile Aphrodite Trail walk (which starts a few hundred metres from the villa) is a must. The views are unequalled anywhere on the island and if you don’t fancy the steep climb, you can walk along the Akamas coast from the Aphrodite Baths on a wide accessible track providing easy walking; or hire a bike and go explore http://m.guardian.co.uk/travel/2013/apr/12/cyprus-cycling-holiday-akamas-peninsula

What makes this villa unique

The property has been our holiday home since we bought it from new, seven years ago. We have fitted it out to a high standard and keep it updated and in a good state of repair and decoration. A consistent theme in feedback from guests is that the villa is better equipped than they expected with lots of space and plenty of options for finding a quiet spot. We love its proximity to the beach where we often take a stroll before dinner or for an early morning dip. We love sitting on the upstairs terrace which enjoys fantastic views of the sea straight in front of the villa. At night, we enjoy just chilling on the large sofas sipping a glass of chilled wine and listening to the cicadas. The garden has been a joy to watch develop and we enjoy sitting in the shade and watching the insects visiting the many colourful flowers and the lizards climbing the stone walls. This part of Cyprus can be less oppressive in the summer months than other parts of the south and enjoys gentle sea breezes at most times. Hiring a boat is very simple and many water sports are readily available. Outside of August, we often have the 2km beach - which is immediately below the villa and said by many to be the best on Cyprus - totally to ourselves. According to Giles Coren, writing in The Times on September 12th 2012 about his stay at the Anassa Hotel, just a few hundred metres along the beach from the villa 'And what a bay. What a beach. I have never been anywhere in the world so top end and modern where the views were over empty sea, virgin beach and barely developed hills (which are protected so won't get spoiled)' That's some accolade! And we agree wholeheartedly!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a thoroughly enjoyable time; Latchi is a great location and the Villa exceeded our expectations. We could find nothing to concern us at all. Everyone had plenty of space; it was kitted out extremely well and was in a great location. It was our first visit to Cyprus and we had such a good time that we may possibly go back again next year. If we do, Gladiolous 2 will be at the top of of our list! Best regards and thanks Chris & Michele Thurgill

Nice villa with great location close to the beach

  • 4 out of 5
Plus: Very nice villa with pool and nice garden. It is located very closely to the beach. Large enough to hold a family with max 3 kids. Polis and Latchi are reachable by car within 10 rspct 5 minutes. Welcome package on the day we arrived. Good service.
Minus: We had some ants in the kitchen - ok not a big deal. Pool was very cold, but this was due to the late season. We had to ask for the plumber because the toilet was not working.

Owner's Response: Ants can be a nuisance in Cyprus, especially in hot weather, so we recommend to all our guests that they cover all food and ensure any crumbs and food debris are quickly cleared up. The pool is not heated and, depending on the weather, temperatures start to fall in late autumn. However the sea usually remains warm right through until December with temperatures remaining in the early twenties and rarely falling below 18 or 19 even in winter. Sorry you had problems with the loo but as we make clear to all our guests, toilet paper must not be flushed down the toilets as there is no mains sewerage in Cyprus.

A perfect holiday at a perfect location

  • 5 out of 5
We had a great holiday at the villa. It was well equipped, nothing was missing. The villa is clean and aesthetic , the view beautiful. At a walking distance ( even our 2 year old could walk it) a perfect beach. At a short driving distance great tavernas and we got good recommendations from the nice local villa management staff. As the sign at the beach said: "what happens in paradise stays in paradise"

Owner's Response: It is now even easier to get to the beach via the gardens and steps of the newly reopened beach bar just a couple of minutes walk from the villa.

Just as good second time round!

  • 4 out of 5
Our second visit to the villa, and it just reaffirmed everything we loved about it first time round. The location is rugged but beautiful, the area of Latchi abound with things to do and some lovely restaurants; all making this a great holiday spot and we will return one day. Thank you to Peter and his wife and a special mention to Andrea and Paul who manage the villa. peter and susie kennedy

Peaceful, Beautiful, short walk to pebble beach

  • 5 out of 5
Do not be deceived by the apparent distance to the sea - it is actually only a 5 minute walk down some nice stairs, to the perfect pebble beach, right next to Aphrodite Beach Hotel! The villa is lovely, clean and well appointed. The location is truly gorgeous, peaceful and relaxing. The kitchen was well stocked with all the necessities.

The British management company are very kind - they even left us a welcome package, including milk, water, and a lemon pound cake! I would advise renters to keep the kitchen very clean to discourage the ants (they seem to find even the smallest crumb).

The furnishings are very homey and inviting (not the usual holiday villa Spartan style metal and glass). The WiFi worked well. The TV has very few channels, but if you're watching TV instead of enjoying the sea, I'm not sure what to tell you...

We would surely stay here again in the future.

A Fantastic Holiday Villa

  • 5 out of 5
This is an excellent villa which is better than what the photos and description show. My family and I have had an excellent 2 weeks enjoying the villa, the local towns and countryside and the beach.

The villa is well presented and stocked with everything you need for a stay.

The management company are very professional and give good advice on where to eat locally.

Superb villa with a fabulous view.

  • 5 out of 5
The villa was beautifully clean with everything you could possible need. The view from the villa upstairs and from the pool area was stunning. You can even see the sea while sitting on the sofa in the lounge. There is a lovely walk down to the very quiet beach and the sea was safe and clean to swim in. The garden area surrounding the villa had an abundance of flowering plants with lovely scents in the evening. Most evenings we were visited by a flock of beautiful bee eaters swooping over the pool.
Andrea from the managing company was very friendly and helpful when she visited us during our first few days in the villa. She gave us some useful information on activities in the area and places to eat. Our favourite was Moustakallis taverna which had great food and fantastic hosts.
We would recommend this villa and the local area which appears to be developing tastefully.

Owner's Response: The bird life in the Akamas is abundant and the colourful bee eaters are regular visitors. We love to watch and listen to them when they visit.

Only 50 minutes’ drive from Paphos airport, but a world away from the rat-race of the busy resorts, this modern, luxurious villa is peaceful yet very accessible. Set in its own secluded, landscaped gardens below the Akamas hills with stunning views across Chrysochous Bay, it is just 5 minutes’ drive from Latchi marina with its promenade of fish tavernas. The ancient town of Polis with its popular pedestrianised square filled with shops, cafes, bars and restaurants is just 10 minutes away. The villa is situated just 300 metres (less than 5 minutes’ walk) from an unspoilt beach with beautiful clear water, widely recognised as the best on Cyprus. See: http://traveldk.com/cyprus/southwest-cyprus/topten/hideaway-beaches

Asprokremos beach is one of the least crowded on Cyprus, and you can gaze out over the sparkling, calm waters or watch splendid sunsets over Cape Amaoutis and its offshore islets.

It's location is ideal for an early morning swim before breakfast (the sea remains warm until November) and the beach is one of the few remaining breeding places of the 'Caretta Caretta' protected sea turtle. The exclusive, world class Anassa Hotel, with its luxury facilities is a 5 minute stroll along the beach in one direction and a traditional beach taverna is the same distance in the other direction. The Akamas National Park is immediately behind the villa; backed by a rugged spine of hills, covered with pine and juniper trees. Along its shores are southern Cyprus’s only empty beaches, and from the trails in the hills are some of the finest coastal views in Cyprus. There’s excellent snorkelling off its rocky shores. It also offers a diverse selection of wildlife, migratory birds and flora. In the spring the rocks are covered in wild cyclamen and other alpine flowers. Nearby are the famous Baths of Aphrodite, the goddess’s mythical bathing pool. Around the spring feeding the pool radiates a network of walking trails including the Fontana Amorosa, a 6-km (4-mile) which winds along rocky slopes by the edge of the sea, overlooked by pine-covered slopes with many perfect opportunities for a cooling plunge in the sea. Scattered in the hills behind the villa are many interesting old villages to explore such as Drouseia, one of the region’s prettiest villages, with graceful old stone houses standing above steep lanes overlooked by the limestone crags of Agios Georgios. The Akamas is widely recognised as one of the most attractive and least spoilt parts of Cyprus. See:

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/travel/4886032/cyprus-akamas-review.html

If you’re looking for a place to escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life, enjoy swimming, sailing, fishing and diving in turquoise lagoons and sheltered coves or simply relaxing by your own private pool or on the beach below, this villa is probably just right for you.
