Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday apartment in Gourdon - Heron House

One double and another twin bedroom, living room, dining kitchen, bath/showeroom

Heron House is a beautiful apartment overlooking the sea in a quaint fishing village called Gourdon. The views from every window are mesmerising and constantly changing due to the unpredictable Scottish weather!

The apartment is on 2 floors. On the first floor the entrance porch has plenty room for boots and coats. This opens in to the hallway, which gives access to a large sitting room that has an open fire, 2 comfy settees and various pieces of occasional furniture. There is a TV and DVD player and a selection of dvd’s, books and games for your enjoyment. We also have wi-fi.

The spacious kitchen/diner is also on the first floor. It is very well equipped with modern solid oak units, washing machine, dish-washer, fridge freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle and a table with 4 chairs situated in the window. You can often see herons out on the rocks as you gaze out of the window towards the harbour and sometimes dolphins. Gourdon is one of the few working fishing harbours in the north east and it is indeed a pleasure to watch the boats come and go and watch the fisherman unload their catch.

The bathroom is fitted with a 3 piece suite and a mira shower and is very spacious.

On the second floor there are 2 bedrooms. 1 has twin beds and the other has a double bed. Both rooms have fitted wardrobes and stunning views towards the sea and also views towards the back.

Outside there is an enclosed courtyard with a bench seat with a sun umbrella . There is also a raised decking area where you can enjoy a nice glass of wine and the wildlife whilst watching the sunset.

Linen, towels, electricity, coal and wi-fi are all provided as are essentials such as washing up liquid, toilet paper, kitchen rolls etc.

A well-behaved dog is welcome as long as it is not left unattended in the apartment.

Gourdon is an excellent place for walks/bike rides. There is a coastal path, that used to be a railway that stretches from Gourdon north to Inverbervie and south to Johnshaven and St Cyrus.

Gourdon has a first class award winning fish and chip shop and restaurant, “Hornblowers”, which our guests always visit as it is amazing. There is also an excellent pub down at the harbour “The Harbour Bar” with seating outside for sunny times. The shop is very handy and is open till 7pm . Inverbervie is only 1 mile away and has a supermarket, chemist, butcher, baker, post office and a few pubs and hotels.

Gourdon is a wonderful place and all of our guests have loved coming to stay at Heron House. We maintain and clean the property ourselves and try to meet all our guests on their arrival. We have had many guests returning year after year and hope that each year is better than the last.

The entry time is 14.00 and departure is 10.00. The week runs from Saturday to Saturday during peak time. We offer short breaks (min 3 nights) off peak.

Ideal retreat from the rat race

  • 5 of 5

The owners couldn't have been more welcoming and accomodating for my extra needs. Well worth inquiring first. (It was 100 better than a caravan we'd contemplated. They left their number which could be rung 24/7 if we had any problems, but we didn't.

The accomodation had everything anyone could want; including sky, internet access, a dish washer and a real fire. It was spacious, clean and tidy. The patio area would have been used if the weather was better. The photo doesn't do it justice.

I would recommend this property to everyone. They will not be disappointed. The sea views were wonderful to the front and many birds flew around at the back, including a buzzard.

The fish and chip shop sold the best cooked fishand batter I've ever tasted - well worth £5.95.

My husband did a walk straight from the property which he enjoyed, taking in more sea views.

The only down side is the 10 or 12 steps up to the property. People with babies and prams could struggle a bit. Our dog struggled due to blindness but we managed and it was worth carrying her up and down in the dak!. A small price to pay and it shouldn't put anyone off going.

A writers paradise.........if the sea wasn't so mesmerising.

Thanks again. It was ideal. I DID NOT want to leave. We may well be back. This is an example of where expectations were lower than reality. A credit to the owners.

Great escape hide away!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the house and the views were mesmerising; I really missed the sea view when I got home. The house is very well kitted out and family friendly. Only downside is there is no garden if you have younger children, but there are good walks nearby for children to play and explore; collecting shells from the rocky beaches. Lots to do in the nearby towns too, only a short drive or bus ride away. Food and drink locally is great: gluten free fish and chips from Hornblowers in Gourdon and the ice-cream from Aunty Betty's in Stonehaven is amazing! We would love to visit again someday.

We had nice days in this wonderful house. We immediately felt at home. The house is very comfortable und well equiped, especially the kitchen. Out of the windows of every room you have a nice view over the litle harbour and the sea.

Heron House, Gourdon

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cottage, looks even better than on internet photos. Beautiful setting, really helpful owners and made us feel really welcome. Perfect for those looking for somewhere away from it all yet easy to get to other nearby towns and attractions. Reasonably child friendly - just need to keep your eye on toddlers due to stairs etc.

My stay at Heron House

  • 5 of 5

I just can say it has been perfect. The house is furnished whit all you can need and very clean. Marie Claire the owner, was really pleasant and she facilitated all the necesary to have a nice stay. Gourdon is a small village, is not a tourist place and it´s very quiet, so you can really know autentic people, just what I like when I travel, as well is a perfect place from where to visit the wonderful Scotisch East Coast.

Inverbervie

Gourdon is one of the few natural harbours along this stretch of east-facing Aberdeenshire coast.Gourdon's chief attraction for visitors is its strong sense of being a working fishing port.St Cyrus (5 miles south) is a pretty village that has a large nature reserve down near the white sandy beach.

Johnshaven (3 miles south) is a little fishing village. It has a sports centre, a shop and 2 pubs.

Inverbervie (1 mile north) has a selection of shops and good places to eat. The coastal path starts at Inverbervie and continues to St.Cyrus and is well worth a trek.

Stonehaven(10 miles away) has a lovely town square. There is a beautiful harbour with a variety of good restaurants to choose from. The Open Air swimming pool is a must in the summer. Dunnoter Castle sits to the south of the town and is worth a visit. Crawton, (about 7 miles), is a bird sanctuary and a popular place for artists. Aberdeen (24 miles) is a great city for shopping and has lots for kids to do, as well as adults.
