Why Property Owner chose Oxford

I bought this building in 2004, for Saint Johns College who had owned it for hundreds of years. It needed some love & care, and I completely re-modelled the apartment in 2010, bringing it up to date and making it into a lovely residence.

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is in a unique location, next to the Twelfth Century Saint Giles Church. The rear windows therefore look up to the church tower. The end windows look down Saint Giles, over the chuchyard and towards the historic centre.

We stayed in this lovely, quirky old building (all but attached to the St. Giles Church bell tower) for 2 weeks and loved every minute of it. Bridget, our landlady, is welcoming & lovely. There were 3-4 of us at any given time, including for a week my 83 year old mother who managed the stairs fine, followed by our 21 year old son on break from his term, & we are mid 60's. So we can readily vouch for it being a great place for all ages except the very young or the disabled IF stairs are not an issue. The flat has 2 very comfortable bedrooms with plenty of storage, a great tub & shower (great view of the bell tower from the bathtub!), & a well equipped kitchen with lots of space. The living room is very comfy & if you need it (we didn't) tv & dvd. We did need wi-fi, & that was great. There are a lot of very helpful travel books & Oxford information on the shelf in the kitchen - much appreciated! The place is full of light & has wonderful views over busy Woodstock Road & the St. Giles cemetery, green & full of trees & flowers. In the early morning, with a cup of tea, wonderful to sit & watch the road & shops & people waking up. In the later evening, equally wonderful to sit with a glass of wine & people-watch with everything lit up. Within 5 minutes you can walk to 3 great pubs - The Eagle & Child, The Lamb & Flag, & The Royal Oak. The L & F does not offer food, but the other 2 have great pub grub. There's a good restaurant directly across the road. In the same 5 minutes you can walk down Little Clarendon Street for other cool eateries as well as a wine & beer shop, & the immediate neighborhood on Woodstock Road has a great selection of delis, bakeries, convenience stores, & a post office. In the other direction, 5 minutes down Keble Rd brings you to the incredible University Parks, where you can ether sit on a bench in the sun & smell the flowers, or walk for literally miles. A pop-up map is helpful! You can get anywhere else in town - sight seeing, shopping, eating out, groceries, bus station - within 15 minutes' walk. A little longer to train station & (should you need it) car rental. Or one stop on the #6 bus on Banbury Rd gets you into the center of things. Yes, there is noise in this location, but surprisingly little, & quite tolerable. The St. Giles bells are insistent on Sundays & Thursdays, but I feel this only added to the historical color of the area! We hated to leave, & would be very happy to stay here again.

Outstanding flat for our family of 5! Very clean and spacious! Perfect location with all the amenities. We would absolutely stay here again! This is an upstairs flat so families with very young children or those with disabilities may want to discuss this with the property manager before booking

Location, location, location

The renting experience: Bridget could not be more helpful and welcoming. Thoughtful of small details and patient with this renter's errors.

The apartment: two very large bedrooms. One has a rather low ceiling with beams; daily reminders of one's height. Large living room; very large eat-in kitchen. The kitchen and living room windows overlook the graveyard and Woodstock Road. Due to glazing, noise is not a problem. In fact, by late evening, the traffic abates and the mosquito-impervious could leave windows open.

Two bathrooms. Upstairs one may lie in the tub and look at the tower of St Giles. Downstairs is shower only, with excellent pressure and temperature control.

Location: easy walking distance to the High Street, George Street, the colleges. The flat is just across the road from Little Clarendon Street, which holds Cafe Rouge, Pierre Victoire, Oddbins (wine store). At the corner is Taylor's, a pair of shops divided by the street, a coffee shop cum boutique deli. Next door is Brown's, a perfect restaurant for a languorous lunch and too much wine. (My own favorite is Cafe Rouge, up Little Clarendon, where the food is good, the service very good, and the garden in back excellent for a postprandial cigar (outside of busy hours, of course. I may have bad habits, but I am quite courteous).

In short (too late, I know), highly recommended. No parking nearby, though it can be arranged a few blocks away. If you're in for the city, no car needed. In fact, unless you're taking longer day trips, the local bus services are excellent and good value.

I am loath to write good reviews for places to which I intend to return. But fair is fair, and I must give Bridget her due.

Great Family Vacation

My family and I stayed here over the winter holidays and we found the place to be absolutely amazing! It was so clean and updated, the kitchen was the perfect size and was very well maintained.The Bathrooms were al new and so pretty. My sister and I shared the room with the two beds and my parents of course took the "master bedroom" we all really loved our stay there.

The location really couldn't be any better. Only a 7 min walk into the main shopping district and with delicious little cafes directly across the street. Even though its so close to the downtown core of Oxford it was very quiet and peaceful!

Over all we would definitely and have recommended it to people. We all had a marvellous time and have nothing but good things to say about it!
