Three bedrooms, two full baths, fully equipped kitchen, backyard patio in walking distance from everything. Kid friendly!
When our family goes on our own adventures, we scrub down our house, store our most prized possessions and rent out our living space. A property manager takes care of the house and helps to make sure guests are comfortable. Her phone number will be left for guests in the house.
48 Deering Street House set up The front door of the house has an electronic lock on it for easy entry. We ask that guests please keep the front door locked at all times.
Our house has two other rental units in it. Renters of our living space share a front door, entry hall and a powder room with the other guests in our house.
BEDROOMS There is one bedroom on the 2nd floor for your use with a queen size bed. The other two bedrooms are on the third floor: one with a queen size bed and one with double size futon. All bedrooms have air conditioners during summer months.
LINENS Clean sheets will be put on all of the beds and clean towels will be left for you. If you need extra linens, please let us know or ask our property manager.
INTERNET ACCESS There is also wireless access in the house if you brought your own laptop.
KITCHEN You are welcome to use anything you see in the kitchen and pantry. Please don’t feel shy! There is no reason for you to invest in things like olive oil and spices when the kitchen is filled with these items!
We have a few “rules” about the care of pots and knives, but you are welcome to use anything you find in the kitchen
BATHROOMS 2nd floor: Full bath at the end of the hall. An ADA approved hand rail is mounted on the wall along the long side of the tub. As the tub can be slippery and the tub is quite deep, we recommend holding on as you get out!
Washer & Dryer: A High Efficiency front loading washer and a dryer are available for renter use in the 2nd floor bathroom. Detergent is provided.
3rd floor: Another full bath off of master bedroom.
TV ROOM A flat screen tv, dvd player, Wii, Apple TV are all available for guest use in our TV room.
DINING ROOM A dining table big enough for 6 people is available in the dining room. A larger breakfast nook off the kitchen is also available and can seat if you squeeze in.
DECK AND GAS GRILL Our deck has a space with patio furniture under a screened gazebo and a nice size outdoor dining table. A small play house and waterproof toys are ready for kids and their imaginations to enjoy. A new gas grill is also at your disposal.
Bikes: You are welcome to put your bikes in the back yard and on the deck. If you did not bring a bike, you can easily rent one around the corner at Gorham Bike and Ski.
Driveway: We do have space for parking in our driveway available on a first come first served basis. Guests who park in the driveway are required to leave their key in a bowl in the front hall so anyone parked in the driveway can move cars as needed. There may be other guests whose cars will need to be moved. Please understand that others may have to pull your car out of the driveway. During winter months, there may be snow bans when no cars are allowed to park on the street from 10pm until 7am. In this case, guests are still welcome to use the driveway. Please be aware that a plough will have cleared the road of snow over night and in the process, deposited a large wall of a heavy mixture of ice, snow and sand at the end of the driveway. We cannot guarantee when that will be removed. If you need to leave early, you should find an alternative place to park. A few of the paid parking structures in town charge only $10 overnight on snow ban nights. (Though not the one closest to us, unfortunately.)
Street Parking: If that does not work for you, you can park on the street from 5pm until 10 am on weekdays if you can find a spot. There are no restrictions on weekends. You can also park any time on Mellen street. Please make sure you “park smart,” minding the gap between you and the next car or curb so that there will be plenty of parking for everyone!
Parking Garages: There are several city run parking structures as well as privately run garages. The closest garage is at the end of Deering Street, on High Street adjacent the Westin.

We came to Portland on vacation from Washington, DC and never left. We immediately fell in love with the neighborhood and rented until we found the right house to buy to be in this location. We are close to everything downtown offers, but our street is tree-lined and neighborly.
Our house is walking distance to Portland's Arts District and Old Port. There are several parks nearby, including Deering Oaks, which hosts an amazing farmer's market, summer concert series, festivals, a wading pool and playground for small kids and sports facilities as well as winter ice skating. Portland boasts an amazing food and beer scene. Portland is a great base for a Maine vacation. Within 5 miles you will find beautiful, clean small beaches. A 20 mile drive (or train ride) will get you to the famous 'Old Orchard Beach' with a board walk and large sandy beach. Easy drives to large and small lakes and beautiful hikes. Twenty miles to Freeport outlet shopping and less than 1 hour to Kittery outlets.
