I have worked in Canada's Northwest Territories for 40 years and have volunteered one month per year at St Jude Hospital near Vieux Fort, St Lucia for more than 30 years.
Jim Tennant purchased this villa in 2012
Last year we decided to buy the house in Laborie, our favorite village on the island. Laborie is not a tourist village but has local stores and restaurants. We will be spending at least 3 months of the year enjoying the climate and the people on this beautiful island in the Caribbean.
We love the garden and the panoramic views of the Caribbean. Saint Vincent is directly south and usually visible unless the weather gets hazy. There is always a breeze which keeps the temperature comfortable. The house is open and airy with large sliding glass doors onto the large patio.
Just across the road there is a path down to a beach, water is warm and we swim there.
There is lots to do within a short and scenic drive including wind and kite surfing, snorkeling/ diving, zip lining.
We arrived from the UK and spent 3 weeks at Sapphire house exploring the island. The accomodation and gardens exceeded all expectations, and the sea views from the deck were great. The manual in the house was really useful and we tried most of the reccomended places to eat/bars/and activities.George Lee the manager was really helpful and available for any queries. We will be back again next year.
I have been to Sapphire House on three trips. Each one better than the last. The 180 degree panoramic view from the two decks are unparalleled with breathtaking views of Laborie and St Vincent. Laborie is a cute friendly fishing village with a beautiful beach that looks like it should be on a post card. The owner and manager George Lee St Jour are the epitome of the gracious hosts and were invaluable in recommending island attractions and facilitating a car rental (strongly recommended to get the most from the island). This part of the island provides a much more genuine island experience than the "plasticized" over touristed north around Castries and Sapphire House is the perfect choice.
We stayed in this house over Christmas this year. The view is amazing and the property is very beautiful. The best part of this experience was the house manager, George Lee. He was like our guardian angel and looked after our every need. He was so attentive and kind, I believe we will be friends forever now. Being American, we were not accustomed to how to use many of the appliances and electrical devices, but we learned over time. There is nothing fancy in this house, including a coffer maker (although there was a manual percolator that we figured out how to use). But again, it is relatively inexpensive so this is to be expected. This house is located in a small village called Laborie. It is not a tourist spot, and in fact, we never saw any other tourists there other than ourselves. If you are the type of traveler that is adventuresome, this is a very good value. If you are one of those people that wants to relax and do nothing on vacation, this is not for you. The location is remote (on the far south end of the island) and you really can't go anywhere without a car. And driving in St. Lucia is quite challenging! We ended up using locals who George Lee arranged, who agreed to drive us around for a fee. This house isn't for everyone, but for the adventurous traveler, it was fantastic!
We stayed at this jewel of a property for 2 weeks in February 2014. Sapphire House has all the amenities you could want and is exactly as described and pictured. We spent much of our time on the deck/patio enjoying the sun and tropical breezes. The 180 degree view of the Caribbean never got old. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. You do need a car if you want to explore beyond the village of Laborie. There is a nice bakery (Zeb's Creole) within walking distance of the house. There are also many small restaurants in Laborie including our favourite, Africa House. There are many wonderful beaches including one across the road just down from the house. Our favourite was in Vieux Fort (Sandy Beach). It had a couple of bars with good food and wifi in case the ocean and beach aren't entertaining enough! We had a thoroughly relaxing time at Sapphire House and will definitely return.
Spent a week in the villa before Christmas and I was very pleased. The villa is in very good condition and is exactly as described on the website. The pictures displayed are exactly what we got with nice view over the bay and the beach is a short 2 min walk.
Adding to the pluses of this charming villa, the surrounding garden are stocked with flowers and coconuts / papayas. My preferred place in the house is the patio which is perfect for al-fresco dining!
The villa was clean. The kitchen is well appointed with everything we could ask for. The bedrooms are large and more generally the villa is very spacious with plenty of air and large windows overlooking the bay.
There is a booklet describing all the nearby points of interest and/or attractions which is particularly helpful. The village of Soufriere with the two Pitons is not too far and I found the Southern part of the island (where the villa is located) much more pleasant than the Northern part (it is more quiet, peacefull, genuine).
I also liked the way we communicated with the owner. He always replied to our inquiries in a timely and professional manner. If I am returning to St Lucia, I'll definitely stay at the Sapphire House again.
Sapphire House is located just West of Laborie, a local West Indian Fishing village. Although not a tourist location, many holiday activities are within a short drive including wind surfing, kite surfing, snorkeling/diving, catamaran day cruises, hiking and beaches.
Local quality dining nearby.
