Guestbook comments from the owner
Dear Patricia

We have enjoyed the stay in your cottage. But indeed, the weather was really far from perfect so we could not enjoy the region a much as we had planned to in tems of outdoor activities. We shoul come back in spring or summer. The cottage is really nice - But would have been nice to use the garden.

Hello, my name is Patricia. I lived abroad most of my life, USA, Portugal... and I spend 12 years in the UK. I worked in Sales and Marketing in the IT Industry and I now teach English and French. I moved to Burgundy in 2010 and renovated 2 gites, I am also the founder of 123lang.com. I also work with a Chef and propose Cookery Classes. (Burgundy dishes)

I fell in love with the cottage as a child, the cottage was a family property. The house at the time was a fishermen's cottage with stone floor, no water nor electricity. I decided to renovate it and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.

Beautiful Riverside Garden

  • 5 out of 5
This charming stone cottage is situated in the most serene, private garden. When the weather permitted we spent many hours sitting there watching fisherman across the way and feeding ducks that came by. While small, this lovely cottage was well equipped with everything needed. The sleeping loft accessed by a sturdy ladder had a comfortable bed with nice bedding. Patricia was always helpful and we spent a nice evening visiting at her house nearby. The area is perfect for taking long walks along the river or up the hill to the town of Semur. If having a lovely outdoor space is an important part of your travel, then Le Jardin De L'Armancon is the place for you. It surely was for us! Thank you Patricia.

This was the most wonderful little cottage. The stone patio with the table and chairs added another room and made the house seem very spacious and comfortable. It's located on a small river, but the trees and flowers provide complete privacy (except for the male and female duck that came up the steps in the afternoon to sit in the shade.) The short walk into town for groceries, shopping, and lunch was fun. Be sure and go to the Market on Sunday morning--we bought a roasted chicken and some vegetables and took them back to the cottage for dinner that night. From this location, it's easy to drive to all the other walled cities around the area--we even found a wine festival in Tonnerre and had a great time. Patricia was the best landlady, very friendly and warm, and went out of her way to make us welcome and help us in our emergency. We give the cottage, and her, a complete "10." I only wish I could go back some day.

Cozy Cottage under the Ramparts of Semur-en-Auxois

  • 5 out of 5
My husband and I stayed in the cutest, clean, renovated cottage just below the ramparts of medieval Semur-en-Auxois for a full week in September. The cottage is part of the old town -- on the lower section and on the river. The cottage is perfect for a couple. We spent most of our time during the day wandering around Burgundy; we spent our evenings outside strolling and climbing through "old town" then playing cards in our private garden besides the river. The cottage is small, so more than two people would make it cramped. But for the two of us, we were able to spend some quality private time together. There is no television or stereo. There is internet. We found the Super Marche outside of town; as a result, we had most of our breakfasts at the cottage. Also, I made a couple of dinners in as well, and Semur has a variety of restaurants. There are plenty of kitchen supplies including a salad spinner, cheese grater, wine opener, electric pureer/soup mixer, place settings for four, etc. Of course, there is a French press for coffee, refrigerator, and an Induction single cooktop (which was the coolest stovetop we've ever seen -- once we figured it out)!! The bathroom is small, but we had no problem (great water pressure and plenty of hot water). The bedroom is above, and there is a ladder to climb to get to it. Upstairs, there is a custom built-in for clothes, an iron and ironing board, platform bed and bedside lamps. My husband could not stand up straight, but I could. There is a roof window that opens for more ventilation. As for communication, it was a 10 out of 10. The owner lives nearby. She wrote us a welcome note, and she told us to call her if there were any issues. Renting this cottage allowed us to pay with a credit card, including the security deposit, thus saving a lot of bank fees. The location of the cottage is perfect for Semur and for Burgundy ; in that week, we put over 1500 kms on our rental car exploring all over, and we saw everything!! We had a great time during our stay at this private Bourgogne retreat.
