The Velero Beach Resort is the top rated hotel in Cabarete. You will feel very comfortable at our small intimate facility. We are convenient to a supermarket that is well supplied with all the items necessary if you wish to do some cooking during your stay. In the two bedroom units you can have your choice of a bedroom with a king size bed or two queen size beds. All units have flat screen TV's. You are only a five minute walk down the beach to the many restaurants and shops as well as the night life.
I am a retired businessman that took up kitesurfing at the age that most guys take up shuffleboard. I am always interested in meeting new people. Velero is a condo/hotel which means each unit is individually owned of which I own 6 units which can be rented as 6 two bedroom two bath units or as 12 one bedroom units. Some owners have their units in a rental pool which you can rent by going directly through the hotel.
Rick Brackins purchased this hotel in 2004
Our facility is very quiet and offers a nice green area surrounding our infinity pool. We have a private parking area although a car is really not necessary here.
You will be met and escorted by a young dominican lady that is fluent in English to show you around and answer any questions that you may have.
Our stay at Valero went above and beyond our expectations. The condo was lovely with a beautiful view of the pool, ocean, and on-site restaurant/bar. The location was perfect with easy access to Cabarete's many restaurants and night life but just off the beaten path enough to feel very private and secure, and with a well stocked market just a five minute walk away, we wanted for nothing more than a longer vacation. The community was warm, welcoming, and bent over backwards to make you feel comfortable---Indira's pick up at the airport was just the beginning of the hospitality and kindnesses that were extended to us throughout our stay. We would highly recommend Rick's place for anyone looking for a carefree visit to Cabarete. Thank you so much, Rick and Indira, for making our first visit to the north coast such a wonderful experience.
The resort is tucked away and on the beach, so private and secluded. Don’t worry about Security as there is someone around day and night. The grocery store is only yards away at the corner of the street and it has everything you would need for your stay. If you choose not to cook and can enjoy the sun rise sipping coffee or a Romantic dinner overlooking the ocean and view a beautiful sunset at the Restaurant on the complex.
The 1 bedroom with kitchen was a dream, so clean, quiet and air conditioned. There is a large living room, eating area and fully equipped kitchen. Everything was there that you needed, stove, large fridge with freezer, microwave and lots of storage. Sitting on the Balcony you have a view of the pool and the ocean and can see the sun go down.
The staff at the resort are so happy and helpful and were always there to help. I don't speak Spanish but had no problem as there was always someone to help. You are even able to have room service in your room and put on you tab.
Day and night there is Security on site and I felt very safe.
There isn't tons of guests around so you can enjoy and relax or if you choose to leave the resort to site see talk to Indira and with her vast knowledge and experience can help you do what ever you choose. In the mornings or evenings down by the beach you can watch locals fishing for the catch of the day. You are only a block off the main street where you are in walking distance to main Restaurants and shopping.
So much fun to ride on the back of the bikes just make sure they don't charge you too much, should be no more than 50 paso.
As a International Fashion Photographer I was able to be taken places with Indira that were off the beaten path with models that gave me locations not seen by others. This trip was so fantastic that for sure I am going back and without any hesitation for sure will stay at the Velero Resort and will book again with Rick... What great people to have met. The next time I will stay longer. Feel free to ask Rick for my email is you want more info.
We stayed in Rick's unit for 2 weeks and would highly recommend this resort. It was our first time renting a unit directly from an owner and therefore we had concerns. Rick was easy to deal with and everything went smoothly from the time we sent the deposit to the transfer from the airport to the hotel (even though our flight was 2 hours late) return transfer, hotel staff is very helpful and courteous. Rooms are clean, food and beverages at the hotel are great and reasonable. The unit was well equipped, (though we did not cook) and there is a grocery store just a 2 minute walk from the hotel that would have everything you need if you choose to prepare meals in the unit (and they deliver).
It is a beautiful, small, quiet resort on a lovely long stretch of beach. A 5-10 minute walk to Cabarete where the little village comes to life in the evenings and enjoy a variety of great little restaurants right on the beach.
We recommend this resort if you enjoy a quaint, quiet little spot. The picture do accurately depict the resort. We have already booked our return this December!
Rick's unit at Velero has the best of all formulas. You are in a hotel, with all the services that entails, including a small gym, laundry service if you require it, help from the front desk with your restaurant, golf or tour reservations, etc. Normally, when you rent from the owner, you have to take care of transportation yourself. Not here! Indira greeted us upon arrival at Puerto Plata and she is a sweetie. She gave us a lot of information about Cabarete, Velero, and answered all our questions with grace in a very good english. She was there right ontime for the ride back to the airport, event though we didn't feel like leaving... Victor's at Velero, the hotel restaurant, offers good food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It has a great location right on the beach. So if you don't feel like cooking or walking to the town center (500 meters), you can stay right there and enjoy a good meal. But then again you can also cook, since the condo has everything you might need in its kitchen! And the supermarket (open from 8-8) is right on the corner, not even 100 meters from the hotel. You can also take advantage of one of the more than 75 restaurants Cabarete has to offer. We enjoyed Otra Cosa the most, it's litteraly right next door to Velero, very romantic, great for a special occasion. Casita de Papi is a must for the langostas. La Terrasse is also a must for the home made pasta and the chocolate mousse. Gordito's, Front Loop, Belgian Bakery are good options for lunch or casual dinner.
The infinity pool at Velero is really nice. Again if you feel like being pampered you can order drinks or food from the waiter and charge it to your room.
The beach is also nice, you walk down a few steps and you're on a beautiful white sand beach. And the security guard always keeps an eye on you. Tip for runners: if you run on the beach (going left from Velero), you have 2.5 kms to go until you reach the Kite Club point, where you will see the blue flag. (5k round-trip)
We walked almost every night from Velero to town center and back, and we always felt safe.
The condo we rented is on ground level, which is very convenient. And it seems to be the best location in the resort, facing directly towards the pool and the ocean.
A/C works very well and it is very quiet.
Rick was a pleasure to deal with throughout the whole process, and Indira and the front desk staff were just as friendly and accomodating.
I highly recommend this unit.
