About Family Reeve

We've lived on and off in Hayfield since the 1980s, although now for some time living abroad we make frequent visits back. On arriving, we always feel instantly at home. There is something about the place. Our 3 children, now teenagers, spent their early years in Hayfield, and we all retain very strong ties.

Family Reeve purchased this house in 1994

Why Family Reeve chose Hayfield

We had been looking for a family home, and were lucky to find SBC which combined a great location with the possibility to create a home for a growing family. We did a lot of work from top to bottom before it was ready. Our aim was to maximise the space and views whilst retaining its character. We continue to love coming back to the house and have made ongoing improvements a priority. Most recently, we have refitted 2 bathrooms and added an en suite on the top floor.

What makes this house unique

You can't get more central than Spring Bank Cottage, literally a short step from the shops, the restaurants and the pubs This, combined with the exceptional views make it really one of very few large houses which offer both easy access and a spectacular setting.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a lovely weekend with all the family. The weather was wet and windy for most of the time, but it cleared for part of Sunday so we managed a late morning walk (one of our favourites up to the reservoir, turn left and then back into Hayfield from the moor). The house was nice and warm so we turned the radiator settings down. The grandchildren loved the downstairs playroom.

Great property in a wonderful location

  • 4 out of 5
A great house with a lovely welcoming feel. It was well equipped throughout and had very comfortable furnishings. Lovely and clean too. We were lucky enough to watch two cricket matches during our stay and with the perfect position on the balcony we sat back and relaxed with a glass of wine - bliss. The local pub served great food and is only a few minutes walk down the road. It also allowed us to use their free wifi to keep in touch with family and friends as the house does not have internet. The village has great amenities but with a lovely rural feel to it. On our arrival we found that the oven was broken but this was not a problem. Five minutes after phoning Phil it was fixed - first class service thanks Phil ! We would definitely recommend this house to friends and family and would love to stay there again !

Owner's Response: Helen, we are delighted you enjoyed the house, the cricket and Hayfield! It was our family home, we often have return stays and want the house to be as we would like to find a holiday home. Thanks for the feedback, we are glad Phil was able to promptly fix the fuse on the oven and we are planning on installing high speed internet within the next couple of months.

Spring Bank Cottage, Hayfield

  • 5 out of 5
We have stayed at Spring Bank Cottage many times, and no matter the weather, have always had a great holiday. We enjoy the central location within the village, the walks from the doorstep and Rosie's cafe just across the road. Pubs and shops are within a 2 minute walk, and since the house is very spacious and the outlook so good you don't need to get in the car or even leave the house. There are two comfortable sitting rooms and a good sized kitchen. I'm looking forward to my next stay!

Spring Bank cottage

  • 5 out of 5
We had a fantastic stay at Spring Bank Cottage. The house was superb - loads of room for the 6 of us and everything we needed was there. The website description was spot on - the playground was a 2 minute walk away, the village was beautiful with loads of spectacular walks and the cricket pitch was literally at the back door! If anything the website and photos really do not do the house and location justice. Thank you so much for our home from home - even providing a cricket match on Saturday afternoon that we could watch from the comfort of the garden!

Frequent visitors to Spring Bank Cottage

  • 5 out of 5
We love Spring Bank Cottage. It is large, clean and well equipped with comfortable beds - that's a must! The views are superb. It is good just to relax in the garden room or in the peaceful garden, but the balcony is a bonus overlooking the cricket pitch in the centre of the village.

There are plenty of walks for every ability, from strolls round the village and along by the stream, to the beautiful Sett Valley, Lantern Pike and Kinder Scout on the Pennines.

We like Buxton, Bakewell, and Chatsworth of course, and the Derbyshire villages - which explains why we are frequent visitors.

Buxton Salford and Manchester have theatres for other entertainment (booking advised.)

Reccommended for all age groups if you enjoy beautiful countryside.

Cottage like a tardis

  • 5 out of 5
We have just returned from a lovely stay in Hayfield. The cottage is in a very good location within the village, minutes from shops and restaurants. The views over the cricket pitch are beautiful - they do seem to take their cricket seriously in Hayfield!
Hayfield is a perfect base from which to explore the Peak District.
The cottage looks like a 2 up - 2 down from the front but is really spacious inside. It is equipped with everything you need for a home away from home. The laundry room is handy.
Parking is on the quiet street at the front but we never had a problem finding a space.
The children could walk to the park and we could see them from the lounge.
This cottage is very good value for money in a beautiful area and we would love to return. To be ultra critical perhaps the light fittings are a little dated - but if that's all it can't be bad!

Owner's Response: We're really pleased you had such a great stay. We love going there ourselves, and have often done the same thing, watching our children play on the recreation field from the balcony.
We are always looking to make improvements and your feedback is very welcome.
