Cathedral View is a luxurious mews-style town house sleeping up to 8 guests offering quality self catering accommodation. This delightful property sits within a conservation area in the heart of Wells overlooking the spectacular 12th century Gothic cathedral. Quietly situated, Cathedral View offers parking and is just a short walk from smallest cathedral city Wells' fine choice of restaurants, pubs, the cinema and open air markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Wells Cathedral and the Bishops Palace are a mere 10 minute walk from the property. Perfectly placed in the heart of Somerset, Wells is within easy reach of a host of Somerset attractions including Wookey Hole Caves, Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury, Regency Bath and historic city Bristol.

Cathedral View is available all year round to guests and short breaks are available throughout the year. Children are most welcome and the property is non smoking throughout. Feature highlights within the property include French doors leading to a secluded courtyard garden.

Wells: Although the smallest city in England, the atmosphere is more like that of small country market town. The cathedral is one of the architectural highlights of Britain, replete with magnificent Gothic carvings, a unique scissors vault to brace the building against shifting medieval foundations, and a marvellous chapter house. It also houses a wonderful clock, with mechanical knights who exchange blows every hour. Adjoining the Cathedral is the 13th century moated Bishop’s Palace - seat of the Bishop of Bath & Wells, famous for its swans who ring, twice daily, the bell beside the drawbridge for food. The Medieval Vicar’s Close is an architectural gem. Wednesday and Saturday are market days which are held in the central market place.

Somerset Carnivals: The Somerset Carnivals are highly regarded as the largest illuminated procession in the world. They occur late on in the year at various locations including: Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea, Chard, Ilminster, Glastonbury, North Petherton, Shepton Mallet, Taunton, Wellington, Wells, Weston-Super-Mare, and Yeovil.

They go back 400 years, and are one of the most spectacular events in Somerset today. In some of the bigger locations (such as Bridgwater), you can expect to see crowds of up to 150,000.

The carnival floats are designed and built by dedicated carnival clubs around the West Country. These clubs have many members who raise money throughout the year, and work tirelessly to achieve the spectacular carnival entries. The floats take part in the parade along with other entries; these range from clowns dancing in the streets to 100ft illuminated carnival floats (some with up to 30,000 light bulbs) pulled by tractors.

Children are most welcome and the property is non smoking throughout. Feature highlights within the property include French doors leading to a secluded courtyard garden. We both love the beautiful City of Wells with it's medieval architecture and unique atmosphere and when this property came on the market we couldn't resist it.

What makes this house unique

We fell in love with the views of Wells Cathedral and Glastonbury Tor from the house. It is only a short walk down one of the oldest streets in Wells to the centre plus there is a very good pub at the end of this street!

A beautiful apartment in beautiful Wells

What a wonderful stay we had here in Wells. This property is absolutely terrific. From the first contact with Suzanne til the day of departure, the process was as smooth as anyone could ask for. And the apartment is very comfortable and so well equipped - even a clothesline and clothes pins to hang laundry on the patio. It was immaculately clean and a wealth of information on the area was provided. The stairs to the 3rd floor gave us good exercise, but could be a problem for some guests. Thank you Suzanne for sharing your property with us and we will DEFINITELY stay here again if we have the good fortune to be able to return to southwest England.

The City of Wells is an ideal base for touring the West Country, with Wookey Hole Caves, Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury, Regency Bath, Bristol and the seaside resort of Weston-Super-Mare all in close proximity. For those who like to get some exercise there is excellent walking in the nearby Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (the West Mendip Way starts just half a mile from St Thomas Mews) with cycling and bird watching on the Somerset Levels. Sporting facilities in the area include racing at Wincanton and Bath, golf at Wells and near Oakhill. There is also a leisure centre in Wells.

Cathedral View is located just 55 miles from WEYMOUTH - host to the Olympic Sailing event and just over 7 miles from MILLFIELD SCHOOL named as one of the possible training camp locations.
