Situated in an elevated setting overhanging picturesque Ambleside, yet only a minute's stroll from the centre, Boden Howe provides superb luxury accommodation for 4 people and boasts unrivalled views. This traditional Lakeland house comprises of entrance hall, superb dining room with large picture window, extensively equipped kitchen with separate larder and granite worktops and access to large cellar suitable for storing outdoor equipment. The sumptuous lounge is situated on the first floor with more panoramic views from the bay window, together with a double bedroom overlooking the sloping garden, and separate bathroom. The luxurious super king en-suite bedroom is situated on the second floor, again with breathtaking views! There is also a single bedroom on this floor. There is no vehicular access to Boden Howe but private car parking is available close by, secure if required. Complimentary admission to Salutation Hotel leisure club facilities (100 mtrs from house).

Why Helen Metcalfe chose Ambleside

Boden Howe and the three other houses on this unique terrace were built by my forebears and subsequently each occupied by a family member. My father was born in 'No 1' in 1920 and moved into 'No 2' ( Boden Howe) following his uncle's death in 1961. This was my parents' home until I inherited it in 2007. We have successfully let the house over the past three years and many guests feel it exceeds expectation.

What makes this house unique

We believe Boden Howe has one of the best uninterrupted panoramic views in Ambleside. The proximity to village amenities is without doubt a huge advantage to guests and this combination of views and convenience appears to be its major attraction.

A very enjoyable stay

Boden Howe is a very comfortable and immaculate house. It is located conveniently near shops and restaurants in the centre of Ambleside, in a quiet elevated terrace with beautiful views over the surrounding fells and the village itself. The house is very spacious and is equipped with everything you might need, including plenty of crockery, a wide range of cooking equipment, a dishwasher and washing machine, bedding and towels. There are three good bedrooms, so our two children were able to have separate rooms, plus a a seating area in the dining room as well as the lounge, so we could all find space for ourselves. A real bonus was the free access to the leisure club and swimming pool at the nearby Salutation Hotel. The children swam every day, and for them this really enhanced the holiday. Steve, the friendly owner, dropped by on our first day to check that everything was OK and to clean the already clean windows. Overall, we had a great week. Boden Howe is certainly one of the best holiday houses we've ever stayed in.

We have traveled to the UK for decades and rented holiday cottages and this is the best of the best! The location gave us privacy, yet was minutes away from the village center. Steve and Helen Metcalf created an updated and beautiful cottage and live in Ambleside. They were most gracious hosts. They made our vacation a total pleasure. We highly recommend Boden Howe.

Superb self catering cottage in Ambleside

We came to Boden Howe in May 2011 and because the cottage was so well placed for visiting Ambleside with a variety of shops, varied restaurants and 2 cinemas we booked again to stay in Boden Howe this year. The decor of the cottage is very tasteful and clean and all amenities are provided so that self catering is no problem as the 2 small supermarkets are less than 5 minutes walk away. Having breakfast in the dining room or sitting in the comfortable lounge with such a spectacular view is really memorable with the sky constantly changing - especially when we saw snow in May on the surrounding hills then brilliant sunshine!
This all helped to convince us that we will be back to visit Boden Howe again next year - thanks for everything - Helen and Steve!

Magnificent Home Away Home

As we sit down to write this little review it is hard to know where to begin. First let us say that we would HIGHLY recommend Boden Howe. Now, if you have a few minutes to read some details, we would like to share our exceptional experience with you. Both Boden Howe and its owners (Helen and Steve) are spectacular. From our first email contact with Helen, we felt like we had a new friend. During our stay Helen and Steve took exceptional care of us. We won't mention all the special treatment that we received because we don't want to set expectations too high! However, to mention a few - helped us track down and retrieve our luggage that went astray during our flight, loaned us some warm, waterproof gear while we were waiting for ours to arrive, showed us their beautiful countryside, recognized that we loved their company, so they swung by to visit with us... Now for a description of lovely Boden Howe. Where to start... it is amazing! The views from every room are gorgeous. The location is ideal. The home is immaculate, very comfortable, extremely well equipped, spacious and so charming. Our only regret is that we had to leave Boden Howe, Helen and Steve. We weren't even a day out the door and we were emailing Helen and Steve asking if they had 3 weeks available for us this fall. They did and we are already counting down the days to our return. We would HIGHLY recommend Boden Howe to those of you in search of accommodations in the Cumbria area.

Perfect cosy cottage

My boyfriend and I have just spent a week at Boden Howe and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it - what a perfect cottage for staying in the heart of the Lakes. I would recommend it to anyone.

While we were there we cooked lovely dinners in the spacious kitchen, watched DVDs in the cosy living room and enjoyed breakfasts in the dining room overlooking the beautiful scenery. It only takes about 60 seconds to get into the village, so after we were full from our lovely dinner at Lucy's On A Plate, we staggered home and snuggled straight back in!

Really nice bathroom and comfy bedrooms, couldn't really fault it at all. We'll definitely be asking to stay again!

Of all the towns and villages in the Lake District Ambleside in unique. It is here the walking enthusiast may buy all they need for the hills in any one of a galaxy of outdoor shops and, so equipped,

start out directly up the slopes on which the village is built. Wansfell soars above the town; it's summit views stretching the length of Windermere, on to the Fairfield and Kentmere Horseshoe skylines and out towards Ingleborough. Between its sprawling flanks and Red Screes is Stock Ghyll, a rift channelling an eponymous beck over waterfalls and on into the village, underneath Bridge House and eventually merging with the River Rothay.
