rural house set in an olive grove in Extremadura with swimming pool

Birdwatching here from the porch can also be very rewarding. We just witnessed two Black Vultures patrolling the mountainside.
The first week of our stay two Hoopoe parents were feeding their young in the olive tree next to the “roundabout” in front of the house. Our daughter discovered the nest at about ground level in the trunk when she approached the tree and saw a hoopoe looking out from one of the holes.
A pair of Sardinian Warblers was darting near the gate offering each other nice juicy caterpillars. This must be the most common warbler in the area.
Almost always you can hear a Corn Bunting, singing from one of the tree tops. Not a difficult song, one simple strophe lasting maybe five seconds but very characteristic and unmistakeable. Just now the hoopoe starts calling from the rooftop. One other typical sound I heard this morning is that of the Golden Oriole. I saw two birds earlier this week in front of the Finca Al Manzil house.
Of course we saw some other animals too. the frogs near the pool let us know that they are still there. the children found some lizards. We saw blue, white, and brownish butterflies, but we don’t know which kind. Yesterday a gecko climbed the wall of the house close to the porch roof. Near the well (pozo) some tongue orchids are blooming. A few nights ago the sky was clear, no moon, so it was really really dark, as dark as I haven’t seen in years, so we enjoyed watching thousands of stars.
We loved it being here in Casa Alfarera. It’s a great place to spend a holiday. We would love it to return one day and we’ll recommend this casa to our friends and family.
