The apartment is on the 2nd floor with access by lift, and located in Nador Street, in the prestigious, central area of District 5. It has a quiet courtyard location. It has been completely renovated, and is furnished and equipped to an excellent standard. The rooms have beautiful oak floors and magnificent, high ceilings with period lights. Original pictures and limited edition prints decorate the walls. There are several dozens of restaurants close by, from inexpensive all the way to first class international cuisine, In fact you are only two minutes away from some of the best and most popular restaurants in Budapest including the popular Borkonyha (Wine Kitchen) with a Michelin star. All forms of public transport -metro, tram and bus are also in the immediate area.The Danube and the beautiful Chain Bridge are a 2 minute walk, and Vaci Street and the new Fashion Street by The Kempinski Hotel are only 10 mins away-the great location of the apartment lets you visit all the top attractions in Budapest on foot. Our English speaking taxi driver can meet you at the airport or train station and take you to the apartment, so that you have no worries when you arrive in Hungary. About The Owner

Myself (Bridgett Gill) and my partner (Brendan Wheatley) are in our late fifties and involved in the world of opera. We run Swansea City Opera, a mid scale opera company which tours all over the UK, and also Opera Box, well known for its smaller shows and outdoor performances of opera. Both are registered charities. The history, culture and love of music of the Hungarian people were a great influencing factor in our decision to buy a classical apartment in Budapest. We were looking for an investment for our retirement and had planned to visit three countries before making our choice, but after seeing the beauty of Budapest and finding the Hungarian people so friendly and welcoming, we decided to look no further. We hope you love the city us much as we do!

Why The Owner chose Budapest

Because we live in a very old cottage in Wales and love historic houses, we were looking for a building and apartment that had history and original features. We think we have found the perfect apartment and have completely renovated and restored it with a lot of love and thought. As well as being in a beautiful building, designed by Budapest's second most famous architect -Joseph Hild, the apartment is close to all forms of public transport, and central to all the tourist attractions and the Opera House. In addition, because we love good food and wine, we chose a location with good restaurants close by! By the way I can heartily recommend Hungarian wine, not a lot of it is sold abroad as they keep most of it for themselves!

What makes this apartment unique

We took our time over renovating our apartment because we wanted to preserve the old Hungarian character whilst having all the advantages of modern living. We explored the fascinating antique come flea market on the outskirts of Budapest, called Ecseri, where we found our original light fittings and door handles, and visited many auction houses to buy original pictures and furniture that we then restored. When we bought our apartment in 2007 the courtyard and grand, classically arched interior of the house were still in a rather dilapidated state, the courtyard is now completely restored and redecorated. It looks fantastic and I know I shouldn't, but I feel very proud!

Roomy,comfortable, and close to everything.

Super location...grocery across the street for everything including libations...many wonderful restaurants near by...and if you are doing a river cruise the boats are a few blocks away. We schlepped our own luggage and all and we are in our 70's. You can walk to many parks and markets...as well as the big shopping areas. It was very nice to be picked up at the airport and have someone walk us through the apartment and be on call in case something was amiss.

We had a wonderful stay!

Bridgett's apartment is perfectly situated for a wonderful visit in Budapest! The location is close to so many attractions - we visited everywhere by foot. The apartment is very comfortably appointed; there's a grocery across the street for many needs, and many wonderful restaurants, cafes, and bakeries nearby. Bridgett was so easy to work with, and communicated with us very promptly. She arranged our airport and rail station transportation with her driver Attila - he was always on-time and lovely to talk with! I would definitely stay at this apartment again next time I travel to Budapest. Thank you, Bridgett!

Great Location But

You could not find a better location. Close to historic sites, transportation, wonderful restaurants, and night life. I do however caution you on the word Luxury in the listings title. Luxury it is not. When you read the combination Luxury Refurbished you would expect some nice furnishings but not here. The furnishings are extremely dated and not even close to luxury, perhaps bargain basement worn and tired but not luxury. The front door lock entry plate comes away from the door. The towels were perhaps luxurious and white at one time but coarse and grey/white is the case now. The photographs make this place look bright and cherry. The reality is the lighting is not great and the place definitely is not cherry. Of special note is the small bathroom with the shower. It is small and downright dingy, be careful rising from the toilet so you don't whack your head on the hot water heater on the wall.
The wi-fi was first rate and the beds comfortable.
We hate to write a negative review but the truth is we did expect luxury refurbished and we would not stay here again.

Owner's Response: I am very saddened by this review, it is the first time anyone has said anything negative about the apartment. The furniture and lighting in the apartment are as on the photographs. The property faces onto the courtyard so does not get direct sunlight, but there are big windows in every room. When we refurbished the apartment we chose to furnish it in keeping with the period of the property, so the furniture in the sitting room is antique and expensive, the kitchen and the bathrooms are modern and the towels were new from John Lewis 4 months ago. Nothing is 'bargain basement'. I think you only have to read the other reviews about the property to see that. I will definitely investigate the front lock plate as I was not aware of the problem and it will be fixed.

Perfect Budapest Vacation Rental

My wife and I and our traveling campanions loved this apartment. With two nice bedrooms, two baths, fully equipped kitchen, and a nice sitting area, this apartment more than met our needs. The location is fabulous - plenty of sites and good restaurants within walking distance. We recommend seeing an Opera when in town - the Opera house is also within walking distance. Attila picked us up at the train station, showed us a convenient ATM location so we could get Forints, and told us about the great city of Budapest. Bridgette quickly replied to any questions I had about our visit. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Budapest.

Perfect location!

Thank you Bridgett for sharing your apartment. This apartment is in an excellent location, there is a grocery right across the street & everything is within walking distance. We did use the metro one day to get to the szechenyi baths & the stop was also conveniently close. The shower was great & there are some really good restaurants near. Attila was wonderful & we enjoyed visiting with him. The only suggestion we have would be to have ear plugs if you are a light sleeper & not used to apartment living There were a few noisy nights that disrupted my husbands sleep. We do hope to return to the apartment in the future & would definitely recommend this apartment.

We do not normally have problems with noise in the apartment, the other residents are very considerate, however we were there recently and could see that the builders are working in the courtyard area. They begin very early so perhaps it was that that inconvenienced your husband. Whatever it was I hope it didn't affect you too badly and hope very much that you will think of us again if you return.

Fabulous apartment close to everything

This was a beautiful place to stay, close to the Chain Bridge, shops and restaurants, yet really quiet. Bridgett was a friendly communicator throughout, and arranged for Attila, a knowledgeable English speaking taxi driver to pick us up from the airport. The apartment is well equipped, beautifully furnished, and really large. I would recommend this to anybody visiting Budapest.

The apartment is in the perfect location, near the Basilica in the prestigious District 5. All the top tourist attractions are within an easy 10 min walking distance, including the Opera House, Parliament, National Art Museum, Castle District and the funicular railway, the Famous Chain Bridge and the Vaci Utca shopping street. It is also close to a supermarket and a covered market where you can by excellent fresh produce. It is also, very importantly, only 2 mins walk from some very good bars and restaurants; the Hungarians have some really excellent wine and food! The nearest metro station is 5 mins walk away, and bus and tram stops are 2 mins away. The apartment is also close to the street which houses all the prime antique shops specialising in Biedermeier and Art Deco furniture. Budapest is regaining its former glory, there is street after street of fabulous architecture, many buildings are fully renovated and many still have their rather shabby-chique charm.

The apartment is fully centrally heated but has no air-conditioning, there are two floor standing electric fans. In the interests of all wishing to use the apartment, this accommodation is strictly no smoking and we are unable to accept pets. The apartment is also not suitable for children under 10 years old. Strictly no hen or stag parties. There are no special adaptations in the apartment but we have had one lady with limited mobility, who often used a wheelchair, staying at the apartment with a friend. She said she managed well but could not have managed on her own. There are 10 steps up to the lift, but the steps have a hand rail and once out of the lift, the corridor around the courtyard is wide. The doors in the apartment (apart from the one into the en-suite bathroom) are also wide enough for a wheel chair.
