Denise Holtz purchased this house in 2014
Our home was built circa 1840 in the neighborhood of Ansonborough. It was completely restored over the past few years and much of the original structure is still evident. The area has a colorful history and we encourage you to learn more about it from the information we share in our home.
The house is a traditional three story Charleston single, known for it's construction on long narrow lots. The 'front' door is located on the long end of the home facing the street and leads onto a piazza. However, the actual door into our home is located in the center of the piazza. The house is one room wide on each floor and has windows across from one another that would allow the local Charleston winds to flow through. There are 4 bedrooms and 2.5 baths included in the 3 story house.
Charleston singles often had a separate structure used for kitchens and another as a carriage house. Our home still has the kitchen house (a one bedroom/one bath loft) located in the rear of the property which we rent separately to our guests, or it can be included in with the main house for larger parties.
We stayed in this home for 3 nights at the end of May and had an amazing time. The house was extremely clean and well appointed. The furnishings and decor are outstanding and very "Charleston". The location is great for walking to the tourist sights, City Market, King Street, and there are many great restaurants nearby. We loved siting on the porches in the morning too. Our group took advantage of the Harris Teeter across the street for breakfast foods, which was super convenient.
Thank you Denise for a great weekend!
My 4 sisters and I travel every year together. Once we've picked our destination we spend the time to pick the perfect place to stay. This home was the ideal central place to tour the Charleston area, we walked everywhere! The home was beautifully decorated and comfortable. The living room was a great place to sit and relax after a long day of touring and we spent some time enjoying the veranda sipping on a glass of wine. Although we did not cook a meal ,the kitchen had top notch appliances and was stunning. The grocery store across the street was very convenient and we felt very safe in the neighborhood. It was such a pleasure to walk down the tree lined streets and discover the beautiful homes all so well kept and unique. Denise was very accommodating and was there to greet us despite our several flight delays. We highly recommend this gem and hope to be back.
My family rented this house for the week of my oldest daughter's wedding, which took place at Magnolia Plantation. The week could not have gone better. The location of the house was ideal as it was close to the high points of Charleston shopping and close to the only grocery store in the historic district. Guest for the wedding began to arrive as soon as Tuesday and the house was an easy walk or rickshaw ride from the various hotels. The home, built in 1840 I believe, had all the modern conveniences of a home that might be constructed in 2013. It was spacious and perfect for receiving guests. It was also extremely comfortable for resting and down time. We cooked several meals and had everything we needed for what sometimes were complex recipes. Denise was a joy to work with and made sure all our needs were meet. She went out of her way to take care of us and insure that we had a first class experience. I could not recommend this home more highly. This was Charleston living at its finest and most luxurious.
This is truly one of the most well appointed homes I have visited in Charleston. I love to cook and was appreciative of the Viking stove as well as the beautiful dining room. The bedrooms are beautifully decorated. Harris Teeter is across the street and you are in walking distance to Market Street and Meeting St., close to the best restaurants. I look forward to visiting again. I will add that the photos do not reflect the beauty of the perfect restoration of this lovely historical property.
We enjoyed our stay at this property. Everything was so clean and with enough equipment to do not worry about anything.
Thank you very much for keeping such a beatiful and well organized rental property.
House was just as displayed in pictures and very clean. Three adult couples and we had plenty of room. The bonus of having off-street parking was not appreciated until in Charleston - this is a definate plus. My initial thoughts from pictures were the kitchen may be too small for cooking, but it is actually perfect - had plenty of room. Two blocks from the market and all the shopping, the restaurants are all within walking distance too. Owners are very accomodating. Would say one of the best vacations ever.
Take an evening stroll down to the Yacht Club with its grand antebellum houses, see the sun setting over Fort Sumpter with its ghosts of the Civil War. Saunter back via East Bay and its bars or visit upper King Street where the locals hang out.
