The gas fireplace is river rock from floor to the vaulted ceiling and the balcony is great for morning coffee; there is extensive decking with a nearly new large outdoor spa. There is a king size bed, two queen size beds and two trundle beds; additionally, there are two sleeper sofas. There is an oversized, attached 2 car garage with automatic garage door opener, and a separate entrance to the private guest apartment. The smaller living section is great for disgruntled teens, grandparents, or on-laws. The game room has a pool table and area for kids to play video games. The yard is nearly 10,000 sf in a quiet secluded setting in desirable Upper Moonridge just two blocks from the forest. There are many windows for connecting with nature, and the national forest with hiking trails is just two blocks away. It is located minutes away from skiing, snowboarding, Nordic skiing, and snow shoeing. There is ample opportunity for walking, for stargazing or playing flashlight tag, and for observing nature. This home is a short drive to a golf course, zoo, the town center, the lake, a museum, library, and hospital (and antique shops!). There are also opportunities for horseback riding, mountain biking, climbing, hiking and trail running, fishing, boating, playing on a small beach, and participating in other lake-based adventures. There is even a children's forest nearby, with educational programs. The town is located near a desert, within 2 1/2 hours of L.A. and Palm Springs. Big Bear Lake takes pride in being a town that cares for and honors children, and there are many creative and fun events held. The weather is fabulous, with average summer lows of 45, and average winter high temps of 45, which makes for a delightful and beautiful four-seasons getaway experience.

Kathy - I have always loved forests and woods, and hiking is my bliss. Both my husband and I were born in Louisiana, and we traveled the world while he was in the military until we moved back to Louisiana to raise our children among family. We both enjoy outdoor activities, but those have been limited by the hot, humid weather.
When our older son passed through Big Bear Lake while visiting friends in California, he thought it was the prettiest area he had ever seen, so we decided to check it out for ourselves and fell in love with the town, the people, and the peacefulness. The weather, with its four distinct seasons, has been perfect for the enjoyment of our outdoor pursuits.

Big Bear Lake is a beautiful area with a fascinating past. My husband and I decided to take a few days of vacation following a business meeting in Los Angeles in the summer of 2012, and this is the first area we both fell in love with in our 31 years of traveling the world together. After looking at dozens of houses, we both knew immediately that this was the right home for us. Because of the layout of the house, it is perfect for family get togethers or for a quiet, romantic getaway. The separate living area works wonders as a barrier for families traveling with disgruntled teens or in-laws! We hope that you will enjoy it as much a we do.
What makes this house unique
This spacious home includes an apartment with its own entrance that is connected to the house but that can provide privacy. The there three bedrooms are located upstairs, away from the main living areas. The large windows provide beautiful views and abundant light. Because of its location near the top of the mountain ridge, there is little traffic yet only a short drive to the village, where there are restaurants, ski shops, and other attractions.
