This is an ideal family holiday retreat, warm and welcoming, with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. This unusual three storey 13th century house lies in the heart of a beautiful medieval village. It has been renovated by its owner, who brought it back to life in absolute sympathy with its setting, revealing gems like hidden vaulted stone ceilings, and a 12th century stone column in the kitchen. The walls of the lower two floors are all rendered with traditional lime in delicious ochre tones that create a warmth throughout. Both the kitchen and sitting room have underfloor heating so you won't be needing your slippers! The vast kitchen with beams and flagstones, lends itself to those gourmets who would like to spend time cooking up a feast. The house is extremely comfortable and cosy, whilst on the terrace and in the garden you'll have a wonderful feeling of space and beauty - the perfect combination for a relaxing holiday.
We live with our four children forty minutes from Mont st Jean. I am a mum at home, and Roger is in the building trade. Having renovated and lived in La Maison du Pigeonnier for five years, we are now currently renovating another house which we bought as a ruin. This time it's for us to live in!
Naomi Bishop purchased this house in 2006
The area was already well known to us, Roger having lived here for nearly thirty years. We heard about this property by chance from a friend, who was told that it would be coming up for sale in the near future. We decided to make an offer that was accepted before the house was ever put up for sale!
We bought this house for it's location. It was love at first sight! The view was so breathtaking and the surroundings so tranquil. It is a property steeped in history, so very unique.
In the village of Mont st Jean is a great restaurant 'Le Medieval', just a few paces from the house, a restaurant/bistro at 'Chateau Les Roches', and a cafe open on Wednesday and Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons which often has concerts of all types and discussion evenings.
The village is full of history - the oldest mediaeval hospital in France, château, lavoir etc
There is a tennis court for hire from the Mairie.
On the 15th August there is the biggest brocante of the Cote D'Or in Mont St Jean where you can be sure to find a wonderful french antique. Otherwise each village has 'Vide Greniers' every Sunday during high season where you can find all sorts of antiques sold by locals.
