About this property

TRAILS RIGHT OUT YOUR BACK DOOR -- Yet Walk to Town!

Important to know: If you bring dogs, we have a pet fee of $50, which covers a maximum of 2 dogs allowed. We operate legally--Riverside County Tax of 10% must be added to your stay. Rates are double occupancy (2 people); extra guests charged at $15/night. We are a small, family-friendly cabin and neighborhood; while the cabin legally sleeps six, that number of adults would probably not be comfortable, as the 2nd bedroom has four bunkbeds. NOTE: There are 2 outdoor security cameras with 24-hour monitoring, one at front door, one at side door. They cover the entrance and exit area of those access points.

Now for the good part:
Happy Trails has The Location--location--location--if you're into hiking, mountain biking, walking with your dog, visiting the town center, or just enjoying all the surrounding forest has to offer, Happy Trails Cabin with its western-themed ambiance is the place to be. Literally steps (about 20, to be exact) to two main trail heads, just park your car at the cabin, and you're off! Not into hiking? A short half-mile stroll puts you in the center of Idyllwild and its shops, galleries, restaurants, and activities (check out the Wine Bistro in town--a favorite hangout--and they even let cowboys in). You'll enjoy a king-sized bed in the master, 4 bunkbeds in the second bedroom, a full bath, living room with cozy fireplace, and a real cook's kitchen. Step outside the french doors to a rear spacious deck, overlooking a completely privacy-fenced yard for your kids and pets. Out front you'll find a second gated deck where you'll relax under even more towering cedars. The adjacent county park is a favorite place with locals to walk their dogs or take a bike ride (Note: Day use fees may apply). The huge park meadow is viewable from your kitchen window and offers magnificent views of Idyllwild's iconic Lilly rock. Enter further into the park and you'll find Indian petraglyphs preserved and protected by the park. In winter, the sledding and toboggan runs of the park are an easy walk from your temporary home--no need to drive anywhere. Hit the trail in another direction and you'll arrive at Idyllwild's Nature Center--a fun place for both kids and adults to learn about Idyllwild. The Nature Center pass you will find in the cabin gives you free admission to the Center, all of their hiking trails, plus a discount in their gift shop. When your day of enjoying the outdoors is over, you'll relax in a home that features his and hers leather recliners, bar height seating between kitchen and living room in addition to sit-down kitchen table seating, and a comfortable couch that also makes up into a bed. There's a flat screen TV and DVD player over the fireplace, another in the master and free WiFi for those who just have to check their email. If you like to cook, we've got you covered -- the beautiful kitchen is completely stocked with small appliances, dishes, utensils, spices, staples, etc.
Happy Trails is owned by a cowboy and his favorite gal, but even if you're a total city-slicker, we aim to make all our guests feel completely at home and comfortable with our warm western decor and hospitality...Here's wishing you all many happy trails!

Great place for you and the pups!
This was our 2nd visit this year to this wonderful property. It's very cozy, with a beautiful fireplace, majestic trees, has a well equipped kitchen, in an excellent location near hiking trails and a short walk into town. We and the pups had a great time and look forward to our next visit!

Amazing Location
The cabin is located just outside Idyllwild Park close to the entrance to the campground. Hiking trails all around the cabin. Short walk to town which has a market in case you forgot anything. Lock box was a little challenging to open. Once I put pressure on the numbers it opened up. There are cameras at front and back doors which are located under the eaves. I didn’t feel they intruded on my privacy at all. The cameras reassured my safety. I spent most of my time on the back deck that is built around a huge pine tree. There is a large fenced in backyard to play with your dog. The master bedroom is nice with a king size bed that was very comfortable. They’re is no noise. No airplanes or traffic. Just birds singing. The Nature Center is a quick hike starting right outside the cabin. Lake Fulmer is a must visit and only 11 miles from the cabin. There is a short trail that wraps around the lake. Took my dog and she had a blast swimming in the lake. If you want solitude, then I highly recommend Happy Trails Cabin.

About the host

Host profile image
We live on a small horse ranch in Fallbrook and enjoy the company of a dog, a cat, chickens, and horses. Idyllwild is a great, close-by getaway for us and we love to visit our home often.

Why they chose this property

We bought our first cabin in Idyllwild in 2003. We added Happy Trails as a way of offering a different experience to our guests. Happy Trails is a hikers' dream.

What makes this property unique

This home's proximity to trails is unbeatable--no driving necessary. Easy/medium/difficult hikes, all just steps from the deck, and yet a walk to town is only a half-mile stroll. The County Park proximity is fabulous--lots of open space, history, the expertise of the rangers, and the Nature Center close by; the park is utilized almost exclusively by tent campers -- very few motor homes, and the campsites are all out of sight of our home; so our neighbors are people who appreciate nature as much as you do.--love that!
