HISTORIC BANK LODGING NEAR CREATION MUSEUM

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday studio in Kentucky - The Bank

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 5

This 100-year-old bank was left to ruin after a larger bank bought it out and closed it down a few years ago. Until 2012--the project began January 1st, and the first guests arrived December 27th, 2012.

The vault is now a bedroom, with a twin over full bunk bed. There's also a TV with video player (no TV reception), just in case you want to lock your kids in there for a while. (Kidding...the steel vault door is wired open :)

The main teller's area is now the living room with TV/DVD. Plus a couple tables if your group is larger and wants to eat meals in this spacious room. The living room has a full size futon, a twin day bed, and a twin trundle bed.

Off the living room is the former office area, which now has a queen size bed, a large reading chair with ottoman, and a nice-sized closet filled with extra linens, blankets, and some games and puzzles.

The kitchen is in the back of the bank--this was the employees' area. It comes complete with dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer, toaster oven, pots and pans, dishes for 9, coffee maker, and a small dining area.

Off the kitchen is the laundry area, and that leads to the full bath, with tub/shower, towels and washcloths for 9, plus hairdryer.

Check-in: 4 pm EST. Check-out: 11 am EST (lock box with keys)

Items provided: Sheets and pillows and blankets, wash cloths and towels for nine, some paper towels, toilet tissue, hairdryer, pots and pans, dishes, coffee maker, toaster, dish soap and detergent

Items to bring along: Soap and shampoo, liquid laundry detergent (no powder please, clogs up septic system :), extra paper towels, napkins, coffee and filters, foil and cling wrap, baggies, Kleenex, drinking water ?...The Bank is on a cistern, which is perfectly fine for cooking, laundry, and even drinking, but some prefer bottled.

Originally from the St. Louis area, I've lived in Petersburg since 1998. The first time I drove into town looking for a home to buy, the 'Old Petersburg Operahouse' was for sale. Having majored in music many years ago, the old building sent out a siren call for me to buy it! I've been buying and rehabbing in town ever since.

In 2011 I opened The Cottage for vacationers. It was a very slow start, and I wondered if it had been the right decision. But soon the Creation Museum guests started arriving--I love my guests! What a joy to interact with these Christian families (many with lots of children :), who are kind and intelligent...and take care of my home!

It was obvious right away that a vacation home offers a much-needed alternative to hotel rooms...most of which cannot accommodate the larger families. Also, the ability to cook your own meals instead of eating out can save money.

(And doing a little laundry during vacation can rescue you from a mountain of clothes when you get home...;-)

I hope you enjoy the adventure of staying in this historic bank building...

I went down to see CREATION MUSEUM with my friend and our 3 boys. This place was completely a blessing. We spent our time at the general store counter. Ate plenty of grilled cheese, eggs, coffee & fish too! We also had the kids play at the small community park and I enjoyed the nice library. As soon as I unpacked the car, arriving in WI, I booked another weekend for July. I have to go back because I didn't get a chance to sit at the desk and study :) The museum was terrific too. GOD IS GOOD!!

My family and I wanted see the Creation Museum, but didn't want to stay at a hotel. I happened to come across the Bank while looking online for places to stay in the area. I'm so glad we decided to stay there! Not only was the price reasonable, but Deborah was so wonderful to work with also. The Bank was very clean and everything was very convenient for us. I would highly recommend this place! Thank you!

Girlz 4 Christ LOVES The Bank!

Have you ever spent the night inside a bank vault? This may sound odd, but after staying at Deborah’s Guesthouses in Petersburg, Kentucky, I can proudly check this off on my “things I’ve done” list!
Over 100 years ago, the small Farmers Bank served the small town of Petersburg with typical banking services. Since its closing, it has been remodeled to a unique guesthouse serving travelers who visit the Creation Museum! The Creation Museum is only five miles away on a scenic drive over rolling Kentucky hills.
Despite its appearance in size, The Bank can comfortably sleep up to nine people. This is a great place for individuals, families, small groups to spend the night. (And if you need more space, Deborah’s Guesthouses offers two other Petersburg rentals, one of which can sleep up to 18 people!) But even though it’s called “The Bank” it has a very clean and home-like atmosphere. The only remaining parts that still resemble a bank are the front façade and the vault-turned-bedroom. Don’t worry, though, the vault door is secured so that no one can get locked inside! There are two other sleeping areas, a well-equipped kitchen, a full bathroom, and a laundry room.
One of my favorite amenities of the Bank was a tour map of historic Petersburg, so I was able to learn about the area on a brisk morning walk around town. The bank also offered books, board games, magazines, and movies, including some old-school VHS tapes! The staff was also very helpful, and did an excellent job in keeping the bank in tip-top shape.
If you are looking for a unique and well-kept place to stay, The Bank, one of Deborah’s Guesthouses, will provide you with a one-of-a-kind experience!

Winter Awesome Creation at the Bank

Not only were we met by a major snow system which the town was marvelously prepared for, but the Bank far exceeded our family vacation for my wonderful wife and our group of boys who each took turns sleeping in the "bank vault"! We hope to go back again when the Ark Encounter is finished.
Please thank the snow plowers/rock salt providers and Otto and Candy!...They are very hospitable and we appreciate everyone involved. Christmastown at the Creation Museum did not disappoint. God Bless and I pray everyone enjoys the videos!

Loved the Bank! We stayed over this past holiday and enjoyed the Farmers Bank homey feeling. This was way better than staying at a hotel.
