Photos and Description of this holiday apartment in Avignon - Aux Augustins Studio

1 Bathroom Studio Close To The Pope's Palace

In the heart of Provence, located in the historical center of Avignon, capital of Christendom during the Middle Ages, you will find the Bed & Breakfast guest house 'Le Clos des Augustins' and the self catering apartments “Aux Augustins”. This small haven of peace will seduce you with its sense of hospitality and with the quality and charm of its rooms and suites situated in a magical setting. More than just a hotel, Patrick, Sabine and their family welcome you in their house. A refined location that will enable you to enjoy quality time in a comfortable environment, whilst discovering the art of living the Provencal way of life. Throughout the seasons, it is an ideal starting point for discovering the diversity and richness of the South of France.

Our priority is the quality of your stay with us. That is why we propose apartments of character that are tastefully furnished and maintained to exceptional standards. Both the studios and the two-room apartments offer perfect harmony between old charm and contemporary comfort.

In particular, you will find antiquities and curiosities from the many flea markets in the region. For your comfort and convenience, each apartments is equipped with double or twin beds, a living room with a divan pull out bed (only for the two-room apartments), a shower/WC, reversible air conditioning, a fully-equipped mini-kitchen (refrigerator, 2 hotplates, microwave oven, crockery) , a flat-screen TV (satellite) and a free WiFi Internet connection.

While one part of the house is front facing, all guest rooms and apartments have a view to the patio. The patio remains a delightful retreat protected from the street … a real awakening of the senses. A small corner of paradise, a haven of peace, conducive to dreaming, meditation, and rest, welcomes you at the end of a day filled with impressions of Provence.

Away from the hustle and bustle, a door opens onto this typically Mediterranean patio. It is an invitation to soak up the sun, take in the fragrances of the Mediterranean or mingle with other guests around the fountain.

About owner/property manager Sabine Eouagnignon

During your stay we can help with information and hints about Avignon and surroundings. Avignon is a very centralized location. From this place you can visit a lot of other places in all directions by car and also by bus or by train. If you have any question about it please ask.

Why owner/property manager Sabine Eouagnignon chose Avignon

In 2012, the building with its “façade classée” and architectural elements dating from the same period, has been completely renovated. Combining spirit of the period with contemporary comfort and ecological solutions, this place is historically magic. Keeping this peaceful and green setting right in the city center, rooms and suites have been tastefully renovated. Enjoy your stay in a small piece of paradise located in the heart of the historical town.

In addition to the prestigious “Palace of the Popes”, the famous “Pont Saint Benezet” and the still intact ramparts that surrounded the city, there are also numerous other treasures to be discovered as you walk through the old streets.

What makes this apartment unique

All the streets have kept their name after the ancient professions or corporations of the Middle Ages, as “rue de la Carreterie”, which was referenced during the 14th century as carreiria Cadrigerariorum, the street of the carters. This important place was the only one to lead directly from the rampart to the “Palace of the Popes”. You will be surprised by the charm of “Place des Carmes” square, with on one hand the fabulous “Jardin des Carmes” and on the other hand its small market opened each Sunday morning that reflects the true lifestyle in Provence... Facing this beautifully renovated square, you'll find our residence which was built upon the ruins of an Augustinian Covent during the 13th century. After 1250, Augustinians installed one of their first convents in Provence. The construction finished in the 14th century.

The “Augustins Bell Tower” which overlooks the street was built between 1372 and 1377. It summoned the monastery of the mendicant order founded in 1261, apart from the first medieval enclosure that was opened thanks to “the Matheron Portal”. One public clock was placed there in 1497. After the French Revolution, the convent was dismantled and sold in batches. Following the 1907's earthquake, the bell tower was leaning slightly. The bell is now retained at the “Palace of the Pope's'.
