I am the mother of 5 grown children and have 2 lovely grandchildren, who live in the UK so I don't see them as much as I would like!! I am an animal lover and have been significantly involved in helping The Hope Sanctuary here, which is about 15 minutes from Pollards Mill. I love peace and tranquility, but I also like to meet people. I very much enjoy entertaining and often have my guests for a drink or to dinner, cooking, walking, swimming especially in my pool, which is large and quite secluded. I like reading and belong to a book club here on the island and the members are from different walks of life and differing ages and sexes, which makes for very stimulating discussions!!

Linda Cooper purchased this cottage in 2008

I bought Pollards Mill, because of the beautiful setting, the peace, tranquility and its history, which I am still trying to obtain information about. Also it has been a tremendous project for me, as I have done extensive renovations to the property in the grounds and with the buildings.

Views, peace, privacy really it is in it's own little world. I am a great fan of the book 'Gone With the Wind' so when I came here I knew it had to be mine because of the old plantation bell outside the front door, which has now become my logo. So I now feel I am really living the dream. When I leave I cannot wait to return here. The Mill, which still stands within the grounds is also very inspirational and is in very good condition. I love to sit on the lawn in front of my patio and just drink in the view whilst relaxing sunbathing and reading my book. There are many little corners in the grounds to escape to as well as some amazing old trees. On the bottom lawn there is what I would call a 'fairy ring' created by a circle of palm trees this is very magical!

9 NIGHTS IN BEAUTIFUL BARBADOS AT POLLAD MILLS!

  • 5 out of 5
My husband and I had the most fabulous experience during our 9 night stay in the Plantation View cottage on the Pollard Mills Estate. We came across Pollard Mills after we had arrived in Barbados and had a terrible experience at our pre-booked accommodation. Linda responded to our request for last-minute accommodation immediately and invited us to come up to her property for a viewing the same day we contacted her. Once we arrived at the property we both knew right away that we would be spending the remainder of our time in Barbados there. The cottage itself is absolutely stunning, a beautiful and spacious two story structure that is very clean - we felt like we were one of the first guests to ever stay there! The downstairs open-plan living area was very functional and had everything we needed to self-cater. The open concept master bedroom and bathroom upstairs was unlike anywhere we had stayed before and we thoroughly enjoyed coffee in the morning and drinks in the evening on the covered porch with views over the sugar cane fields. The property itself is unbelievable and I can say, without a doubt, that the photos do not do this property justice. It is a lush and very well cared for estate with a huge variety of tropical plants and trees. We loved watching the local group of wild monkeys sneaking bananas in the morning outside our window and the sounds of the birds all day long. The estate is located in a central location with views all the way down to the south coast (you can see the famous Crane hotel) and to the ocean beyond. While the estate is centrally located, 15 minutes to Ostins (a must do on a Friday night for the fish fry!), 10 minutes to Bath beach (a lovely swimming area on the rougher East coast) - you feel like you are on your own in paradise. We loved going on adventures around the island in the morning and returning to the peace and quiet of Pollard Mills to spend our afternoons relaxing in the pool under the swaying palm trees. Without a doubt we would (and already have!) recommend this property to others – it would be perfect for a romantic getaway, a family trip, or a destination wedding! Linda was a great host who gave us our privacy but was always available if we had a question or needed anything. We hope to travel back to Barbados in the next year or two and, without question, would return to Pollard Mills! Enjoy this lovely piece of paradise!

Owner's Response: The review that has been posted by these guests is wonderful and I could not have written anything better myself about beautiful Pollards Mill. Emma has truly captured the magic of Pollards Mill and I always call it my little 'piece of Paradise', which is the reason I chose to live here. In addition she is correct when she says that Pollards Mill is ideally situated for visiting other areas of the island, which is something I enjoy about living here, because it is very private, peaceful with a wonderful atmosphere of calm. As much as I love going out to visit other areas of the island for entertainment, dinners out etc I am always pleased to return here to my quiet haven. Emma has taken Pollards Mill to heart as much as I have and I do hope she and her husband Ryan return here in the very near future.

A LOVELY STAY

  • 4 out of 5
What a lovely time my family and I spent at Doveoote cottage. the accommodations were clean, pretty and comfortable. Although at first I thought I would miss being close to the sea, as we had done in previous years, I soon grew to love being surrounded by the cane fields and the sound of the wind in the tress. The grounds are beautifully kept with many lovely varieties of flowers and trees. Linda was a generous host, having us for dinner in her home even! The plantation itself, is rich with island history and the parish of St Philip is one of our favourites, quiet and calm but within easy driving distance to busier areas. We would happily recommend this rental.

INCREDIBLE VALUE!!!

  • 5 out of 5
This over exceeded our expectations. The cottage is lovely, newly renovated and very well maintained. The property however, is OUT OF THIS WORLD!! Lush, manicuted gardens at every turn, flowers, sugar cane, coconut trees, fruit trees. although there were serveral of the plantation staff milling about taking care of things, it was never at the compromise of our privacy or enjoyment. Linda, Denzal and Paul were gracious hosts and were very responsive to any requests we had and were very knowledgable regarding the history of the property and the points of interest on the island. I would return to Dovecote cottage at Pollard's Mill in a heartbeat. Although Dovecote is a 3 bedroom converted carriage house, we did notice that Linda has built a brand new 1 bedroom 2 level apartment at one wing of the main estate house. It looked very lovely as well and I will consider this if returning with a smaller party.

When do you get the chance to stay on an actual sugar plantation? Book it now, you will not regret it!!!

WEEK'S STAY AT POLLARD MILLS

Week's Stay at Pollard Mills
  • 5 out of 5
Pollards Mill is a wonderful place. Beautiful, reasonably priced, exceptionally clean, quiet, safe, out-of-the-way but close-in to anything you want to see in Barbados. (You do need a rental car). The owner lives on site, but the carriage house is very private. We were warmly received, shared an evening out listening to jazz & drank wine with the owner, yet never felt that our privacy was compromised. The interior of the carriage house is tastefully appointed with soft yellow walls, white trim, soft blue gauze curtains, and tiled floors. Though there is AC, there are louvered & screened windows that let in the nice trade winds. Along with ceiling fans, we were very comfortable without the AC. The master bedroom is very large with two large closets and a sitting area. The bed was wonderful! The master bath is huge. The walk-in fully tiled shower is big enough for a small party if one were so inclined. You can drink the tap water w/o treating it. We fixed most of our meals in the kitchen (we found the fish at Payne's Bay on the west coast the best with fresh daily catches - yellow fin, flying fish, mahi-mahi, red snapper). We had plenty of cold Banks beer in the full-sized refrigerator. The living room area is part of a great room with double-dutch doors that open to a spacious patio. We spent most evenings drinking rum punch on the patio, watching the exotic birds, laughing & reminiscing about our day's adventures, and petting Murphy, the resident Black Lab. Murphy is taught to not bother visitors, but as lab owners ourselves, we adopted him for our furry friend of the week. The well-manicured grounds are open for strolling. The pool is available, though we found our trips to the beaches sufficient to meet our swimming needs. A rental car is a must. A few miles south is our favorite beach, Cave Bay. But, staying at Pollards really opens up so many great adventures on the south and east shores to picturesque beaches that are everything you would expect on a Carribean vacation. We had spent the first week in Holetown, and, though it provides easy access along the west coast using the very affordable and efficient public transportation, we found the west coast was still not inaccessible by rental car from Pollards. (We felt safer at Pollards, too. Where we used room safes and locked our doors in Holetown, we didn't feel it necessary at Pollards). In conclusion, we will stay at Pollards on our next trip to Barbados, & bring friends, without equivocation!

BEAUTIFUL

  • 5 out of 5
Pollards Mill is such a beautiful place to spend a holiday.

We arrived on a bank holiday..........LInda, Peter and Katharine had stocked the cupboard and fridge with goodies knowing we would not find a shop open.

Pollards Mill is in the REAL Barbados. The surrounding area is breath taking as are the grounds of the Mill.

The Coach House itself is tastefully decorated and very comfortable. Brilliant facilities and air con which we really appreciated.

Linda invited us into her home with open arms and made us feel very welcome. She cooked us an amazing dinner party and introduced us to many of her friends. (Linda cookes fantastic roast beef!)

While on holiday my husband was taken ill. Linda could not have done more to help us. She came armed with information of local DR, specialist name, medication from chemist to help him short term and the offer of anything we may need just ask!

The swimming pool was a peaceful haven in which to relax. Like stepping into a warm bath. Set in Pollard Mills beautiful gardens with far reaching views.

The Coach House comes with daily service.........bed making, cleaning and the feeling of being pampered by Maureen......a little angel! She always had a smile and a cheerful greeting and cleans like no other!

We visited many restaurants but good favourites were all three at The Crane (ZEN was the best), The Round House at Bathseba, and a little blue hut near Bottom Bay where 3 ladies - granny, mother and grand daughter cook up a brilliant chicken stew.

Local beaches are so pretty. Bottom bay has a couple of local guys who will rent you out a sunbed and even cook on a fire for you. They have a cool box with drinks from water through to beer. They make you feel special and spoilt.

We did tour around Barbados and go on many beaches on the Caribbean side of the Island but for us the natural beauty on the Atlantic side was fantastic.

All in all we had the most amazing visit to this beautiful Island. The local poeple are most welcoming and keen to stop for a chat.

We will definitely go back to Pollards Mill. A beautiful little haven with the most lovely hosts.

Thank you so much to LInda, Peter, Katharine, Baby Ash and the dogs for making our holiday so special.

GREAT PLACE TO STAY!

We stayed at Pollards Mill for four nights and had a wonderful time. The house was spacious, modern, and nicely renovated; the grounds were well kept and perfect for afternoon walks, and the owners were gracious. Would definitely go back!
