One bedroom apartments, sleeps 1 - 4, one with a great view of Edinburgh Castle

The accommodation is situated on the 4th (top) floor of an Art Deco building. The building is served by an elevator, resident's pool, sauna and laundrette.

Lothian House is in the City Centre with Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, the EICC Conference Centre, Princes Street, theatres, cinemas, restaurants, pubs, clubs and shopping within a short walk.

Double glazed and with central heating and solid oak flooring throughout, the apartments have one bedroom with a large double or two single beds and pure cotton bedding for your comfort. The sitting rooms have a dining area at the window. 68 faces East with a great view of the Castle and 85 faces West overlooking Fountainbridge. The sitting rooms have a double sofa bed suitable for one adult or two children. For entertainment there is large flatscreen TV, DVD player and CD / hi-fi player. 85 also has a video player with a large video library. There is free wireless internet for your laptop and both apartments have a desk / work area. There is a fully fitted and equipped kitchen area. The bathrooms have a bath tub with shower over.

The apartment may be booked for short stays from three days, prices starting at £240. During the Edinburgh Festival the minimum stay is seven nights

68 and 85 Lothian House, 124, Lothian Road, Edinburgh are self catering apartments. The apartments are on the fourth (top) floor of the block and are served by an elevator and staircase. 68 faces East overlooking Lothian Road with a good view of Edinburgh Castle. 85 faces West overlooking Fountainbridge. They are the City centre and within easy walking distance of most of the attractions and transport links. There is a residents swimming pool (heated and open all year), sauna and coin operated laundrette.

The apartment would be cleaned to a high standard for your arrival with the bed(s) made up and bathing and pool towels provided for each person. The bedroom has a choice of super king size bed or two single beds. A double sofa bed can be made up in the sitting room and a travel cot/crib and high chair can also be provided on request. The kitchen is fully equipped with hob, oven, microwave, toaster, refrigerator, kettle, dishes, utensils, pots and pans. Dishcloths, cleaning materials and basic necessities such as condiments, cooking oil, tea, coffee and sugar are provided. There are two late opening grocery stores in the block and many 'Take Away' sevices should you wish to eat in. The sitting room has a large flat screen digital T.V., DVD player, CD and tape player, radio. The bathroom has a bath with shower over and comes with shampoo, body wash, soap and toilet paper. There is free wireless internet if you bring your own laptop and a work station in the hall. The accommodation is strictly non smoking.

Lothian Road is adjacent to Princes Street and has the Lyceum, Traverse, Kings and Usher Hall theatres, The Filmhouse, Odeon cinema, pubs, clubs, restaurants and shops. The Edinburgh International Conference Centre is just around the corner.

The best of our rental experiences

Since we retired at the end of 2004 we have stayed in more than twenty vacation rental units throughout the world. We rarely write reviews as in almost all cases the units have been up to expectations. But on two occasions we wrote negative reviews which were justified.

Our stay was so much above what we expected we felt the need to say so in a review. It was not just the Diane's royal and informative welcome and immediate availability for questions. The listing description and photos were accurate: the unit was spotless, had all we needed, was extremely comfortable and as I have already said Diane was great. We have never had such a reception in any unit we have rented. And of course we must not forget the very central location. A ten minute walk to Princes St, about 20 minutes to the Castle and the Royal Mile and many restaurants nearby or not more than 10 to 15 minutes away on foot. We were able to leave our car in the garage the days we were visiting Edinburgh.

We highly recommend Diane's apartment not just to friends and relatives but to other travelers as particular as we are and anyone who wants to get a good feel for a lovely city.

Great location! Clean and bright!

What a pleasant apartment! With high ceilings and giant windows, this apartment is very bright. It was well equipped, clean and had a great gas fireplace in the living area. That may have been my favorite feature as it got chilly a few times. The location was fabulous since we were there for a conference at the International Conference Centre, which was just a few blocks away. We were near restaurants and pubs, and there wasn't much we couldn't get to within a mile. It was a great starting point for all the adventurous walking I did. The building felt very secure with a fob for the lobby entrance. I would highly recommend this apartment.

Delightful stay, great appartment, great views

We were recommended this appartment from friends who stayed there a year ago. We had a great experience from the start as Diane, the host, was great to deal with. Her communication by email was always friendly and replies were quick. She was very helpful during our stay and gave us good pointers on where to go and what to see.We arrived a bit early and were able to leave our luggage in the apartment, which was truly appreciated.

The appartment is well equipped with everything you could need including WiFi and is furnished with taste. It was clean and very comfortable. As we were there for 11 nights, Diane even came back in the middle of our stay to change all the linens (which are top rate). It is centrally located and within walking distance of all the attractions including train stations, stores, restaurants, etc.

All in all, we truly enjoyed staying in Diane's appartment and would strongly recommend her appartment to all!

Attractive, neat, comfortable, bright.

We are a family of 4, two adults and 2 children (11 and 15 years). We would happily recommend this apartment. The apartment was very clean, roomy, modern, comfortable with many books, movies, and tourist information. Our bed was so comfortable that my wife would like to buy the same for our home. The kitchen was complete having everything we needed to cook. Diane is an excellent hostess. She gave us excellent advise and help to make our stay and day trips enjoyable. Thank you for everything. Great location

Great location in Edinburgh. Just a short 2 block walk from the hop off hop on bus stop. Diane could not have been nicer. She answered all of our questions prior to our departure and the rental process went very smoothly as she is so efficient. She met us at the apartment upon our arrival and supplied us with lots of good information. It is a ways from the castle and the street are hilly but the hop on bus made it easy to get around. The apartment itself was a little small in size and had everything we needed to make our stay very comfortable. There are laundry facilities in the building which made it easy to do laundry. I would certainly recommend this apartment. We had some issues with damaged luggage and some jewelry left behind and Diane helped us resolve all of them so that we could enjoy the rest of our vacation. She went way out of her way. Thank you Diane for all of your wonderful assistance.

Nice, clean and well equipped! A pleasure to stay!

The flat is small but very nice and warm. It is full of amenities: There is even books and toys for our children, music cds, a lot of films for children and adults and plenty of tourist guides of Edinburgh both in english and in our language! The kitchen and the bathroom are very well equipped even with shampoo, hair dryer, chocolate, oil, tea, soap and delicious cookies too! The apartment is extremely clean and there isn't the typical fitted carpet on the floor.
The block is huge but not noisy at all! The location is very central: 5 min walk from Princess Street and quite close to the historical center of Edinburgh.
Diane, the landlady, is extremely nice and ready to help and to give suggestions for the stay!
This apartment is absolutely reccommended! Thank you!!

The apartment building is in Lothian Road which is in the City Centre adjacent to Princes Street. It is within easy walking distance of most of the attractions and with good transport links. There are bus stops outside Lothian House, a Taxi Rank in the next block and both Waverley and Haymarket Railway Stations are within walking distance. The Airport Bus drops off and picks up on Shandwick Place, a 7 minute walk. A City Tour Bus can be boarded at the Princes Street end of Lothian Road.

Lothian Road has the Lyceum, Traverse, Kings and Usher Hall theatres, Churches, The Filmhouse, Odeon Cinema, pubs, clubs and restaurants. The Edinburgh International Conference Centre is just around the corner on Morrison Street. Also adjacent is the Canal basin which has restaurants and canal side walks. For children there is an excellent playground at the Lothian Road end of Princes Street gardens. Going south a few minutes walk takes you to the Meadows to play ball games, golf, jog or picnic. The Meadows has many events during the year. A short walk east takes you into the historical Grassmarket with many more pubs (with live music), restaurants, speciality shops and DanceBase.

There are two late opening supermarkets (Sainsbury and Scotmid) in the ground floor of the apartment block then Tesco and Boots pharmacy in the next block. The Edinburgh Farmers Market takes place on Saturday mornings in nearby Castle Terrace.

  • The bathroom is tiled in white and grey, it has a bath with shower over, basin and WC. There is a shaver light/socket over a large mirror and plenty of shelf space on which to store your toiletries. A ladder style radiator warms and dries your towels. The bathroom comes with complimentary shampoo, body wash, bath cream, handwash, soap and toilet paper. Bath towels, hand towels, bathmat and a floor mat are provided.

There is space for a baby cot / crib which can be supplied on request. There is a large wardrobe with ample hanging and drawer space, bedside tables, lamps a radio alarm and hair dryer. The bedroom window is huge taking up most of the west wall and there are blackout curtains to keep it cool and dark during the summer.
