Our family has been vacationing in Palm Springs for four generations. There is something special about Palm Springs that continues to enchant us. Hugging the mountain on Highway 111 as we cruise into town melts our stress away and our first glimpse of the iconic mid-century modern architecture transports us to another time.

We got married in Palm Springs at the Viceroy in 2008. Since then, we have dreamed of opening a boutique hotel in Palm Springs. In early 2012, we stumbled upon this original mid-century modern Alexander butterfly roof home with its original footprint still in tact. We decided to fulfill our dream of owning a boutique hotel by carefully renovating and designing this house to provide guests with a hotel-like experience in a private home. We spent the next year carefully restoring it to its original splendor (with modern upgrades).

We are excited to offer this special property to our guests, and we hope our guests will treasure this house as much as we do.

Zach purchased this house in 2012

This house provides the quintessential Palm Springs experience: mid-century modern architecture; private pool and yard with citrus trees; mountain views; walking distance to restaurants, coffee shops, bars and more; stylish new furnishings and decor; in one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Palm Springs.

This property is truly unique because of its rare butterfly roofline, its modern, yet period-appropriate upgrades, its historical significance, its large backyard, and its orientation towards the mountain, resulting in mountain views from all bedrooms and the backyard.

Beautiful, tastefully appointed home in a quiet, upscale area. As soon as you walk in you can tell that the owners paid a lot of attention to the details. This property is quintessential Palm Springs, huge windows let in a ton of light, and the mid century furnishings and rooms were spotless.
Didn't spend the night, only needed it for the day and the owner was very accommodating to our request. Will be back next time I am in the area.

PERFECT FOR OUR FAMILY RETREAT, WE ARE MAKING THIS A YEARLY TRIP

My wife and I arranged to rent this house with our kids to have a sort of mini family reunion with my brothers and sisters. We had 3 families with us as well as our collective grandparents. The house was great. The living room fit all of us comfortably - I even have a photo with all of us sitting throughout the living room. We went for hikes nearby and just enjoyed the house. Walking the neighborhood was also a treat and seeing all the citrus trees and architecture throughout the neighborhood. With a large group we really loved the simple check in and check out procedures. The landlord was quite responsive in sending us access instructions and then responding to our questions. My family all decided to make this a yearly trip. I can tell they put a lot of time into this house as each area of the house was meticulously decorated.

Overpriced and landlord is difficult to deal with

The house looks alot larger in pictures than it does in person. I had hoped to have our wedding at the property and the owner assured me the yard could accomodate a party of 30-40 people. Thank goodness our plans changed and we decided to elope and NOT have the wedding at the property! The backyard would've never been large enough! The house is nicely decorated and IS mid century but the landlord is unpleasant to deal with after he has your money. One of the blankets got ripped while we stayed in the home and I received a nasty email from the owner after we left stating that the tile floors were left dirty and he was upset that the blanket had gotten ripped. Really? A blanket? We also paid for the damage insurance
Owner's Response: We are disappointed and shocked by this review, and encourage potential guests to read the numerous other favorable reviews and to contact us directly regarding any concern that this review may raise. By way of background, this guest informed us in summer that they wished to have their small wedding at the house on New Years Day. Over the next few months, we spent a significant amount of time and money securing (and paying for) an event permit, obtaining event insurance, providing recommendations for local wedding vendors and preparing the backyard (including resurfacing the concrete and adding extra landscaping). Although these wedding preparations cost us thousands of dollars, we charged the guests a mere $1,500 site fee. We also spent significant time and effort during the holiday season preparing the property for the wedding. Unfortunately, the guest never bothered to tell us that they had eloped and no longer planned to use the house for their wedding. While staying at the house, the guests emailed us, stating "The house is AMAZING. We love it." Unfortunately, when they left, we discovered that they had done thousands of dollars of damage to the house. When we confronted them about this damage, they responded by submitting this review. Based on our experience with these renters, we have now changed our policies and are much more selective in who we allow to stay at the house.

Cute mid-century house for a weekend stay

I stayed at this house with 5 other people over labor day weekend and we had a great time. Effort was definitely put into remodeling and decorating the house, and we enjoyed cooking meals in the open kitchen and relaxing in the pool and the backyard. The pictures in the listing accurately depict the house and yard, and everything was clean upon our arrival. All six of us were able to eat dinner at the dining table, and comfortably lounge on the couch for a Breaking Bad marathon. I always bring a few kitchen essentials with me when I stay at a rental property, but the owners have done a good job of stocking the kitchen with cooking utensils, pots, pans, dishes, etc. The wireless Bose stereo is a definite plus. I would recommend this property to others, subject to the caveats discussed below.

Some things to know:

- 6 people definitely maxed out the space in the house - I would not recommend this for a larger group unless you want to be fighting over bathroom space.

- The BBQ was out of propane and filthy when we arrived. The owner was very responsive when we called about the problem, but it still took a few hours to get the BBQ up and running after we arrived on Friday. A minor issue to be sure, but I did let the owner know that we were planning to use the BBQ prior to our arrival.

- There aren't very many towels in the house. Plan on one "pool towel" and one "bath towel" per person if you are with a group of 6. Again, a minor issue and easy enough to remedy by packing towels, but something we didn't know about in advance.

- There isn't a washing machine (at least not that we could find/access), which was fine for our four day stay but would have been an issue for a longer stay. They are remodeling the casita right now which may have affected access to the washer and dryer.

Owner's Response: Please note that a washer and dryer (located in the recently remodeled casita, which provides a fourth sleeping area, a third bathroom and additional work and lounging space) was added to this property after this guest's stay.

We had a great summer vacation at this beautiful house. No problems at all. Lot's to do within walking distance, great grocery store, Jensens, is very close. Pool and AC worked well. Beds were comfy! Nice and private backyard, would definitely stay here again.

This property is located in the highly sought after neighborhood, Twin Palms, in South Palm Springs. Twin Palms is home to the former Frank Sinatra estate and dozens of other mid-century modern homes designed by famed architects Palmer & Krisel for the Alexander Construction Company in the late 1950s (these homes are referred to as the 'Alexanders'). The neighborhood of Twin Palms is quiet and peaceful. However, restaurants, bars and coffee shops, including the Ace Hotel (which has a day spa and various evening entertainment), Kings Highway, Koffi and Elmers, are walking distance. The Smoke Tree Village Shopping Center, which has a grocery store and additional restaurants, is less than one mile away.
