Pigeonnier sleeps 2 - Sumptuous and exotic style double room with bathroom, kitchenette, dressing area, balcony and wide, unspoilt views of rolling hills. There is a dedicated seating area in the orchard for Pigeonnier guests.

Optional Catering Arrangements:

Linda grows her own vegetables and has free range chickens on hand to provide some of the necessary produce for her wonderful cooking. She uses fresh, local produce where possible.

Linda is welcoming and very flexible to your needs: Here are some options:

• A pre-prepared meal left for you to serve yourself, needing you to warm a quiche and put a selection of salads on the table – or for a more robust option, a hearty casserole left warming in the oven.

• When you are barbecuing, Linda can provide an array of salads, side dishes and desserts,

• For a special evening, enjoy the full restaurant experience at home with numerous courses - Entrée, plat, fromage, dessert – can include professional serving staff and complete clear up

• Holding a cocktail party? Linda can provide a stunning array of ‘amuse bouches’ and nibbles.

Large, light rooms with high ceilings and luxurious furniture make this a home with style and comfort. The ground floor consists of a wide entrance hall flanked on both sides with elegant large rooms, original stone floor and curved staircase to the first floor. The kitchen and dining room interconnect. Both larger than 5 metres x 5 metres they provide room for cooking and eating in style. Facilities in the kitchen include large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, cooker, plentiful cupboards and central breakfast table. The dining room has a long wide table capable of seating 12. These rooms lead to outdoor terraces to the south and west. The sitting room has a large open fireplace and leather sofas, cool in summer, warm in winter. There is a bathroom on the ground floor and utility area with a second fridge. On the first floor are three very spacious bedrooms and two bathrooms. The 2nd floor has 2 further bedrooms and a huge open attic space with games tables and TV/DVD.

Paul and I grew up close to London and have travelled around the world extensively. My husband Paul is an eminent architect. Me, I am a passionate about creating exceptional gardens. When it comes to 'projects' together we make an exciting team. This is our tenth year improving this property. We love it, care about it, stay in it when we can. Why Fiona Davis (Stephenson) chose Verfeil

It was love at first sight! From the moment we set foot in the courtyard and admired the views as well as the sheltered nature of the site we were falling in love with it.

Peering through the letter box, we could see the original stone floors of the hall and elegant stairs winding to the first floor. The solidity of the stone walls and generous proportions of the rooms within the house was such a refreshing change from all the other properties we viewed, many of which were poor quality conversions.

We chose the region because we both love France and fell in love with the friendliness, space and rolling, unspoilt countryside of the South West. The peace and tranquility as well as the ancient bastide towns from the middle ages, still in abundance drew us to this historic region.

We decided to hunt for properties in the middle of December, in order not to be seduced by lovely weather! After a week of searching we came across this one, it stole our hearts from the word go.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

The setting - views, each different, from all different rooms in the house, and all different areas of the gardens. So many of them. A south facing courtyard. Many outdoor facilities in the barns surrounding the main house - two of which are now providing further accommodation.

The sunsets, when the clouds are on the heavy side of wispy at dusk, the sunsets can be gloriously breathtaking.

The swimming pool, open from late May to mid October. 16.5 metres long means 3 lengths = 50 metres for keen swimmers. Widening to 7 metres and 1.35 metres deep throughout makes it ideal for pool games. Security gate and walls with generous lounging areas within.

The gardens, extensive, inviting and absolutely full of flowers from March to November. We have developed around 10 gardens around the property, from intimate spaces to sweeping meadows, each with its own character and each inviting itself to be enjoyed.

The location, in a hamlet with a few other house, with villages each way within a couple of kilometres, several bigger towns with weekly markets within 15 minutes drive and cities within 45 minutes.

The elegance of the house, the rooms, how it is now furnished, the gardens, the pool areas, the outdoor rooms.

Rolling hills, oak forests, dramatic gorges, historic bastide hilltop towns ancient castles, stone vernacular villages, each with its weekly market. The vineyards and châteaux of Gaillac, wine tastings and wine festivals. The region is famous for its summertime music fetes which welcome all-comers. Albi - sophisticated and historic, its vast cathedral and Toulouse Lautrec museum. Golf at Lasbordes, not crowded and, surprisingly, open to visitors. St. Antonin Noble Val - prosperous riverside medieval town with colourful, buzzing Sunday market. Kayak gently down the Aveyron to Cazals through spectacularly beautiful gorges. Cordes sur Ciel - one of the three greatest French hill town with artisan shops and famous Jardins de Paradis. Prehistoric caves, ancient castles, woodland and hillside walks, even cliff climbing if you dare! At night, the Milky Way is astoundingly clear. So many things to do, or just relax and observe the unspoilt landscape, flora and fauna all around you.

Notes

  • 30% deposit on booking and remainder due 8 weeks prior to your holiday. Cancellation charges apply. Security deposit required Euros 500. Bedding, linen and towels supplied. Additional cleaning can be provided and charged for during your stay if requested in advance. Payments by PAYPAL are charged an additional 2% (i.e. half the cost to us)

    Rates include:- Free WiFi Internet access. The pool is opened in late May and closed in late September (depending on weather), it is heated with a heat exchange unit. Free use of pool towels (please wash these at the end of your stay). End-of-stay cleaning and bed-linen laundry. It is your responsibility to leave the house as clean and tidy. An optional cleaning on the day before leaving is offered to you. If extra cleaning is needed at the end of the stay additional charges will be made.

    Rental notes: Saturday is change over day, check in from 4pm depart 10am. Negotiable on short stays except during Early Summer/Summer/Christmas.
  • Costs quoted above are for self catering arrangements.

    A private chef can be arranged for some or all of the meals during your stay. Costs for this are NOT included above. We put you in touch with the chef in advance so she can tailor your catering to your requirements ahead of your trip.

  • All the bathrooms are elegant and luxurious, with limestone walls and floors. All have spacious showers. There are three baths in the house. The luxury bathroom on the first floor of the Maison has a double shower (1.8 metre long with shower heads at both ends) and two porcelain basins, set on a black marble washstand, as well as a de luxe bath and w.c. The ground floor bathroom is sometimes allocated to the Rose Suite which gives all three major luxury bedroom suites their own private bathroom in the evenings and mornings. Usually it is used by all guests during the day. The 2nd floor bathroom services bedrooms 4 and 5 above, with bath/shower/wc and basin. The Gallery Barn bathroom is luxurious and spacious with stone basin large walk in shower and w.c. with limestone floor and walls. The Pigeonnier bathroom is exotic and luxurious with a copper basin in polished black granite washstand, large walk in shower and w.c.

  • First Floor: 3 bedrooms all 5 x 5 metres with 3 metre high ceilings. Master bedroom with dressing room and en-suite bathroom. Windows with distant views. 2 double bedrooms with French doors opening onto south facing balcony. Stone walls keep the rooms cool in summer and hold heating in winter. Large landing area with French doors. 2nd Floor: This spectacular space the 'Grenier' is 5.8 metres high, timber framed and has TV with surround sound, table football, air hockey, music system, CD and DVD library, Caram, chess, even Scalectrix for the boys who haven't quite grown up! Also 2 bedrooms (twin and triple) with Velux windows. The 14 x 8 m. attic can be set up as a large 'studio' for classroom based learning, painting or activities such as yoga for groups of up to 15 people. Gallery Barn: Separate self contained cottage sleeps four with double height galleried living room, galley kitchen. At gallery level there is a double bedroom and 2nd bedroom with bunk beds.

Notes: The property can be rented as a self catering let (as priced) or, you can book for meals to be provided. If you are interested we will put you in touch with a high quality cook, you can make arrangements and payments direct to her. A wonderful gazebo set on the edge of the meadow on the south side of the house provides an alternative outdoor space for relaxing, painting, eating, general chilling out; a large stretch of mown grass provides running space for (supervised) children. The gardens are beautifully planted in bold drifts presenting a flower show all through the year. The orchard is stocked with many fruits which you can use in the kitchens during your visit. We open the pool in May and close it in September. We eat outside often from March onwards. In autumn it usually stays warm in spells until December. In spring and summer gardens and local walks in the environs are full of wild flowers, wild orchids, and myriads of bees, butterflies and birds.

A perfect place to relax, reflect and re-energise

This is truly a very special place to stay. The location is beautiful and the accommodation is stylish, comfortable and obviously well loved and cared for by its owners. You couldn't wish for a more ideal setting and the gardens are beautifully designed. We have a teenaged son who just loves coming here - the table tennis and pool are a definite 'thumbs up' for him!! My partner and I would definitely recommend this property to others. If you're looking for a special place to relax, re- energise and re-connect, then look no further.

Cambou - A magical place to stay.

Great flight times and found a fab transfer company to take our party of 8 to Verfeil.

On arrival at the house there was a huge exhale. Clearly this was going to be a place of delight, luxury, nature, amazing views, stunning architecture and scrummy food.

The owner herself met us there, she was friendliness and kindness personified.
Nothing was too much trouble, we even got to watch her make fig jam.

The whole property was magnificent. We just loved it. Clean, well maintained all at such excellent standards.

The pool was a welcome relief to the balmy September afternoon.

We shopped in the 2 local villages and ate in the local bistro. Again just another delight.

I celebrated a birthday out there and it was THE perfect place to to do that with wonderful friends!

I would recommend this 100% to anyone wanting a lovely chilled vacation in luxury with amazing surroundings.

Thanks for the memories

The house is amazing, as are the surroundings, both near and far. Some of the local villages/towns are very picturesque and well worth visiting. The gardens are stunning with plenty of flowers of all colours, nuzzing bees and fluttering butterflies. Plenty of wonderful fruit too. I'm curious to see what the new construction, down by the river will end up as ...
So many great memories this week - swimming pool 'moments' ping-pong, darts, poker, bbq's and plenty of food and drink. Sad to leave now, but leave we must. Thanks for the memories.
PS. For what it's worth, our favourite room was the 'outdoor' playroom!

An absolute perfect haven of calm and beauty, our week in the home was magical. Sunny afternoons spent poolside, a bright, welcoming kitchen for assembling family meals from our market "finds," and plenty of space for spreading out and relaxing made for a true vacation. The surrounding villages and landscapes are enchanting, but the house is so well appointed and inviting, that we enjoyed simply staying put and taking life easy.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Families with Teenagers, Romantic Getaway
Owner's Response: It's heartwarming to see that the hard work and thought we have spent devising ways for this home to be a place which is welcoming and fulfilling to experience. Other bonuses are the clarity of the stars at night, the huge attic space and the cosy log fire in the winter.
