Santo Spirito-Piazza Pitti apartment with garden sleeps 2/4This newly-renovated apartment is located on the first floor of an old building 50 metres from Piazza Pitti. It is about 45 square metres and has the rare feature of a beautiful walled garden which, being at the back of the building, is a haven of peace and birdsong in the centre of the city.
The living room has a mezzanine floor with a double bed. On the lower level is a comfortable sofa bed and seating area, large wardrobe, desk and work area with internet connection and large window overlooking the garden.
The spacious, brand new kitchen has a traditional marble-topped table that seats four comfortably, an armchair corner and a door leading out onto the garden.
The bathroom is done out in pale stone with slate grey tiling on the floor: it is contemporary and chic and really quite large for an apartment of this size. There is a small storage room too.
There are oak floors throughout.
The garden has jasmine and antique roses climbing the walls and fresh herbs for use in your Tuscan cooking: a table and chairs provide a perfect spot for al fresco meals and aperitivi.
Although we are at present renting this apartment out, we have deliberately restored it with a view to using it as our own pied-a-terre in Florence one day, so we have not cut corners!
I am English and Luca is Florentine: I have lived in Florence since 1981. We live around the corner from the apartment just off Piazza Santo Spirito and would not want to live anywhere else. We will always be on hand to help out with any practical problems and to make sure you get the most from your stay in this beautiful city.
Nicky Swallow purchased this apartment in 2012
A garden, even a small one, is a dream in the centre of Florence: we couldn't resist!
The location of Casa Giardino is perfect: the Oltrano is the most interesting area of Florence, removed from the worst of the tourist crowds yet within easy walking distance of all the main sights and monuments. The combination of this location and the fact of having a garden to retreat to after a hard days' sightseeing is unique.
Drop whatever you're doing and book this apartment RIGHT NOW. If you are heading to Florence and only want one of the most charming places to land, this is the place for you. Among other things Casa Giardino has the most quaint garden that looks upon the observatory where Galileo made his observations. GALILEO. IN THE 1500's! Nicky (absolutely charming) was waiting for us, a chilled bottle of Prosecco in the fridge and gave us instructions. She showed us the loft sleeping area and double bed, the downstairs living area, the eat-in kitchen bath and the all important air-conditioning. Everything was very well appointed, clean and neat, warm and inviting. The location was across the river from the hordes of tourists and the sites and this suited us perfectly. The city is easily walkable and we enjoyed the stroll into town. To its every credit this is not a hotel. It is a real slice of life lived in Italy, you are separated from the hotel with its monogrammed everything, you are home. So yeah, my review is all exclamation points and such because I was blown away. Shortcomings? Not worth mentioning, nit-picky. Besides, you'll spend most of your time out in the streets. IN ITALY!
It felt like home from home, we were well received and given plenty of guidance on the local area. We followed the restaurant guide, even though I knew many of the recommendations it was evident that we would discover more culinary delights. The images on the web site are a true representation of the actual home, and both bed and sofà bed were extremely comfortable. Everything was spotless and couldn't have asked for more. I will return.
When we decided to spend two weeks in Florence we decided that we did not want to be right in the center where it is noisy, but we wanted a place still within walking distance. This gem of an apartment turned out to be just what we were looking for - away from the crowds, & yet in a district full cafes, restaurants & good food shopping! Very frequently we bought freshly made pasta just 2 blocks away!
This cozy & clean apartment has a little walled in garden which is a pleasure to relax in after a day of walking & sightseeing. But what we appreciated the most is the very well equipped kitchen (even sharp knives!) Contrary to many apartments it is a separate & spacious room. Also we have only the best to say about the friendly & very welcoming owner. If we come to Florence again we will definitely come back to this little haven!
This is a really lovely little flat perfectly placed in the centre of Florence. You are minutes walk away from the Pitti Palace, the Ponte Vecchio and other major sites yet it is deceptively quiet. The area provides countless restaurants and bars.
The flat itself is decorated to a high standard and the kitchen is very well kitted out. The gem attached to this flat is a walled garden which provides sun during the day and al fresco dining at night. Small but perfectly formed! The owner is fantastic. As a travel writer she has all the local knowledge you will need.
I will be back!
We had a perfect week in Nicky's apartment. The location is ideal--100 meters removed from the tourist crush at the Pitti Palace. Walk towards to the Arno and in less than ten minutes you're in the very center of tourist Florence. Walk ten minutes the other way and you're part of a neighborhood of Florentines with few of us tourists in sight. The apartment was clean, the kitchen was lovely and very well equipped. The finishes in the kitchen and bathroom were high quality. the loft bedroom was very comfortable (loved the mattress--looking to buy for our home) and the little "garden" outside was ideal for an afternoon aperitivo. Plenty to see and do within a fifteen minute walk--good food on Piazza Santo Spirito just 5 minute walk away. The wine bar opposite the Pitti Palace was run by serious oenophiles, and very good. The flat is perfect for a couple--would work for a couple and a child (maybe 2). But A bit tight for more than 2 adults. The owner, Nicky, is a travel writer and knows her adopted home town. She was helpful and quite punctual in meeting us. As frequent visitors to Italy we hope stay here again.
What a beautiful apartment. Hidden away behind a huge door you will find a wonderful home from home. The owner Nicky was so lovely offering lots of tips and advice about the area. The apartment has everything you might require as Nicky has thought of every eventuality. We ate in about 50 per cent of the time as we loved to visit the very nice supermarkets and choose from the huge array of italian ingredients. On leaving the building each morning it amazed us as to how close we were to several special attractions like the Pitti Palace and yet from inside the apartment it was peaceful and quiet. Wonderful garden courtyard, fabulous bathroom and really comfortable bed for a good nights sleep after all the walking. Foot bath required please!...only joking! Thank you for a delightful stay. We hope to return.
The location has to be one of the best for a visit to Florence, within an easy stroll of the major attractions and the Ponte Vecchio, without being at all noisy or busy on the actual doorstep.Quiet enough to appreciate the birdsong in the delightful walled garden, and to get an excellent nights sleep on ultra -comfortable beds after enjoying amazing, friendly Florence. Everything in the flat was in order, convenient and stylishly presented. Heating was very effective and cosy even in february, and the flat had a lovely airy feel, contemporary beautifully Italian. The listing is very accurate in all aspects, and the property extremely clean and well furnished, and the kitchen and shower were wonderful! The owner was absolutely lovely-couldn't do enough for us! I would strongly recommend to my friends (already have-so hurry and book!). Il Duomo was a delight, as was Santa Croce -amazing place- and of course the Uffizzi is full of treasures. Just walking through the nearby streets was in itself fascinating. really enjoyed our stay. Many thanks !
Our apartment is located in the Oltrarno area south of the river, a few metres from the Pitti Palace and also very close to lively Piazza Santo Spirito. This is one of the few neighbourhoods in Florence that still has a genuinely local feel. It is only metres from the tourist haunts of the Ponte Vecchio and Palazzo Pitti and yet farmers still sell produce daily in the piazza. Five minutes walk brings you to Ponte Santa Trinita across which lies chic Via Tornabuoni, the Duomo, the Uffizi gallery and Palazzo Vecchio. A five minute walk to the east through the newly-pedestrianised Piazza Pitti leads to the Ponte Vecchio. There are lots of bars, restaurants and shops of all types (from bakares to butchers to chic antique stores and quirky independent boutiques) in the area plus some of the city's most interesting sights. The Pitti museums are virtually on the doorstep, the back entrance to the Boboli gardens is just up the road, the delightful Specola museum of natural history is next door and the church of Santo Spirito, Brunelleschi's last work, is 50 metres away. There are banks, a post office, buses to the train station nearby. It's a great area to live in! This exceptional location plus the garden make our flat an ideal place for your Florence holiday.
