5 en suite bedrooms, quiet rural location, 5 minutes from town

Masion de Thym is a charming stone house, built in 2006, to a high standard and incorporating traditional local provencal features. This is a luxurious 5 bedroom family house with a large 12 x 6 metre pool and large paved areas with plenty of sun loungers.There is a covered and uncovered terrace on one side of the house and a summer house with its own chimney and terrace on the other side providing shaded areas at different times of the day.

Looking south are panoramic views of the Maures mountains and to the south west is woodland and a boules court. Inside there is a fully equipped kitchen, large sitting room and dining area on the main floor, upstairs is the master bedroom with its own balcony and downstairs there are 4 further bedrooms. The house is in a quiet rural setting and yet only 5 minutes drive from Lorgues a small town with local restaurants, shops and weekly market.

Christmas in Lorgues

I have spent many summers in the South of France over the past 40 years renting villas in all shapes and sizes, on the coast or inland, just my own family or sharing with friends. This was undoubtedly the best.

This Christmas was very important as my elder son and his family were travelling from Australia and my younger son and his family motoring down from their home in Annency. In all we were 10 - 5 grownups and 5 boys aged 8 - 14 years. I will not further describe the accommodation - just to say that the set up was perfect. The family took over the ground floor entirely and I retired to the magnificent master suite above the reception rooms. Peace and quiet!

The house was well maintained with a scruprously clean and well equipped kitchen which was essential in our case as we endeavoured to create a 'home from home' atmosphere. The location of the kitchen in relation to the sitting room was ideal and meant that the 'cook' never felt banished 'below stairs'.

Every room in the villa had an absolutely fantastic view with french doors opening out on to a terrace. It was a great pleasure in the mornings to wake up, pull the shutters back, and feast ones eyes on the rolling green hills of Provence. We were fortunate that the sun shone most days, the evenings were cool but no one cared as we gathered round a blazing log fire and either played games, or chose a dvd from the Johnson's collection or read a book picked from a well stocked bookcase on the ground floor.

Of course we did not use the swimming pool (very large), but the boys enjoyed exploring the grounds and playing boules.

Lorgues is an historic small town with a huge church. The local restaurants are friendly and the food good and reasonably priced. Market day on a Tuesday is not to be missed. There are simply loads of interesting places to visit within a few miles of the town, monesteries and chateaux which provide not only interest but wonderful walks. A day out in St. Tropez is special and only takes three quarters of an hour (in Winter).

In summary this holiday was a joy. The property is extremely well maintained and the gardienne on hand if needed - like buying a Christmas Tree in advance of our stay and recommending a good butcher to order the capons!!

I have recommended the villa to several friends and will continue to do so. Hopefully I can visit again with my family in the Summer.

The Tuesday market stretches along the main street and the cafes are all full. There are 2 supermarkets and good quality local shops. There is a great variety of restaurants within Lorgues or within a short drive. There are 2 good quality golf courses -St Endreol at La Motte and Barbaroux at Brignolles both 30 mintues drive. The local Lorgues tennis club receives visitors and there is an indoor as well as several outdoor courts. There is kayaking on the river Argens 10 minutes from the house.

On the coast there are many famous resorts such as Cannes and St Tropez as well as quieter beaches and smaller villages. North is the spectacular Gorge du Verdon (France’s own Grand Canyon) with canoeing on the Lac St Croix.
