My name is Kathy and I am a native of Duluth. I've lived and worked here most of my life, graduated from UMD and am currently at a downtown bank, where I have worked for the last 22 years. I run, play racquetball, ski and sail. I love my life and I love this home, but I was recently married and I moved to my husbands property, which is more suitable for our blended families.
Kathy Hanten purchased this house in 2007
I knew I was going to buy this property after being inside of it for less than a minute. I am in love with this home, and can't bring myself to sell it. It has the most wonderful feeling to it. I know you will love it too! It is so conveniently situated, and yet, has the feel of living in the country. It has 2 colleges and a shopping center just moments away. There are great trails within walking distance of this home, if you like being in the woods.
There is a beautiful private enclosed porch in the back of the home. I've added bamboo floors and granite countertops to the great room. Floor to ceiling windows, front and back. It really is beautiful.
The property exceeded our expectations in most regards. The main living area was very comfortable. From Black granite counter tops to comfortable couches and fireplace seating area. It was a relaxing oasis after a couple of long days skiing. The kitchen was great for preparing our gourmet meals and included everything needed. Wonderful plants and pottery decorations were neatly nestled through out the main living space. The master bedroom with full on-suite was terrific. The only down side was that the shower was a bit hard to figure out and the handle needed to be replaced as it came off once or twice. Not a deal breaker thou. Price was good for the accommodations received.
IT was a lovely home right in a neighborhood by the College. The house was very nice. The kitchen was well equiped and easy to find everything. The master bedroom was wonderful! Slept very well, I loved the screen porch even though we could not enjot it during the winter! I would have loved the hot tub to be running but do understand the time frame. Loved the big windows, the hill behind made it feel like you were way up north. I would come back and make it a girls get away for sure! Loved the pottery. Only suggestions would be to have a larger TV on the wall. Loved the cute area upstairs as well. It was great having a door up there because of the noise. We really enjoyed it thank you so much! YES I would have loved to stay longer!
We are 4 retired women who plan a "girls' trip" every fall. The house was homey and accommodating. The furnishings and decorations were lovely. This was a cut above other VRBO homes we have rented. We toured the Glensheen Mansion and split rock lighthouse near Two Harbors plus shops and restaurants in the Canal Park area. Had a wonderful visit.
We couldn't have found a more perfect base for a nostalgic return to Duluth for a family reunion. Not only were the furnishings and amenities of the highest order, it was imbued with the flavor of "the Northland", where I grew up. We wish we could have stayed longer.
We have rented through VBRO many times through the years--in London, Southern France, Santa Fe, Colorado--and we have invariably had good luck. This is our favorite rental to date. The house is, quite simply, beautiful--we fell in love with it. Although it's minutes away from downtown, it feels like you're out in nature. Everything from the dishes to the furniture is in immaculate shape. The beds are so comfortable! And Kathy is unbelievably helpful and hospitable. Since we were staying for a month, we loved that we could bring our dog up. We found the location perfect for our needs--we're hikers, and the house is a few minutes (walking) away from beautiful hiking trails in Chester Park and Hartley Park. Grocery stores are just minutes away too (driving, this time). In short, everything exceeded our high expectations--we loved our stay here so much we are already plotting a comeback.
We absolutely loved the accommodations from top to bottom, the list of praise endless. Plenty of space, beautiful main room with vaulted ceilings, great kitchen, master bed, bath. The hot tub was a savior after running a marathon. The location was convenient, yet still tucked away for privacy, escape.
The owner was very helpful. I rarely write reviews but was compelled after our week long trip.
