Your bonus is unique and breathtaking views of London's most famous landmarks from the comfort of your own seat (unlike the crowded underground). Land lovers can use the excellent DLR/Tube, Train and Bus links or the Cable Car between Excel and North Greenwich (O2).

Royal Arsenal Riverside History: In 1512, Henry VIII established a Royal Dockyard at Woolwich. His largest warship, the Henri Grâce à Dieu or the Great Harry, was built and launched here in 1514. The Arsenal, originally known as The Warren, was established as an Ordnance Storage Depot in 1671. The Royal Laboratories were added in 1696 and the Royal Brass Foundry in 1715. In 1716 Royal Artillery companies were formed by Royal Warrant. The Royal Military Academy (which has become Sandhurst) originated at the Arsenal in 1720. In 1805, King George III decreed The Warren be known as the Royal Arsenal. By this time, Woolwich was already a busy military centre. Many of the Arsenal's original buildings remain (this apartment is located in one of them), and historic artifacts are found throughout the site. The Royal Arsenal carried out armaments manufacture and explosives research for the British armed forces until it was decommissioned in 1967. For those who have an American connection, 'the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air' all came from the Royal Arsenal. All Victoria Cross medals (the highest honour in the British military) are struck from Guns residing at the 'Firepower' Museum onsite, which is believed to be the world's oldest military museum.

The Olympics & Paralympics, Royal Blackhealth Golf Club, Arsenal & Charlton Football, Henry VIII:

The Olympics & Paralympics - Our apartment/flat is perfectly situated for attending sporting events at or visiting all of the sites used for the London Olympics/Paralympics. Woolwich is the permanent home of an Olympics Live Big Screen in the town square.

Royal Golf - The world's oldest Golf Club, the Royal Blackheath is a short drive or bus ride away and welcomes visitors for rounds of golf. The club museum contains hundreds of years worth of golfing artifacts and memorabilia including the world's oldest golfing medal and England's oldest golf club. The museum is set within the stunning Eltham Lodge which was completed in 1664.

Henry VIII - Eltham Palace, Henry VIII's childhood home is across the street from Eltham Lodge and welcomes visitors. Eltham Palace was Henry VIII's favourite home.

Arsenal & Charlton Football Clubs - The Arsenal Football Club (The Gunnners) was founded in 1886 onsite and matches were played at the Dial Arch which is now a pub. Charlton Athletic Football Club is 2 miles away.

The first McDonald's in the UK opened in Woolwich, October 12, 1974.

A travelling circus or carnival often resides on the Historic Blackheath.

Visiting Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Bolelyn, the second wife of Henry VIII, is a perfect day trip by car. William Morris' Red House is nearby.

About Andrea & Tim

We are a family of 5 that loves London and fell in love with the Royal Arsenal and its rich history. We have lived and worked in London but have also spent time living and working abroad as both children and adults. We love sharing our home with guests from all over the world--many from countries in which we have lived.

Andrea & Tim purchased this apartment in 2010
Why Andrea & Tim chose Greenwich

The Royal Arsenal provides the unique experience of living a modern life in surroundings where the entire history of the United Kingdom has evolved...and much of the world. The view and ambiance created by the flat's positioning, outlook and period features makes staying here a one-of-a-kind experience. You can stay in a 'new build' anywhere but no other location in London affords the opportunity to stay in a building/development that influenced the history of the world in such a profound way. For example, as mentioned in America's national anthem, 'the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air' all came from the Royal Arsenal--examples of which are on display at the Firepower Museum. This property is spacious and perfect for families (groups) ---particularly those with 3 or more kids, like ourselves. We believe families and friends should be able to holiday together and not be split up in order to be charged extra for an additional hotel room. In addition, its location in the Royal Arsenal itself is unique. It's the type of place that makes you want to just stay 'home', play games and watch movies together. My husband and I love to sit at the kitchen table in the morning with the sun streaming in and read the paper while looking out over the courtyard and the amazing history that surrounds us. The kids love that there is enough room to play Twister, watch movies or retreat to their own spaces with their electronic devices. The grocery store-Tesco's, Dial Arch Pub, Firepower Museum & Greenwich Heritage Centre, Thames River Walk, Woolwich Town Centre and Community Swimming Pool are just out the gate or a stone's throw away. The travel links are superb to ANYWHERE in London (DLR/Tube, Train, Thames Clipper, London City Airport & Bus)--with more options and convenience than any other location in London--even more so when CrossRail is completed.

What makes this apartment unique

Our view, location and ambiance are unique within the Royal Arsenal and the flat is very spacious--unlike most for let in London. It is easy and comfortable to get anywhere in London whether Central, East, West, North or South. You can travel by Thames Clipper, train or DLR/Tube to anywhere in London. Everything you'll need to make your stay comfortable is either in the flat or can be easily obtained within the Royal Arsenal, or in the shopping centre just across the road from the Royal Arsenal Development.

A Wonderful Home Away From Home

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 28 February 2013 Date of Stay: February 2013
I cannot say enough about how much I enjoyed my time at the Royal Arsenal flat. It is everthing described and more. The flat is much larger and brighter than it shows in the pictures, and all of its amenities are top notch. It is immaculately clean and has all the mod con's you can want. The RA location though much further out of Central London than I have ever been was originally a concern for me, but my concern proved to be unfounded. It was very easy to get around via the DLR or using the Thames Clipper that was literally steps away from the flat. Andrea was absolutely wonderful to work with and I am so happy to have found this flat for my vacation. Should I return to London, I would love to stay at RA again. It was a fantastic respite after a hectic day of sightseeing! I would highly recommend this flat to anyone, you would not be disappointed.

London Weekend

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 10 January 2013 Date of Stay: November 2012
We spent a wonderful long weekend at the Royal Arsenal. The apartment is really great for a family and we felt immediately at home. We were traveling with two teenage boys and they were very happy with the space they had (and loved the Wallace and Gromit videos). It is extremely convenient to City Airport and we were able to take the train from the airport to the apartment in less than 15 minutes. We used the Thames Clippers everyday to get into London and we were always happy to get back to the quiet Royal Arsenal. We did eat at the onsite restaurant Friday night which was very, very good (Attention - no children after 8pm). We also used the convenience store to buy a few breakfast items. It could not have been more convenient. On Saturday we rode the boat in and did a bike tour of historic London followed by a large late lunch in London and then ordered take-out Chinese from one of the many menus provided at the apartment. Sunday we visited the Brick Lane market in London - fabulous! We rode the boat back and then made our way to the 02 where we visited the Music experience and then the highlight of the weekend was seeing the Rolling Stones concert. Thank you Andrea for making it all go so smooth.

Excellent location for a exploration of London

4 out of 5
Review Submitted: 09 January 2013 Date of Stay: January 2013
The apartment is fully in line with what the pictures show. A large living room, a well equipped kitchen, two separate bedrooms and two bathrooms, each of which are well furnished. Serves 4 excellent but certainly also 6 persons. The apartment is part of a beautiful complex located on the Thames with secure parking on site and nearby a welcoming pub. The station - starting point for the DLR and trains to the center - is a 10-minute walk away. The quay where the Thames Clipper docks is even less than 200 meters. It takes about half an hour with train or boat to come from the apartment to the center. So you have the best of both worlds: the dynamics of the city with the rest of the suburb Woolwich. It also gives the visitor a complete picture of the diversity of London, especially if you are on the way to the city center willing to have stops and take a look at sites like Greenwich, the O2 and docklands.

What an amazing find!

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 05 October 2012 Date of Stay: September 2012
The apartment is modern, stylish clean and very spacious with everything you could wish to find (and more) in your own home, slept 7 with ease.
In a nice quite, safe haven the appartment had a gated entrance and secure car parking.
We visited London for the final weekend of the Paralympics to watch the wheelchair basketball in the 02 arena. With just a 5 minute walk to the clipper ferry which ran twice every hour we managed to get to the arena in about a 10 minute journey.
The second day we headed into the city to watch the wheelchair marathon. A 10 minute walk away is the DLR which we found very easy to use with a direct line to the Olympic park and one easy change to the city. After a very busy day in the city it was nice to come back to relax and chill.
Andrea was very helpful; my never ending requests were answered very promptly. I would definitely recommend the Royal Arsenal to anyone and would definitely stay here again if we plan another London trip

Thank you Andrea for sharing your wonderful apartment with us Ann and family

Our stay was absolutely delightful! The flat is a corner, top-floor flat and is very spacious and bright. You can look out the windows to the Thames River and upon lovely historic buildings. It is located in the most exclusive, historic and unique gated part of the Royal Arsenal, one that is not accessible unless you are staying there and is therefore very quiet and private—yet completely convenient for public transport-London sites, the Dial Arch Pub, Tesco’s, museum, shopping, restaurants and all of the amenities that the area provides. We were very glad we picked this flat now having seen where others are located in the more busy areas of the Arsenal with passing foot, motor traffic and no view. The accommodations provide all the modern comforts of home (huge refrigerator) and we easily travelled to locations all over London: Kew Gardens, Buckingham Palace, The Tower of London, London Eye, etc. The truth be told…a couple of days we decided to just stay “home” and enjoy the atmosphere and surroundings of the flat---we didn’t want to leave! Thank you, Andrea, for your hospitality and your wonderful customer service—we’ll be back! Travelers, the State of Washington USA
Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind reflections. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay.

We too love our special location within the Royal Arsenal and how easy it is to get to, and enjoy, all that London has to offer via the Thames Clipper, DLR/Tube, Train or Bus.

We look forward to welcoming you back! Andrea
