A hidden gem

This was our third fantastic stay at Gulls Cry. This truly is a great destination for families as all you have to do is walk a few steps or so and you are on the beach. This year we had fabulous weather which meant we never had to venture far but to be honest you don't need to. The village has everything you need for a seaside holiday - beach, beach shop, bakery, Chinese takeaway, fish and chip shop, three pubs and a small supermarket (with a Tesco roughly 3 miles away in Redruth). For those who wish to explore you are never far from a new beach or the various attractions the area has to offer. We enjoyed visits to St Ives,Truro and The Eden Project.
The bungalow itself is well presented and has everything you need for your break. The owners are very friendly and always willing to help. We would recommend Gulls Cry to anyone and are looking forward to our 4th visit in August 2013.

We have all thoroughly enjoyed our week at Gulls Cry. The bungalow is excellent with everything we neede and more. A superb location, the girls loved being so close to the beach and Portreath has been a great base from which we have explored Cornwall.

Body Boarding

  • 4 out of 5
  • Review Submitted: 24-Aug-2010
  • Date of Stay: Aug 2010
A nice modern property with everything we needed for our break. The owners next door were friendly and helpful. You can on sunny days sit outside and eat alfresco enjoying the sea views. The property is very close to the beach so many hours were spent on the beach enjoying the surf. Having never body boarded before, with the loan of a couple of boards from the owners we were away. Exhilarating!! The proximity of the beach meant the children 9 and 6 could go down by themselves to explore which they found very exciting. It was reassuring that the beach had a Lifeguard on duty at peak times. We could also come back to the property to eat which saves those gritty sandwiches. Portreath itself is a small village there are a couple of public houses and we had a lovely Sunday roast at The Portreath Arms. The Crab Picker was also nice, the owners could not do enough for you very hospitable. The weather whilst not always favourable did not deter as there was lots to do, you are a short drive away from St Ives, St Agnes and Godrevy where we went seal spotting. Strongly recommended for your holiday, the children would have stayed on!!

Sunny Break

  • 4 out of 5
  • Review Submitted: 08-Jun-2010
  • Date of Stay: May 2010
This was a break away for me, my cousin and our three children who are 8, 9 and 15.The bungalow is so close to the beach we could pop back to make coffee or collect the lunch so we didn't have to worry about warm sandwiches. It was clean and modern inside with fantastic views of the beach and surrounding hills with everything that was needed and more. The owners took time to put DVD's in the property that fit the age of the children and were friendly pleasant people. We had fantastic weather and spent most time on the beach but it is well positioned to travel to other areas of cornwall on day trips and there is a good costal path for walkers/hikers. I would defiantly recommend this as a holiday destination.
