Derrynane Harbour is located on the Ring of Kerry, between the villages of Caherdaniel and Waterville. Derrynane is best known for its National Park, its Blue Flag beach more than one mile in length and the harbour which has a watersports centre. A boat departs from Derrynane Harbour for the Skellig Islands, site of a 6th century monastery and a bird sanctuary and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Derrynane is situated near the western tip of the Iveragh Peninsula in south west Kerry. Derrynane was the home of Daniel O'Connell, known in Ireland as 'The Liberator' for winning Catholic emancipation in the mid 19th century. Caherdaniel, which lies on the Ring of Kerry, is a small, pretty village with two atmospheric pubs, and an ancient ring fort. The Kerry Way walking trail passes through Caherdaniel, and gives walkers fantastic views of Derrynane Bay, Derrynane Harbour and the Beara Peninsula.
