A lovely week at Woodside Cottage

  • 5 out of 5
It was evident upon arrival that the owners Brian and Alison take great pride in their cottage. We were greeted with a lovely, clean and well furnished cottage which has all the amenities you require and lots of little extras. The cottage is ideally located alongside a couple of other cottages to explore the Southern Lakes. There was lots of local information available in the cottage outlining walks, restaurants and other places of interest, we made use of this information and had a couple of lovely meals at the Swan at Newby Bridge and went on a lovely walk to High Dam which is a gentle walk away. We stayed in for a number of nights In a very relaxing cottage with Sky available to record any program you wanted to catchup on. Brian phoned us early on in our stay to make sure everything was okay and this made us feel that somebody was looking out for us having a good week. I have no hesitation in recommending this lovely cottage for those looking to have a nice break in the lakes with or without a dog.

Just marvellous!

Having been wowed by the photos of this cottage on Trip Advisor, I knew I just had to book a stay: it's even better than the photographs.

The cottage is delightful, spotlessly clean and incredibly well stocked and furnished and truly a home from home. Fantastic location, beautifully peaceful and just a glorious get-away.

The owners truly have thought of absolutely everything you could possibly need for a break away even down to the pint of milk and the welcome bottle of wine in the fridge upon our arrival. I wouldn't hesitate to come back and am now looking at when I can do so!

What a perfect retreat. Everything was as described and more. We had two teenagers, a 10 year old and a 4 year old plus 2 dogs and it was a perfect family holiday. We arrived slightly early, and arrived to a tray of biscuits and tea, plus a bottle of wine which we drank waiting for our Tesco order to arrive. The detailed list and instructions given by the owners in advance was accurate. The location was on the door step to one of the most beautiful walks EVER - High Dam, and in the other direction was the fantastic Lakeside Boat where you can get to other parts of this beautiful area without needing a car. The facilities within the cottage were as described, and you don't need to take much with you as there is a useful washer and dryer. The property was very clean and well maintained. The owners provided an excellent before, during and after customer service. We will be booking again, and recommending this cottage to friends. Thank you for a memorable holiday, which will remain in our hearts forever.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for taking the time to write a review. We are so pleased you found Woodside to be accurately described and that you enjoyed the cottage facilities. Our local walk, High Dam is a very special walk and favoured by Alfred Wainwright, high praise indeed!
We look forward to welcoming you back to Woodside.

Woodside Cottage - A pleasure to recommend!

  • 5 out of 5
Oh so comfortable, immaculately clean Woodside Cottage exceeded our expectations on most levels. The attractive, modern kitchen is very well equipped including enough cutlery, crockery and glassware to serve a small army. The beds in the really charming bedrooms are comfortable. The living room is pretty but under furnished. If more than 3 people are staying, an armchair or two would be a welcome addition.

FYI to fellow Canadians, the 'cottage' is actually a vintage townhouse - one in a row of 5 or 6 attached houses. The neighbours are friendly.

Owner, Alison, could not have been more helpful. A delight to deal with!

Beautiful

  • 5 out of 5
We stayed for 3 nights after the new year, 2 couples 2 children and 2 dogs. The cottage is beautiful, far exceeding our expectations. Woodside has a lovely decor, spotlessly clean and lovely and cosy of a night sitting in front of the log fire. The cottage is very well equipped, there wasn't anything that we needed that wasn't there and the welcome hamper was very much appreciated. The area is lovely, we found plenty to do and as remarked on in a previous review the high dam is a must if you like to walk, its a good one! There are few places I would say I would definitely return to, but Woodside for me is one of the nicest places we have stayed and will without a shadow of a doubt return.
