About Carol McSwain

Having loved Colorado from the very first time my family and I visited when I was just a young girl, I knew then, that Colorado was where I wanted to live when I grew up. And so, at the age of 20, over 40 years ago, I moved to the place of my dreams.

When my mother would come to visit me during the summers, Estes Park was one place that she wanted to visit each year. Her love of the mountains, especially the charm of Estes Park and the peaceful serenity and beauty the mountains especially Rocky Mountain National Park is something that we both shared. Which is the reason, when I had the chance to purchase Two Pines on Shady Lane, I felt this was one opportunity I just couldn't pass up.

My family and I love to visit Estes Park whenever we can. We love our home and the close proximity to Rocky Mountain National Park not to mention the beauty that surrounds this magical place. This a perfect vacation spot for my family and I believe you will find it to be even better than what you expected as soon as you enter Two Pines on Shady lane.

Carol McSwain purchased this house in 2012

What makes this house unique

Located on one of several migration paths of the elk, hundreds of which pass through this cozy lane. Elk and deer graze in and around Two Pines and often spend the afternoon resting in the yard. Located just one block off the Peak to Peak Scenic Highway. Here is some of the most picturesque scenery in the world. Two Pines offers all the comforts of home with plenty of room for everyone. This home can easily accommodate up to 8 guests comfortably.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We traveled from Tennessee to enjoy the scenery, the climate and hiking with our daughter and son-in-law and 2 grandchildren. At Two Pines we appreciated the fact that you offer a discount to returning guests. The grandkids had a great time and we enjoyed making memories with them. The activities we enjoyed the most were hiking, shopping and the fireworks on the 4th of July.

Tips to future guests: stop and smell the roses!

Our special message to the host: Thank you for sharing your lovely rental home with us. You have done such a great job in decorating it and making it such a wonderful place to stay. Loved your sconces in the entryway. Saw them at Wynbrier home and got them but had them shipped back to TN.

Comfortable, very clean home in Estes Park

  • 5 out of 5
My family of four stayed here in October and had the most lovely time. The house is situated just around the corner from the downtown area of Estes Park, so it was the perfect distance to be able to pop in for meals and entertainment, but avoid the congestion and noise of the busy streets. We have stayed in many vacation homes, and Two Pines was by far the cleanest place we've ever stayed! The owner has set the standards very high in this beautiful home, and you will not be disappointed. We did not have to stop at the store for anything ... the kitchen was stocked with every necessity you could need and there were even dates written on the food items in the pantry. The master bed was so incredibly comfortable and my two daughters enjoyed having their own rooms. We had one rainy day that kept us indoors and no one complained once. With the fireplace going, games and movies to choose from, and the charming old-fashioned popcorn machine downstairs, we actually enjoyed staying in! Elk and deer wandered around the property like neighbors. You will not be disappointed with Two Pines on Shady Lane ... it was the perfect spot for our busy family to reconnect and spend some much needed down time. Thank you for a true "home away from home!"

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your glowing review! My housekeepers are top-notch and after reading your review, will probably be asking for a raise. As the owner Two Pines, my standards are very high. I want Two Pines to be even better than my own home so that when my guests walk in they will know without a doubt, that they made the right choice and were glad that they made my home, their home away from home and will want to come back to stay for their next vacation in Estes. Thank you again for such a wonderful review. We look forward to having you and your family as our guests next time you vacation in our charming town.

Beautifully Decorated Home

  • 4 out of 5
My wife and I loved the beautiful interior of this home. It was stocked with everything we could possibly need for our 3 day stay. I really cant say enough about the interior of this home and how much we both loved it. The location was convieniently located, especially since we had a car. However, I can only give this home a rating of good, not excellent, because the home's neighborhood, and the lack of comfortable outdoor space.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. It is especially nice to know that you found our home to be comfortable and beautifully decorated in every way, however, I am sorry that you found the neighborhood not quite what you had hoped and my yard lacking in comfortable outdoor space. My home is located in the very desirable One Thousand Pines neighborhood with several medium to large year-around homes and some smaller summer-only cabins. Not at all atypical for our mountain communities. Although there are a few neighborhoods where you will find some manicured lawns, because of the abundance of wildlife, the landscaping for most homes in the mountains is what I would call "mountain natural", with wildflowers, natural grasses, rock outcroppings and lots of trees.
On the front of my home is a wrap-around deck with two tables and six chairs. In my backyard, not only do I offer my guests a large combination gas/charcoal barbecue grill, I have an extra long picnic table for large parties, a fire pit with surround seating, and at least 12 to 15 folding chairs, both regular and lounge, in the garage. All of which are easily accessible. (Because of the winds that the mountains are famous for, I do not keep light weight outdoor chairs outside because they tend to get blown away, which is the reason I keep them in the garage.)
Again, I am sorry that you found my outdoor space less than expected. We have worked extremely hard to make our home, both inside and outside, as comfortable for our guests as possible. We appreciate our guests and do take any constructive criticism to heart. Should you book with us again in the future, we will try to make every effort to make sure that our outdoor space is not lacking in comfort for you, as well as, our other future guests. Thank you again for your review.

Estes Park vacation

  • 5 out of 5
The house is very comfortable with a kitchen to die for. When we travel, we cook in much of the time. Every thing we needed was there. The house is near town and close to everything. We could not have asked for a better place.

This was a great place to stay. Everything needed was there, coffee pot, spices, you name it and it was there. My family and my daughter and husband and two kids were very comfortable for us. The chairs, furnishing were excellent. The cable TV worked and it was very homey and inviting. We loved it and plan on going back the next time we are in Estes Park. Thanks for everything Carol. You were great!

COMFORTABLE! BEAUTIFUL!

  • 5 out of 5
What a wonderful place to stay! My 2 brothers & their wives and my husband & I rented Two Pines and we could not have been happier anywhere else! This home was very comfortable and we felt right at home. It had all the modern conveniences that we needed. From white soft towels to a beautiful stocked kitchen to very comfortable beds. We loved sitting on the porch looking for birds, deer & elk. We even saw a badger! It was also wonderful after a full day of hiking or shopping to come back to a comfortable place and relax! My sister-in-law said it was "THE BEST VACATION EVER"! Thank you soooo very much Carol!
