Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Istanbul - Verystanbul
luxury house for 6 persons in Central Istanbul, with terrace and yard.

You will enjoy this beautiful and comfy house, located in the Very Heart of Istanbul, along the famous Golden Horn. At the crossroads of the former Jewish quarter and pious Carsamba, Fener's district attracts by its architectural elegance and a concentration, unique in Istanbul, of ancient bow-windowed mansions, under UNESCO and EU gentrification. Up this street, Verystanbul is one of the prettiest houses of this area.

Brand new, with all the modern comfort, Verystanbul is more like a private and elegant home, than a classical guest house : arty furniture, large bedrooms with ancient wood ceilings and gounds, large stairs and lots of light, modern and beautiful bathrooms. The house, frontpage of the fanciest deco turkish magazine, offers every facility you need: fully equiped kitchen, beautiful linen, wifi, TV and DVD player, MP3 music etc...

Though very central, the district is not overwhelmed by tourists and shelters all sorts of little shops, cafes and a wonderful organic market.

Located in Europe along the famous Golden Horn , Fener' s district once sheltered the Greek stanbuly community. This very central and typical district attracts by its architectural elegance and a concentration, unique in Istanbul, of ancient bow-windowed mansions. Up this street, Verystanbul, is one of the prettiest houses of this area, under UNESCO and EU gentrification project.

Fener and the banks of the enchanting Golden Horn, its lovely harbour, lawns, restaurants and children games draw you into the fascinating heart of Istanbul, its history and countless monuments as The Greek Patriarchy, the Greek High School, the Bulgarian Church and fabulous byzantine mosaics in the church of Chora. Very close, by boat, foot or car, from the historical centre of Sultanahmet (Blue Mosque, Saint-Sophie, Palace of Topkap?, etc), and of Taksim, with the 'western' boutiques and its cheerful night life.

This is a newly renovated home which has been beautifully furnished with care and attention to detail. Clean and comfortable and rooms, bathrooms and a spacious terrace made it easy for us to feel at home.

We spent two memorable evenings with Pascal, the friendly landlord, who provided us with numerous pieces of advice on Istanbul as well as background information. Our two kids took their “new friend Pascal” quickly into their hearts.

Fener is a traditional and authentic district of Istanbul off the beaten track but is easily accessible from the tourist hot-spots by ferry or bus.

Good choice – we would not hesitate to come back!

Two couples visited Verystanbul for an extended weekend trip. We spend a lot of time in choosing our accommodation and appreciate authentic location and stylish properties. We also expect good value for our money. Verystanbul certainly has them all. We can sincerely recommend this holiday rental.

Lovely property if you're fit!

Bad start - my partners flight was delayed... and it was very difficult trying to explain this to the chap who was to grant us access to the property, he didn't speak English.

Anyway we got in a taxi eventually - and it took for ever to find it, even the locals didn't seem to know where it was. We got there in the end.

It is a very local (and religious) neighbourhood - this had plusses and minuses (finally found an off license, the local eateries/take aways cheap but v limited). And the hill... OMG! We stayed in most nights as wouldn't have fancied tackling it in the dark after beers!

Local taxis generally wouldn't go up or down the hill so we were frequently booted out at the bottom somewhat unceremoniously!

Positives - it is a really lovely property, tastefully furnished and with everything you need. The neighbourhood is interesting and I enjoyed seeing a different side of life - once I got used to it! It is an area in the early stages of renewal and I liked this. Local shop keepers were generally charming.

Tips to the owners:
- expand the info pack to really help people acclimatise e.g. location of nearest bar/off licence/hammam for women (I nearly had a nasty surprise!); local bus timetables/routes; eateries and recommendations; more explicit directions for taxi drivers
- Freely available netbook/PC for visitors to use to get online

Over all good VFM and a different experience.

charming house, very quiet area

Review Submitted: 01 November 2011 Date of Stay: October 2011
This is a lovely well equipped house but you need to weigh up the pros and cons of staying there vis a vis its location. The area of Fener is delightfully real traditional Istanbul, no swanky cafes and restaurants in the local area, in fact anything above a snack is hard to find unless you make it onto the main road where very simple Turkish fare prevails. However the locals are by and large charming and friendly, but it helps enormously if you can speak some Turkish here. If you have only a few days in Istanbul I would suggest try a different area, if you are a seasoned visitor then it is great to see a different area, just don't expect it to be geared to tourists, it isn't.
Also, if you are a dab hand at using your iphone to guide you to locations it will come in handy here - taxi drivers need directions.
Also remember the area is dry.

Exceptional! Verystanbul holds our heart

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 21 August 2011 Date of Stay: July 2011
My husband and I stayed at Verystanbul for 10 days, with our daughter and son-in-law joining us for a portion of the time. For all of us, staying in the Fener neighborhood, in this beautifully appointed home was a top highlight of our nearly four week trip in Turkey. This proved to be the perfect location from which to explore the city. We took a walking tour (Rick Steve's Istanbul) starting at the house - we were able to scale the ancient city wall (greatly surprised be the fantastic panoramic view), tour the Chora Church and the Patriarchal Cathedral Church of St. George (headquarters for the Greek Orthodox Church), and saw many, many other interesting sights. From the house, we took many walks down along the Golden Horn. Down on the main road we easily caught the bus or a taxi to take us into the main tourist area.
As much as we loved seeing the main sights of the city, what won our heart is the very neighborhood in which Verystanbul is located: the beautiful, hospitable people, the wonderful little cafes, bakeries, restaurants, and shops down on Vodina, the street vendors that come by the front door with vegetables and bread, the children playing in the street, and so much more.
As for Verystanbul, it is equipped with everything you could possibly need. Beatrice has thought of everything! The bedrooms are particularly beautiful and we loved spending evenings and mornings outside on the third floor terrace. The wifi connection was superb and worked without a hitch. The only thing we would do differently next time is to be sure we have an international cell phone plan so that we can use our phone in case of an emergency. Also, for travelers coming in the hot months, be prepared for very warm nights. Every room is wonderfully equipped with a ceiling fan, but inside temperatures were regularly over 90 degrees in the upper floors. We could not have been happier with our choice of staying at Verystanbul and hope that someday we can return.
