Nowhere else in the world is there a town that has remained virtually untouched for over 400 years. The quaint town of St. George is Bermuda's oldest parish founded in 1612. Filled with rich history, natural beauty, and minutes from the airport, the town of St. George has something to offer for everyone. In 2000 the town of St. George was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List. Nearly all of the buildings are in their original condition. The historic buildings function not only as museums but also as houses, restaurants, pubs and shops. St. George is also home to the oldest surviving Anglican church in the Western hemisphere, St. Peter’s church, which can be toured daily for free. At its center lies King's Square, surrounded by the Town Hall and the Visitors Service Bureau. There are replica stocks in the Square, and also a ducking stool, a replica of one that was once used to dump gossiping women into the harbor. Nowadays, local volunteers recreate this punishment as well as celebrate Bermudian culture on Harbor Nights every Tuesday night in King’s Square. King’s Square also houses a replica of the Deliverance (one of the two ships built by the first shipwrecked settlers), and a life-size bronze statue of their commander, Sir George Somers. Other historic sites to tour include the ever popular Unfinished Cathedral, Somer’s Garden, Tucker House Museum, Bermuda National Trust Museum, and St. George’s Historical Society Museum.
