Peacefull 3 bed, 3 bath, village farmhouse, sleeps 6, in the 7 Vallees Ternois

Immaculate, newly restored farmhouse in the village of Teneur, set in the picturesque region of the Seven Valleys of the Ternois. The farmhouse sleeps six in two double bedrooms (one with en suite shower room) and one twin bedroom, with a further separate bathroom, plus a ground floor shower room with wc. The house is very spacious with large kitchen diner, utility room, lounge with gallery and a further formal dining room. Original exposed beams and huge fireplaces with wood burning stoves (in addition to central heating) create a very cosy, welcoming atmosphere. Outside there are terraces to sit and relax on all round the back of the house and a large patio with BBQ, outside dining table and chairs, sun loungers and parasols. The garden is one acre of secluded lawn and a scattering of trees, it is peaceful and not overlooked. There is parking for several cars on the driveway alongside the house.

The location is an ideal base for walking and cycling (two national French cycle routes run through Teneur) in the Seven Valleys area and for trips to the fabulous beaches of the Opal Coast covering, Le Touquet with its chic shops and restaurants, Stella Plage and Fort Mahon - ideal for young children. From the house, there are riverside walks and extensive tracks in the Hesdin Forest. Very good local shops at Anvin, just six miles away. Within 25 miles, visit the historic walled town of Montreuil , the lovely historic city of Arras, the museum and battlefields of Agincourt and for the younger visitors there are Dennlys Parc (8 miles) and the Bagatelle (30 miles) theme parks. We especially recommend a day trip to the coast on the St. Valery steam railway and the beautiful rose gardens and grounds of the ancient Abbey at Valloires and visit the Watermill restaurant in the valley of the Authie. The kids will also love the water parks at Le Touquet and Nausicca Water World at Boulogne.

..we spent Christmas here, and was voted the best ever by the family.. what a truly wonderful place.. log fires; snowmen; gourmet kitchen; beams; all mod cons; peace and quiet.... for the busy life style of today, this is a little piece of heaven...Agincourt is 2 miles away.. Carrefour for all those bottles of claret and stinky chees is found at Fruges...walking abounds; friendly village dogs; inky dark nights... heaven indeed....would say to anybody looking for a few days of complete silence.. GO!!! [..there is BBC satellite though if on hankers after Newsnight..]Wonderful memories..
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

A Wonderful Retreat

We've stayed here twice now and what a wonderful place to stay. A lovely old house, lovingly restored with a warm homely feel. John made us feel incredibly welcome and was very helpful. I can't rate this house highly enough. If you choose to stay here you'll not regret it.

Our stay at Chante Cler was very relaxing, the farmhouse was large enough for us all, and had everything we needed. There was no bbq , and only two bikes , but we needed none of these , and John was willing to buy a bbq if we needed one.
John was staying in the annexe , and that was fine with us, he did not interfere, was helpful and always happy to have a chat if we wanted to.
there are not too many restraunts in the area, so are car was almost essential if we needed to eat out, but we knew this , and it was a delight to be so quiet.
The old barn was being removed by John while we were there, but it was not a problem , and did not spoil our time there.
All in all we had a great time , and thank John for letting us use his property.
We would use this house again , as it fitted all our needs.

A GOOD STAY

In general agreement with the reviews already made. However it should be recorded that any comparison with the listing description should take into account thaty there are several inaccuracies. The barn next door has been demolished leaving a rather ugly site and the garage is derelict. We understand that this part of the site is to be sold and another property built there. The drive is still there but covered in broken tiles that caused a car tyre to puncture. The washing machine was broken and the stove hob cracked. "Comfy seating" in the living room was limited to a single armchair andf a small three piece sofa. No CD player available and only two bikes could be found. Mixer tap in kitchen was broken. No sign of outside barbnecue or grill gas but since the weather was so awful they may have been put away (we did not ask). Various aspects needed a thorough clean on our departure (not because of our activities!) including shower facilities and windows. This review is not intended as a criticism of an enjoyable and very good value stay or of the helpful owner but rather as a guide to changes that could make this gite superb.

Most of the issues you raise have already been addressed: The barn next door was unsightly, however most of it has been removed now and the site cleared. I driveway has not caused any problems for many years and we have inspected it carefully for sharp objects - all seems fine. The washing machine is not broken and functions perfectly - one switch requires a 'knack' to use and if you had used the machine, I'm sure you would have found it fine. Equally, the stove hob functions perfectly even with it's small crack to the corner of the base glass. There are only two bikes and I have corrected the HomeAway listing - that was a previous oversight. The mixer tap in the kitchen has been repaired - thank you for letting us know. A BBQ is indeed available , just put away out of sight as you suspected. As regards cleaning, we strive to prepare the house to a high standard and have not had any issues raised in the past, however we will take your comments on board and make sure our high standards are always maintained.

What a fantastic Christmas we have just spent in "Chante Cler", the Farmhouse is perfect, clean, modern and so warm and cosy with the log fires burning, the garden is stunning and the snow just set the scene, We enjoyed our last evening spent with John eating French cheeses and wine and meeting Janine was our pleasure, such a lovely lady, Thank you "Chante Cler" we will be back!
