Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed at the windy hill house in off-season with friends of mine and it was absolutely fantastic. You feel the true island vibe and the beauty of the island. We loved seeing the yellow finches every morning coming to drink their sugar water. The home is decorated West Indies and we loved it.The kitchen is open and modern which is in the main living area. The bathrooms are all in tiled and the showers are all true walk-ins. The house has a spectacular view of Tortola, and the Sir Francis Drake channel. All of the nearby beaches are 3-5 min away, couldn't be in a better location. We cooked a lot , but if you want to go out there are great restaurants 5 mins down the road in Spanish town and up by the Coppermine. Joleen was great! She is very accommodating to all of our needs and gave us the lay of the island.

We will be back again next year. Great trip!!!!!!

I shouldn't be writing this right now... Why you ask? Because I don't want the secret to get out! This house is amazing. Just perfectly set up. My husband and 2 children have visited Virgin Gorda by boat to see the baths only. So, when we had a few extra days for a new adventure, we headed over by ferry. Joleen picked us up at the ferry dock and brought us to the house. She even had a car for us to rent directly from her!

Since there is no crime on the island, you keep the house entirely open. All of the doors (except the bedrooms) are kept wide open all day and all night. There are bugs. Mosquitos. Lots of them. Wear bug spray. Just part of it. But, we were out all day long, at the beaches, exploring the island. So big deal. The bedrooms have nice cool AC units in them so sleeping is not a problem. It's perfect.

We will be back. You couldn't keep us away!

Wonderful stay and World Class Hostess!

  • 5 out of 5
We have stayed in this property from May 10 through May 17 of 2014 and we had a wonderful experience! Joleen is a world class hostess and knows everything about the island! Our vacation week was a memorable one thanks to her recommendations. We also felt in love with the house – perfectly located and beautifully decorated! This is the best experience we had with vacation rentals and we will certainly recommend her house to friends (and hopefully we will have a chance to return). Thank you Joleen!

Fantastic Villa with spectacular views and wonderful helpful owner!

  • 5 out of 5
My wife and I spent 8 incredible nights at this villa for our 10th anniversary. We absolutely loved the open villa concept with amazing views from multiple outdoor patio areas as well as the swimming pool. Joleen (the owner) was so friendly and had such great advice on where to go eat, snorkle, beaches, daytrips, boat trips,etc..It was so nice to talk to her each day with new ideas and she really wanted to make sure we were having a good time and enjoying our vacation in Virgin Gorda. It's very easy to drive to anyplace on the island within a half hr, but it was especially convenient to be just 5 minutes from The Baths, Devils Bay, Spring Bay, Lil Trunk and Valley Trunk beaches, 5 minutes to grocery stores, numerous restaurants, and the marina.
Fav beaches: Lil Trunk, Valley Trunk(beautiful), Spring Bay, Devils Bay. Savannah and Mahoe beaches were bigger w/ better snorkeling than those other beaches but not as scenic as the close by beaches with the amazing rocks. All the beaches except The Baths were virtually empty. The Baths is worth the visit early in morning before crowds arrive and to do the caves between it and Devils Bay. The view and rocks are just the same next door at Spring Bay and Lil Trunk beaches so no need to stay at the crowded and small Baths beach for the day when next door is empty..
Fav daytrip: We took a day boat trip with Double D (Dave) that stopped at 4 diff places to snorkle with lunch and just a great relaxing day on the water with a really cool dude Dave that has all kinds of interesting local knowledge of the area. Highly recommend trip with Dave! Also take the ferry to Anegada. Famous for it's lobster and better snorkeling with miles of empty beaches. Fun day trip! A trip to Jost Van Dyke is also fun. Drive over to Leverick Bay for lunch or a cocktail at Little Dix's Resort.
Fav restaurants: The Rock (and also Georgios Treetop restaurant at same place), Hog Heaven for lunch(Great view!). Rendezvous Bar on Sun evening with Steel Drum band that was very good. The Top of the Baths for b-fst or lunch..excellent views..Happy hour at Coco Maya on the beach watching sunset! Nice atmosphere. Better than overpiced avg dinner there.
Virgin Gorda is small, quiet, w/ beautiful empty beaches + wonderful local people. We liked it much better than St. John. A lot of that was thanks to Joleen (and her nice property). We had a special time and will definitely go back and stay at Joleens. Thanks so much!

Beautiful Island Home - Great views

  • 5 out of 5
I have spent several 2-3 week stays every August going back to 2008. Several stays included our children who love the property and other times it was just two of us. I fell in love with this house in part because of the upland ocean views and light breeze but also the elegant Caribbean atmosphere, and evening sunsets. Being away from the crowds is nice and sitting in the pool after a long beach day is amazing. The kitchen is great for anyone who likes to cook - it certainly saves money with a family of five, but we also ventured out several times a week. The host is a very knowledgeable and adventurous lady who will share off-the-beaten path places to really experience the best the island has to offer. While there are no end to dive trips (Dive BVI) and sailing adventures to be had (Bitter End) snorkeling abounds. Bring your gear with you – it is well worth sacrificing a few t-shirts to have your own equipment. Every beach around the island has a different type of snorkeling and while all the names of beaches and the different fish elude me – it is nothing but amazing. Regardless of where you are on VG I would recommend having a car handy. Driving is easy and to explore…a necessity. If you sail or want to learn to kite-board, windsurf etc you will want to be able to get to Bitter End. Leverick Bay is a fun place to hang out and the evening show and buffet is well worth the price. Lastly, at the end of busy days the experience of being in a spacious environment and being able to stretch out all over, watch TV or read is sooooo much better than being in a hotel room. I would recommend the property to anyone with a desire to experience the island at its best.

Wonderful Villa and People on Fabulous Island

  • 4 out of 5
Recently returned from a week at this villa and had an amazing time. The home is beautiful and completely open. Although it is possible to close it, we did not find it necessary as there is almost always a breeze. (Watch out -when the breeze subsides, the mosquitos will get you! As with any other location in the islands, bring bug spray!)

The home is well appointed and beautifully decorated. The view is stunning and the pool is lovely. We enjoyed every evening grilling on the patio, enjoying the balmy breeze, while the children swam in the pool.

A few things to note about this home: First, this is a residential neighborhood so you will need to be prepared for residential annoyances such as dogs barking, sometimes to the point that it made it difficult to sleep. (The next door neighbor has 2 or 3 dogs and they were quite loud at times). Another small annoyance was the brightly lit baseball field down below the house. There was a game every evening, which was actually enjoyable to listen to, but the lights were very bright and ruined a bit of the ambiance. The owner also lives on the premises, in a house located on the other side of the pool.

All in all, these were small inconveniences to an otherwise wonderful villa for the price. Virgin Gorda is wonderful - the people, the island. We thoroughly enjoyed Michael 'Beans' music show at Leverick Bay Resort. Went for happy hour, had mahi sandwiches with a beautiful view, and enjoyed the fun "vibe" of the place. Also took the free ferry to the Bitter End and then Saba Rock - both HIGHLY recommended. Saba Rock has a great happy hour and lots of fun for the kids. Besides the obvious Baths/Spring Bay, we also enjoyed visits to Little Dix, Savannah Bay, Gorda Peak, and Mango Bay just to name a few.

The villa is a very short drive to Spring Bay/Little Trunk/Devils Bay so this makes the location great. While there was a maid who stopped in daily, another important thing to keep in mind is that the villa "is not a hotel" as the owner reminded us. Therefore, you will need to go in search of your own toilet paper, dish soap, etc. Be prepared! Prices for these items on Virgin Gorda are insanely high and sometimes a little difficult to find given the limited choices on the island. I would've gladly given up the daily maid in exchange for not having to go on a hunt for toilet paper, but again - not a big deal. Overall, this villa was good value for the money and Virgin Gorda is AMAZING.

Wonderful Winter Getaway (or any time, for that matter)!

  • 5 out of 5
My husband and I just spent eleven glorious and sunny days at Joleen's home on Windy Hill. It was just what we needed to lift our spirits during a particularly harsh winter here in New England. The home is very nicely done and we in particular enjoyed the enormous three-sided porch with a constant breeze. The views were incredible and we were treated to several rainbows after the occasional shower. The porch has three different sitting areas and a gas grill. We enjoyed the sugar birds coming to the feeder almost continuously during daylight.

The kitchen is well appointed with anything you can think of for preparing a meal or drink and I never before saw so many glasses and dishes in a rental home.

The large bedroom has great cross-ventilation, so we never turned on the AC. The king bed is extremely comfortable and the tile shower is very big. We did not use the second bedroom but is was also large and had a king (or 2 twins) and another day bed/trundle. Also another bathroom with a large tile shower, a separate laundry room, and TV, etc. All rooms and the porch have ceiling fans.

The private pool is an added bonus and was nice to relax in after being at the beach. And I can't forget Nanny, who comes to tidy up every day but Sunday.

Joleen is a great host and a wealth of information on Virgin Gorda. She gave us her picks on swimming, snorkeling, restaurants, and groceries. Our two favorite beaches were Spring and Savannah, all within a very short drive of the house. We never saw many people on the beaches except in the area of the Baths. But if you go early or late, you should be ok and it is not to be missed. Snorkeling at the beaches was good but our favorite was a boat trip with Double D who took us to four sites and lunch at the floating restaurant, Willy T off of Norman Island. The caves off of Norman were great and the snorkeling around the Indians, very impressive. We are not divers, but there is plenty of that as well.

It is an easy island to drive around (remember to keep on the left) and the scenery is really nice. Although we enjoyed all the meals we ate out, some of our favorite restaurants were Hog Heaven (ribs and view), Rock Cafe (lobster curry), Chez Bamboo, and Coco Maya.

We liked this home and Virgin Gorda so much that we are all booked for next year. Already dreaming about our return..........
