The Grainger is the ideal place to enjoy the best Melbourne has to offer, especially if you are looking for stylish, boutique accommodation within walking distance to everything!

This grand Edwardian home has been renovated with all modern interiors showcasing top quality decorations and furnishings.

The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, with 7 bedrooms equipped to accommodate a maximum of 16 people at any one time. We invite you to make yourself at home and enjoy the privacy of the luxuriously furnished bedrooms, kitchen, courtyard, living area, dining room and laundry.

ACCOMMODATION

Bedrooms

The Grainger offers seven bedrooms across two levels. All bedrooms (except the bunk room) contain their very own flatscreen television with built-in DVD player.

With four bathrooms and a powder room, it is unlikely you'll ever have to wait and the hot water supply is instantaneous and continuous.

All beds have super-comfy pillow-top mattresses and hotel quality, clean linen. The entire property is cleaned and maintained to meticulous standards.

Downstairs:

Bedroom 1 - King Bed or 2x King Singles (+ extra single sofa bed on request)

Upstairs:

Bedroom 2 - King Bed or 2x King Singles (+ extra single sofa bed on request)

Bedroom 3 - Double Bed (single or double occupancy)

Bedroom 7 - The Teeny Weeny Twin Bunk Room (2 x single beds in bunk configuration)

Kitchen

The newly renovated kitchen features all new appliances. Everything you could expect to find in a kitchen is provided, including basic necessities to get you started including milk, biscuits, tea, coffee and breakfast cereals.

Living Room

Everyone's favourite room, the living room boasts furniture that is not only stylish, but functional, with a four-seater Molmic couch and two armchairs adorned with feather cushions. The large flat-screen TV features Foxtel, including main movie and sporting channels.

Dining Room

The large dining table is a feature of this area, allowing you to spread out and read the paper whilst eating your breakfast. (Seats up to 12 people).

Courtyard Garden & BBQ

One of the highlights of The Grainger is the light-filled, manicured courtyard garden. What it lacks in size, it certainly makes up for in appearance, and even offers fresh lemons and herbs in season. The L-shape of the courtyard provides multiple outdoor settings as well as a Webber BBQ.

Laundry

The outdoor laundry room contains a washing machine and dryer for guest use. Laundry powder is provided, as are clothes hanging racks and a washing line.

Bathrooms

There are three self-contained bathrooms upstairs and one downstairs, each featuring a toilet, shower and hand basin, plus a powder room upstairs with double hand basin. All bathrooms are recently renovated with top-quality designer fittings and good water pressure.

Television & Foxtel

All bedrooms (except the bunk room) contain a flatscreen television with built-in DVD player. Foxtel is available in the main lounge room.

Internet Connection

Wireless ADSL internet connection is available within the property for connection to your PC should you need to stay connected for work or leisure.

Beds & Linen

All beds have super-comfy pillow-top mattress toppers and hotel quality, clean linen. Linen is changed weekly or upon check-out depending on the length of your stay. Large, fluffy bath towels, hand towels and face washers are provided for each guest's personal use and there are extras on hand in the powder room should you need them.

Kid's Stuff

A portable cot with linen and in-built change table is available along with a high chair, baby bath, play mat and safety gate should you need to cater for little people. Please notify us if you require any of these items so that we can arrange for them to be set up for you.

Smoking

Due to health and safety regulations, smoking within the house is strictly prohibited. If there is any evidence of smoking inside, your booking may be terminated and you will be charged for a specialised clean to eliminate odours. Please ensure doors and windows are closed if smoking on balconies or in courtyards.

Cleaning

The property is cleaned and maintained to meticulous standards on a weekly basis or upon check-out, depending on the duration of your stay.

Car Parking

Off-street parking is not available, however, there is plenty of parking in the surrounding side streets. One visitors parking permit is also available. Undercover parking is available across the road at the Melbourne Museum for $16 per day.

With backgrounds in design and property development, Alex and Tom's attention to detail is paramount. Their blood, sweat and tears are in everything from the paintwork to the locally-sourced artwork.

The Grainger (formerly known as ‘Jeans Hille’) is a grand Edwardian terrace, designed by renowned local Architect & Civil Engineer John Harry Grainger (father of the prolific pianist and composer, Percy Grainger), whose design accomplishments include the Princes Bridge over the Yarra River, the revered Georges Building in Collins St and, further afield, Auckland’s public library, art gallery and municipal offices, to name just a few.

Prior to its conversion to a boutique guesthouse, The Grainger was home to Melbourne’s pre-eminent art historian, Professor Emeritus Bernard Smith and his family for over thirty years.

With a history steeped in art and design, this grand residence was renovated in late 2010, to maintain its period features as well as showcase the best of Melbourne’s creative culture through use of modern, designer decorations and furnishings all sourced locally.

What's not to love about this property? The prime location on the edge of Melbourne's CBD allows the convenience of easy access to shops and restaurants within a relaxed, residential setting.
