About Diane Fraser

I had many happy years growing up by the sea in Pittenweem and very much wish we could spend more time there. Every time we visit we always say we must come back more often! My parents owned what used to be known as The VG licensed Grocers in the Market Place. I now live in Falkirk with my Husband Ross and two young children Ruari (7) & Alana (5). My Husband is a Funeral Director & I run a Beauty Salon from home, specialising in skin care treatments.

Diane Fraser purchased this house in 2007

Why Diane Fraser chose East Neuk of Fife

We went to Pittenweem for the first time in years to spend a day by the sea. We had no intentions of buying a property! As we passed the house for sale on our way to the harbour I mentioned how great it would be to have a house there! We all had an absolutely wonderful day, so much so that we decided to visit the Estate agents just to torture ourselves by looking at what we couldn't have! Well, the rest is history, we were at the right place at the right time and thankfully we managed to buy Tigh Na Mara! The house has had extensive work done and I think we have managed to create a very comfortable home from home enviroment.

What makes this house unique

Even though the house was extremely old fashioned and needed amounst other things a gas supply put in, lead pipes changed and walls knocked down. It had that wonderful comfortable homely feeling! Even being traumatised by the amount of work required, we just had to have it! The views are absolutely amazing and they are for ever changing. They can be enjoyed all year round, no matter what the weather. You can open up those doors and listen to the sounds of the sea while being sheltered from the wind. The house is also ideally situated, having a young family it is very important to us that the highlights of the coast are all within walking distance and we can visit other attractions with in a short drive.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Diane -

After we left Scotland we spent a week in France ...getting back to work is my poor excuse for not letting you know sooner how much we enjoyed staying at your property. We had a wonderful time!

The weather was stormy when we arrived; however, this only added to the breath taking view of the Sea.

I can't say enough about your hospitality. The apartment was comfortable, spacious, immaculate and beautifully appointed.. The special touches with Christmas tree and delicious chocolates made us feel very special. Your thoughtfulness was appreciated.

We hope you are feeling better. And thank you again, for being so accessible when we arrived without our entry instructions. You saved the day!!! My husband and two young adult children were not too pleased that I mistakenly brought incomplete instructions.

Take care,

Sheila

Lovely bright, modern holiday apartment

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is an amazing holiday home, perfect for total relaxation or an active coastal break. It is very well equipped with all mod cons, and is clean, bright, airy and spacious. The showers were especially good. The location is great for visiting the quaint Fife coastal towns, and of course St Andrews, and great for golfers too (my husband enjoyed the Anstruther course). I spoke to Diane a few times before our trip and she was lovely and very helpful. My only slightly negative comment would be about the front of the property which we felt looked a bit neglected - a total contrast to the interior. But nothing that a lick of paint and new front door fittings wouldn't sort. Apart from that there's nothing but positives. Would highly recommend this apartment. The Larachmhor Tavern was great for drinks and meals (sit in or take away- Indian menu too) - the owners very friendly. The Cocoa Tree chocolate shop and cafe was another great wee place. All in all we had a great long weekend here. Thanks Diane (sorry we forgot to write an entry in your guest book).

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review! I am delighted you liked the house and you enjoyed your holiday. The house is due it's regular maintenance to keep it up to the standard our guests deserve. With the east wind, sea air and harbour traffic, it is really difficult to keep the front of the house as pristine as we would like. I'm glad the entrance did not detract from your stay and we will replace ironmongery the next time we are through.

Ideal location with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

Relaxation was our aim and this rental property lived up to our expectations. Fabulous seaviews and amazing sunsets and sunrises. Enjoyed watching the Fishing Boats returning home in the evening. Very comfortable accommodation especially the surprising recliner chair!!!! Could have sat there all day:) Every area of the house was fresh and clean. Loved the underfloor heating in the bathrooms. Diane was very approachable, friendly and accommodating. I would recommend this property to everyone. Simply a beautiful place to spend time. Thank You Diane your house is a (not so wee) gem :) Elaine and Graeme

Wonderful views, cosy and spacious appartment

  • 5 of 5

How can one avoid praising this appartment too much? - Well, I shan't try.

We arrived for a short holiday over New Year's Eve to find a spacious appartment with a breathtaking view of the Firth. Especially the cosy living room invited to spend days on end with a good book and a hot pot of tea enjoying the sea (even more so, when stormy). Fortunately, the weather was so good that we could go for walks and short excursions to the neighbourhood along the coast. This was perfect, too. We enjoyed the surroundings as well as the flat itself, which has been decorated and equipped with much love and a keen eye to detail. I do not take it to be 'a matter of course' to find a kitchen fully equipped and in perfect working condition. So, thanks for this as well, we certaily appreciated not having to bother what the kitchen might allow when shopping for groceries.

Diane is a great host and very prompt in replying to email. In short: We couldn't have had a better time or found a better place for our New Year's hideout. We definitely recommend renting this appartment to anyone who wants to find some quiet at the Scottish coast.

We were in the lower appartment. Great setting.

  • 3 of 5

Great setting and potentially a lovely apartment for 2. However cold on arrival as boiler switched off in apartment above. No mobile reception and no wifi switched on so had to wander off to find a spot to contact owner. Property has been nicely done but is now showing signs of wear and tear and needs refreshing and a thorough clean and redecorating. Not enough towels, no black bin bags and no basics supplied eg loo cleaner. Very small fridge with broken freezer compartment. Facilities description on listing misleading and inaccurate eg clothes dryer - a small plastic hanger or outside line, fridge freezer already mentioned, no ironing board, not enough kitchen supplies eg no cheese grater. Owner responsive initially but clearly upset that we had complaints so didn't respond when we advised about the fridge being frozen up and dripping water on contents.

Couldn't recommend this lower apartment which is a pity without some changes as it is a great location.

Owner's Response: I'm sorry to see your review although it was not a surprise, after your late evening in depth email in which I replied to before 9am the following Sunday morning. I accidentally didn't mention the freezer door as I had so many points to cover. How that transpires to you feeling justified in saying I didn't respond, I do not know? How I gave you the feeling I was upset is a mystery? How ever I do understand your partner being upset on arrival when he realised he did not have a signal on his phone to keep in touch with his frail Mother and the coldness certainly would not help but there being no phone signal is out with my control! As mentioned before myself and husband who are on different networks can both use our mobiles in the apartment. The boiler had been turned off by a guest as it had been sunny and as the patio doors are south facing the apartments get extremely warm even with winter sun! Again as explained in my original email, I only arrange for the heating to be on for guests arriving the start of October - the end of March! As far as I am aware the internet is switched on all the time, was it not the fact in which you mentioned in your initial email, that the password was not written where you expected it to be? Like the fact you were upset that the instruction about turning on the timer to work the cooker was not written in the handbook but in the email I send containing the house address? Which you obviously did not read properly as you also complained at having to get something from the fish and chip shop as the cooker did not work! Again as explained when we have guests staying for 2 weeks the housekeeper likes to hand in fresh towels and check everything is ok? She herself leaves a questionnaire to request feedback about cleanliness etc! So I am extremely shocked that you say it needs a good clean! If that was the case I would have thought you would mention that in your initial email? I agree that there may be some signs of wear and tear but nothing offensive and certainly nothing which I'm ashamed of! I take great pride in offering clean comfortable accommodation in which many guests have written about positively here and in the guest book! There not being any black bags was a complete oversight which we remedied by handing them in the next day! There is a table top ironing board and there should definitely be a cheese grater but now you've brought this too my attention the lost or broken kitchen utensils will be replaced immediately!

Amazing sea views from your armchair!!!

  • 5 of 5

Tigh na mara is a wonderful apartment. We could have just looked out of the window all day. It was clean, comfy and well equipped. The location is excellent for people wanting to golf in the St Andrews area. Diane the owner was helpful when we had a problem. We had an amazing trip to see the puffins on the Isle of May and our best meal was The One Under St Andrews.
