Restored 1935 Matanuska Colony House

The Campbell House, an original 1935 Matanuska Colony farm house, is conveniently located in the heartland of Palmer, just 45 minutes from Anchorage and near the Alaska State Fairgrounds - home of the world famous giant vegetables!

Outstanding mountain views, small town friendliness, surrounded by beautiful farmlands - this is what Palmer is all about!

A stay at the Campbell House is a step back in time with all the comforts of today! Beautifully restored hardwood floors, staircase, columns, historical style windows and many antiques combined with contemporary comforts add up to an unforgettable stay! Relax the day away in the beautiful Master Bedroom upstairs with a luxurious king size bed and awesome mountain views!

Across the hall another delightful bedroom with beautiful hardwood floors and a pair of inviting comfortable twin beds.

A beautiful fully equipped, bright and shiny, new kitchen is ready for you! Whether you love to cook or just use the microwave and fridge ~ it's all there :)

Morning coffee in the dining room ~ sunshine and mountains are on the menu!

The living area is as comfy as can be with two leather loveseats and leather chair and ottoman, and upholstered occasional chair - lots of options for watching that 40 inch TV after a long day of exploring the magnificent state of Alaska!

The Campbell House in 1935, was without indoor plumbing, but never fear ~ No outhouse!! We had you in mind when we designed this bathroom! A large custom tile walk in shower, a beautiful antique vanity with contemporary glass vessel sink, modern privy and stacking washer and dryer will meet all your needs :)

A cozy bedroom with a twin sleigh bed on the main floor is a great option as a quiet space for exploring our many great Alaskan books you will find around the Campbell House!

So many options for getting out and about when you stay at the Campbell House! You can experience Hatchers Pass, the Reindeer Farm, the Musk Ox Farm, Matanuska Glacier, hike the Butte or Lazy Mountain for starters ~ and still have time to put your feet up at the end of the day and watch the sunset above Pioneer Peak at the Campbell House!

Alaska has beauty twelve months of the year ~ it's always a perfect time to visit!

About Q54 Management

We love living in the unique small town of Palmer Alaska! We have called Palmer home since moving to Alaska in the 1980's. Our first Palmer home was near the Matanuska Glacier. Now we currently reside closer to the townsite of Palmer.

Q54 Management purchased this house in 2011

Why Q54 Management chose Palmer

Our love of Palmer and its history led us to purchase an abandoned colony house. This little gem needed some tender loving care to restore her to her former glory and to continue telling her story. The Campbell House is located on the Springer system of roads ~ a most sought after location! Its a beautiful piece of property surrounded by farms that grow world famous Alaskan produce! It has glorious views of Pioneer Peak - our beloved Palmer mountain! It was a little house that needed alot of love! Just the right house for us - love Palmer, love its history, love the location - win, win, win! :)

What makes this house unique

The Campbell House has been accepted to the National Historic Register! So exciting to have restored and preserved ~ and to share the history of the 1935 Palmer Colony project!

*Recipient of the Historic Preservation Award 2013

*Member of Mat-Su Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Excellent Vacation Rental for Family!

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed in many vacation rentals in Alaska, so far I LOVE this one the best! This home is VERY accommodating for a family with children. Surrounded by lovely views you are gifted the country feel yet you are a 5 minute drive from stores. Well furnished with all the necessary accommodations and incredibly well decorated, this home would make any avid HGTV viewer (like myself) very impressed. I love the layout of this home and the fact it is a 3 bedroom allows space and privacy where needed. Best of all, if you have children there is a yard space out front for them to play and a washer and dryer on site! The home is very clean, well maintained, and the management team are friendly, professional and efficient! Not all vacation rentals are created equal and this one is top notch!

family get away with small children

  • 5 of 5

The house was very clean, tidy and well decorated. Wi-fi was available which was a plus! It was very quiet and cozy. Very spacious for the kids to roam around. There are 3 bedrooms, it would definitely have room for a couple and 3 kids with no problems! Kitchen was stalked with every thing you would need to cook homemade meal (minus the groceries which you need to provide yourself). Plenty of stores, eateries, fast food, coffee shops and gas stations with in a very short drive 5-15 min Max. Games, dvds, cable all available in this house! I would highly recommend this place for anyone that just needs to get away, or a vacation spot to reside in.

Loved this beautifully restored home! The attention to details and preserving the past was amazing. Loved the old photos, documentation & bits of history so thoughtfully displayed. All the amenities you need are provided. Well supplied kitchen & bath is great. So appreciated the washer and dryer as well. The Campbell House is ideally located for your adventures in the Palmer/Wasilla area. I highly recommend this wonderful home, you won't be disappointed.

Perfect abode - The Campbell House - highly recommend!

  • 5 of 5

The Campbell House was impeccably clean, great mountain views, all the amenities (washer/dryer, coffee/tea, all kitchen supplies plus some bananas, muffins, oj :), and just all the little personal touches is what made this place awesome. It was even better than what the pictures portrayed. Also, having free and fast wifi along with a big flat screen plus plenty of DVDs was great - even better were all the books on Alaska that we could peruse. I would highly recommend The Campbell House as its central location to Palmer (and yes we did make it to the Noisy Goose Cafe) along with everything mentioned above = 5 stars+

Owner's Response: Sara - you are going to have to come back as Noisy Goose is remodeling! :) I'm anticipating their re-opening! And you might just need a few more days to get through all the Alaska reading ;) We look forward to your return next time you vacation in Palmer!

Lovely vacation home!!

  • 5 of 5

We were so happy that we choose to stay in the Campbell House while in Palmer! The location was ideal, about an hours drive from the Anchorage airport and just a few minutes drive to the center of town, and the setting absolutely stunning - what views from the front door and the kids really enjoyed the swing in the front yard! The house itself was in excellent condition upon our arrival and included everything we could have needed during our stay. A fully stocked, eat in kitchen, a cozy living room with flat screen tv, cable and DVD player, large full bath on the first floor with washer dryer and 3 adorable (and comfortable) bedrooms. We hope to make it back to Palmer soon and if we do we will definitely be staying here! I would highly recommend this property!

Campbell house is amazing.

  • 5 of 5

I would highly recommend this property. We could have spent all summer here. It was clean, comfortable and inviting. Very nicely updated, nicely decorated and a wonderful view of the mountain. We loved the Noisy Goose Cafe, Hatcher's Pass and the Butte. We attended the Friday Palmer Market and it is ideal if you plan on going to the State Fair.

Sheri was very accommodating, helpful and informative.

The Campbell House is a restored Colony House from 1935, located in the heartland of Palmer, in the shadows of magnificent Pioneer Peak and surrounding farmlands.

Palmer is a historic town which grew rapidly when the New Deal Act of 1935 was put into action by President Roosevelt. Colonists from Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin were selected to move to Alaska to develop the land thru farming and related industry.

The Colonists lived in a Tent City until the lottery drawing took place that determined their homesites.

George and Onabel Campbell from Mio, Michigan drew Quarter 54 in the lottery drawing and were assigned the property that the Campbell House is on. Also still standing is the original chicken brooder.

Palmer town square has many historic buildings and monuments teaching about this time in our history.
