Overview

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in Nice Old Town (Vieux Nice) - Rue de la Croix

Just 5 mins to the beach, the flower market , shops and Place Massena

The apartment has been tastefully furnished to give it a 'home from home' feel and sleeps 2 people quite comfortably. The apartment benefits from two large double glazed windows which gives alot of natural lighting . One opens onto a small balcony which looks towards the Chapel across the street, the other towards a typical street in Vieux Nice.

The brand new kitchen benefits an electric oven and hob / extractor and all the necessities you might need to make your stay a memorable one. The small round table seats 4 people quite easily enabling you to try out some of the local delacacies.

There is comfortable seating in the lounge area, with the settee and additonal seating to watch a DVD or read, with Internet Access available. The television provides channels such as BBC News, CNN ,Sky News Bloomberg + others which may be in French but a great way to learn the language !

Nice / Vieux Nice area: Nice has attracted many famous people over the years and is full of culture and if art is your 'thing' then why not visit some of the many museums such as the Musee Chagall or Musee Matisse or indeed the Maeght Foundation in nearby St Paul de Vence which holds a mix of modern and contemporary art and contains one of the most important collections in Europe. you can get to St Paul de Vence in about an hour by bus from the main bus station in Nice ( approx 5 mins walk from the apartment). Alternatively, you can visit one of the many churches / Cathedrals in Nice, some dating back to the 17th Century.

Annual Events: Throughout the whole year there is something going on and events NOT to be missed include :

* The Fete du Citron in Menton with fantastic exhibitions and carnivals with floats made out of citrus fruits

* Nice Carnival - 2012 years theme is The King of Sport - FULL of huge floats and a great party atmosphere

* Nice Jazz Festival - held in July and attracts people from all over

* Cannes International Firework Festival - countries compete with a grand spectacular of fireworks to music

NOT to mention of course, the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix and many, many more events !

Provence Cote d'Azur region: If this is your first visit to the Cote D'Azur then you are in for a real treat ! There is so much to do for all members of the family with so many exciting places to see, you will not be disappointed. Nice is fun, cultural, sophisticated and exudes charm with a capital C.

Provence is renowned for its rosé wine and lavender fields and if you want to venture further inland then why not pick up a hire car and head towards the vineyards and sample some of the locally produced goods - a fantastic way to see rural France at its best ! Alternatively, in late July / August why not head towards the lavender fields, they really are a truly magnificent sight to behold with a 'carpet' of lavender everywhere.

During the winter months, then why not spend a day or two at one of the local ski resorts which are within easy distance ( about 1 and a half hours by car) the resorts of Isola 2000 and Auron are very popular and well worth a visit.

About Sheena Macdonald

We came to live in France some 7 years ago for a change of lifestyle and it has been quite a journey ! The Cote D'Azur is truly a wonderful place to live with most time spent outdoors enjoying the beautiful scenery and surrounding towns , not forgetting of course the amazing weather which we are blessed with here . Originating from Cheshire, we truly appreciate the warmer climate !

Sheena Macdonald purchased this apartment in 2009

Why Sheena Macdonald chose Nice Old Town (Vieux Nice)

We love Nice and in particular the Old Town with its cute little streets, plenty of places to eat, you will not be disappointed - all of which are literally on your doorstep . The buildings are so old, individual and fascinating its a great base from which to enjoy your stay in Nice.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a good week ! The flat is great with a comfortable bed ( we slept like logs !) , refreshing shower and everything we would need in the living area. It gave us a great base to explore Nice and the surrounding area although there is so much to see and do in the Vieille Ville that we could almost have spent the whole week within a few hundred metres of ' home '. Thank you Sheena for meeting us , providing milk and wine and a lovely place to stay. We hope to be back !

Very comfortable apartment in the old town of Nice

  • 5 of 5

A very comfortable place to stay for us (a mid-20s couple). The location is great, it was quiet when we were there, and as well as being very well maintained, the apartment has all you need. We weren't experienced with holiday apartments prior to our stay but we really preferred it to staying in a hotel: it was nice to wake up at our leisure and not have to worry about a specific time for breakfast, and it was nice to cook in the property some nights rather than eating out every single night. Sheena was very helpful and made sure we had everything we needed, and if we ever return to Nice we would certainly be happy to stay here again.

Fabulous Location, Comfortable Apartment

  • 5 of 5

We simply loved staying at this 1-BR apartment right in the heart of Old Town Nice. This comfortable, fully stocked apartment is located right in the heart of Old Town but is on a residential street so it is calm and quiet. Sheena has furnished all the niceties of a home away from home, sufficient for a short or extended stay. Lovely linens and towels and spotlessly clean and fresh throughout. We loved the stay so much we have already booked for next year and we can't wait to return.

Just Perfect Every Time!

  • 5 of 5

This was my second visit to this gorgeous apartment in the buzzing Vieux Nice. The first for my partner. Entering the door and seeing it all again was like putting on a cosy pair of slippers. Warm, inviting, relaxing, home. We were very much in need of a break from the everyday humdrum and Sheena & Mike's apartment starts the rejuvenating process perfectly. The space is well thought out and used effectively. The décor is chic and delicate, all capturing a lovely home from home feel. Everything you could need is somewhere within the apartment, the sofa is divine, the bed is excellent and the shower is blissful. Visiting Nice at the festive time of year was so different from my early summer visit last time. The Christmas markets were bountiful, the mood was carefree and peaceful and the square was an array of revelry & laughter. Nice was still very much alive and bustling but it felt much more relaxed & convivial. Our visit was fabulous and re-charged the batteries entirely. I just adore this apartment, Sheena & Mike, again, could not have been better hosts nor more generous (leaving us a chilling bottle of champagne in the fridge for New Years Eve was a delightful surprise) and we will visit time and time again. This is THE perfect apartment for a single traveller or a cosy couple. I cannot recommend it or Sheena & Mike enough!

Wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Sheena for the wonderful stay at your apartment! Everything is so clean and the apartment is right in the middle of the old town. We appreciated the welcome pack and all the cleaning products. These little attentions make the difference. Very well located to take the bus to go around for some visits.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind comments - it was a pleasure to meet you both. We really aim to make your stay as memorable as can be, for all the right reasons of course ! After a long flight it's important that the little extras are there for you - the last thing you feel like doing is going to the shop to buy provisions for that initial sit down We look at our rental with pride and take great care to hopefully make your holiday one of the best and to remember Nice with many pleasurable experiences such that you will return one day. Welcome anytime ! Sheena

The Old Town of Nice has a real French feel with lots of narrow streets to navigate your way through to the many restaurants and bars all within a 5 min walking distance. It has a great buzz to it throughout the year and is a 'must see' on anybody's list of places to see. Place Massena with its elegant fountain and tramway system is a 10 min stroll away with many restaurants and shops to keep you occupied, with a vibrant feel to it either by day or night.

If you prefer to 'chill' and enjoy the sunshine then take a sun lounger on the beach , take a dip in the azure blue sea and maybe treat yourself to a leisurely lunch at one of the many restaurants along the beach front and sit and watch the world go by.

If you want to get a flavour of the glitzy side of the Cote D'Azur then why not visit Cannes or Monaco with many super yachts of the rich and famous, both within easy reach by bus or train. A few stops after Monaco by train and you are in Italy with its famous market.

Ski: Nice is within an hour and a half from 2 ski resorts , Auron and Isola 2000. Both resorts can be accessed either by car or by a daily bus service from Nice bus station ( early start !)
