Set in the beautiful & up-market valley of Cortijo Grande, one of the most beautiful spot in Andalusia, the Bella Vista with its' fantastic views from the huge terrace and the very private pool offers exceptional features for wonderful holidays. The villa is only 15 minutes from the ancient and fascinating Moorish village of Mojacar on it's hill, and the long sandy beaches below.
Bars and restaurants abound both in the valley as well as in neighbouring communities such as Cabrera, Turre, Mojacar, Garrucha and Vera. Further afield there are many places to visit including Granada with the famous Alhambra just a couple of hours or so distant.
While the principal attractions of the area are the beaches and the wide range of golf courses, the wild beauty of the area encourages many activities. The Cabrera mountains and the lovely surrounding area, in particular Cortijo Grande itself, are ideal for walking and cycling, while the local area offers riding, tennis, petanque, water sports, fishing etc. There are several golf courses within a short drive.
Local communities include neighbouring Turre and Cabrera, while a little further away are Mojacar, Mojacar Playa, Garrucha and Vera. There are lively weekly markets in most of these places and the area abounds with good restaurants, from basic and inexpensive to sophisticated locales with international cuisine of a high order.
The beaches are well kept and there is none of the intense commercial exploitation to be found on other Costas. They are friendly low-key places, ideal for families.
Spectator sports are also available in season. We have a Primera Liga football team in Almeria within 1hours drive, and for those who wish to experience traditional bull fights, there are always local events in the season. Within reasonable distances are the historic city of Granada, seat of Andalusia's Moorish past, where the Alhambra is a wonder to be seen. Nearer, is Mini Hollywood, wonderful fun for the family with it's staged gunfights etc. Mini Hollywood reflects the fairly recent past when many Spaghetti Westerns were shot in the area, as well as parts of the film Lawrence of Arabia. In Cortijo Grande itself, just a few years ago, much of the film Raiders of the Lost Ark was made, with Sean Connery etc.
Unless you drive from the UK, you will arrive at either Almeria, Murcia or Alicante airports. Take the E15 motorway to exit 520 then the local road direction Turre. We will arrange to meet you.
Bella Vista fully lived up to the promises made for it , the owners John and Frances were helpful and friendly and even stocked the fridge with essentials. The pool was a great asset and the new BBQ was well tested.
I would certainly recommend this lovely villa to any of my friends.
We've just returned from a week's stay in Bella Vista and would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a peaceful, relaxing holiday. It's set in a wonderful location overlooking a golf course and beautiful mountains, whilst only a 15 minute drive from the beach. Lots of lovely walks on the doorstep too.
Just a couple of minutes' walk down the road, there's a lovely restaurant (Almazara) serving delicious food at reasonable prices.
The villa has a well equipped kitchen - we cooked in a few times and also used the barbecue one evening - everything we needed was there.
We used the well maintained pool every day, was perfect for cooling down - the weather was hot (up to 28 degrees some days). The owners, John and Frances, live nearby and were really friendly and helpful in providing information about the local restaurants and places to visit. Would definitely live to come back here again.
What an absolutely marvellous place to stay! We spent two weeks in June-July 2013 – on our first family holiday for years. Accompanied by sons, partners and our two year old grandson, we had the most fabulous time. The house is adorable – really family friendly. The outdoor pool is superb as is the wonderful terrace which surrounds the property – great for racing around with our little one. The views are delightful – just so lovely to sit and watch the world go by – peaceful and tranquil, and yet with good local amenities close by.
The two restaurants in the village are really something, meaning that you don’t need to go far to get some excellent food – less than two minutes to walk there!
The beaches, just 15 minutes away, are white sand and the sea exactly as you would expect, with some of the most friendly locals we have met in recent times.
There are lots of things to do in the region, but mostly we spent our time at the villa – around and in the pool, and down at the beach – it was just so relaxing to be able to chill out, and owners John and Frances couldn’t have been more accommodating without ever getting in the way.
We will definitely be returning – it’s rare to find a holiday property that ticks all of the required boxes – but Bella Vista really did.
We spent a lovely week in Bella Vista in May 2013 and really enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the lovely villa and its lovely views over the valley below and the mountains around.
The villa is charming with everything you need and for us the most enjoyable thing was to relax on the lovely sun terraces in the early morning or evening and enjoy the views and the birdsong.
The villa is situated in a lovely quiet spot in a quiet valley with was a big bonus for us. However, the town of Turre and the hilltop village of Mojacar Pueblo is within easy driving distance with the coast a few km further away.
There are some good restaurants (2 within walking distance) and several more within driving distance either in the lovely moorish village of Cabrera or Turre or Mojacar. This is the perfect place to relax and still be close to a variety of typical small Spanish towns. Thanks also to the John the owner for his kind hospitality.
What a lovely holiday. We booked this holiday villa as we were hoping for some sunshine after a terrible English winter, and we are so glad that we did. We chose Almeria specifically because of the weather and it was glorious as expected.
The flight in from Gatwick was very early in the day and so we got an extra full day and the owners were happy for us to go straight into the villa after an easy short drive from the airport in a hire car. The owners (John & Frances) met us on arrival and were full of local knowledge and tips. They have lived in the area for many years and so know all the best places to go. They live in the valley where Bella Vista is situated but across the other side and so they are there if you need them but they do not bother you and give you complete privacy if you want your own space.
The villa itself is lovely! Too big for just the two of us but we managed!! The best feature is the magnificent terrace with stunning views across the mountains and golf course. The pool is really beautiful but a little bit chilly in April , My fiance swam every day but I wasn't quite brave enough except to dip my toes into.
When we had too much sun, the living room was very comfortable with a flat screen tv, dvd player, etc etc. Another great feature which I wasn't expecting was the wifi, it was really nice to have it but did mean that I spent some time working which I shouldn't really have done on holiday. However for a family or someone that does need to be in touch it is a really good and fast service - there is good mobile coverage too (with Orange).
The local area is really lovely with something for everyone; the restaurants are all very good and the "menu del dias" are tremendous value and allowed us to eat out every day. We stuck with Frances' tips on restaurants and always had excellent experiences eating in mainly typical Spanish/ Mediterranean places. However there was also a great Morrocan restaurant in Cabrera (5 mins drive from the villa) which was just wonderful. The beach bars in Mojacar were also open and offered good food and some lovely cocktails.
I hope we can come back to Bella Vista and I am already planning our next trip.!!
You will need a car for this type of holiday although there was an excellent bar & restaurant a short walk away.
This was a really lovely villa holiday and we will be back to Bella Vista - Highly recommended!
What a lovely place to stay! We are delighted to have discovered Bella Vista. We stayed for nine days in early October, 2012. The villa is beautifully located, well-equipped and has a lovely clean pool. Overall we would highly recommend Bella Vista for a relaxing Spanish break.
The weather was perfect and we spent our days either exploring the local area and visiting local restaurants, relaxing by the pool and indulging in BBQs.
Here are our food recommendations:
Adelina in Turre serves good solid Spanish fare and has an interesting menu with choices such as goat. The service is very pleasant.
The Parador in Mojacar is beautifully located and lovely for a special meal.
Los Pastores serves excellent food, well-adjusted to the British palate.
If you are exploring the beaches further south, we had one of the best Spanish meals we have ever eaten in Casa Miguel in San Jose. There are two branches of Casa Miguel, one by the marina, one in the town - we went to the one in the town.
Recommendations for exploring - the mini Hollywood spaghetti western film sets are expensive but good fun for a day out. We were particularly impressed by the reptile house in the zoo at Mini-Hollywood.
For beautiful deserted beaches, try the beaches south of San Jose. Getting to them entails driving along a bumpy track, but is well worth the effort.
We are most grateful to John and Frances for making our stay such a happy one. we will be returning!
The Bella Vista is a charming rose-tinted villa set among mature trees and in a wonderful and very private position with sensational views of the mountains and countryside. The villa is built on 2 floors with the living accommodation upstairs and the bedrooms below. There are 4 bedrooms accommodating a potential total of 8 people, and 2 bathrooms with tub and shower, one en suite to the master bedroom. 3 of the bedrooms open out onto the wonderful views and onto a path leading to the pool a few paces away. These 3 bedrooms have airconditioning while the fourth bedroom has effective fans for summer cooling.
The upstairs living area comprises a comfortable and well furnished living room, a dining room and the kitchen. Both living room and dining room open out onto the terrace with the fabulous views, while the living room and kitchen also open out onto the rear patio with a further sitting out area and also a work area with washing machine..
Golf: There is plenty of golf in the area, both at the Cortijo Grande course just a few metres away and at various other courses within easy distance. The beaches offer all the usual summer facilities, including some very good beach bars for impromptu meals after sunbathing.
Ski: Skiing in the Sierra Nevada is only 2.5 hours away near the picturesque & historical city of Granada. Normally available December thru Aprl, but obviously this can vary. Lift passes & rntal equipment are very affordable compered to other ski resorts in Eurpe. The apres ski is amongst the best in the world.
