Centre of Varenna: Varenna's apartments or houses don't come in many better locations than 'Casa Varenna'. This newly refurbished town house (open 6th March 2010) is located in the centre of the old town only 30m from the lake front. Varenna has some of the best small restaurants, trattoria's & pizzerias on the Lake, most of which are found in these rustic cobbled streets dating back to Roman times and only a minutes’ walk away. Casa Varenna is also 100m from the main square and only a 5 minute walk from the ferry terminal, following the lake side path.
Anybody who knows Varenna, will appreciate the combination of charm and town accessibility, via road, ferry and the railway station. This allows those who do not wish to hire a car, to arrive by boat or train. Without a car however, the need to stay central is greatly increased, as Lake Como is surrounded by steep hillsides.
Marrying on Lake Como: Varenna is not only a favourite honeymoon destination but also a popular place to get married and Villa Cipressi, the Hotel Victoria, Albergo Milano and Hotel du Lac accommodate many guests with several involved in hosting wedding ceremonies. In addition, the famous Villa Monastero is also popular for conferences and international events with the splendid gardens open to the public between March - Nov. All these hotels and villas are literally 2-5 minutes way on foot and avoid the need for taxis or cars. Vacation rentals do of course offer a much more relaxed approach to preparing for these events and being able to follow your own agenda.
Things to do!: Believe it or not and crazy as it sounds, you can also catch a train from Varenna to Venice & be back in the evening on the same day!
Travelling by train is so easy & cheap in Italy. Take a day trip to Milan - see the incredible cathedral, Leonardo's 'The Last Supper' or shop in the famous 'Galleria di Vittorio Emanuele' or the chic 'Quadrilatero' - the area of four streets which offer the very best fashion boutiques, antique shops and jewellers, the Mecca of designer shops! Only an hour away by train from Varenna.

Guestbook comments from the manager
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to review the accommodation which we stayed in from 13th April for three nights. I have written some comments below:
Title: Excellent accommodation in beautiful surroundings
Casa Varenna was a beautiful property with elegant but comfortable furnishings. It was very clean and had everything in it we could possibly need. The management team were very helpful with instructions on how to get there, how to unlock the property and when the internet password, wouldn't work, were quick to sort this out for us. We had a great infomration folder which gave us recommendations on what to do and where to eat as well as where to get our supplies from.
Varenna is truly a gem in an area filled with treasure. The little towns and villages close by are easily accessible by ferry and bus and it is a quick trip over the border to Switzerland. Our only regret was having to leave Varenna at the end of our stay! The views alone cannot be described, but must be seen, to realise the beauty of this area.
We would happily recommend this property to our friends.
We ate dinner at the Royal Victoria Hotel and this meal was beautiful. We also ate the Nilus Bar - a fantastic place for pizza and a glass of wine or just a coffee and pastry mid morning. The view at both these places is "to die for"
It would have been nice to have had some additional rolls of toilet paper - we had one, with a very small amount left on it - and some soap for the handbasins. There are things which as overseas visitors we do not carry and we had to rush out to the general store and buy some before it closed.
Here are a couple of photos which you may be able to use.The first is the view from the Nilus Bar, with the sea plan flying over, the second from the path to the ferry point in Varenna.
