Captivating
We have recently returned from a wonderful week in Crete, staying at the Agean Blue Villa in Kera, near Almyrida.
I have no need to repeat the glowing recommendations of other guests and reviewers, though I do concur with them. I would simply like to add, that wherever we travelled during our visit to this most beautiful Island, we were always very happy to be 'home.'
A lot has been said about the villa's amenities and comfort; I would like to mention the Lefka Ori, (White Mountains) So much of the time spent at the villa we sat, either on the balcony, or in the outside seating area, simply staring at the ever changing mountain vista. Their beauty is stunning, it was difficult to concentrate on anything else, hard to read a book, play a game of backgammon, or do anything other than stare at them.
Unless ....... we were staring out at Souda Bay. Once again, the view changed constantly, depending upon the time of day and the weather. (Which incidentally, was wonderful, most unexpected and welcome.) We watched fishermen diving to tend to their lobster pots, people bathing in Kera bay, boats of all sizes, Cruise ships, fishing boats, and even a mine sweeper from the nearby NATO base. The colours ebbed and flowed. Oh ...... and to fall asleep with that view each night, and wake each morning to a different shade, is something we will never forget. We could hear the waves caressing the shoreline. Wonderful.
Almyrida is an easy walk away and has lots of good taverna's and bars. A few were still open in November and were welcoming and offered very good food. The beach at Almyrida is lovely too and we swam - without a sharp intake of breath as the sea was warm and calm. Kalives was our favourite village as it is a working village, therefore authentic. Not as pretty as Almyrida, but full of life and atmosphere. We thought it too far to walk. Some historic sites were still open in November, and; it is the beginning of the Olive harvesting and processing season.
We highly recommend Crete, in November, at the Agean Blue Villa, and warmly thank Richard and Sally for their hospitality.
Owner's Response: So pleased you enjoyed Crete and our villa. I agree the views are quite spectacular and very special. Can't wait to get back next year and we hope to welcome you again in the future.
