Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday apartment in San Ginesio - Casa Carotondo
Spacious accommodation, large beautiful garden in tranquil location.

The apartments are part of an old stone farmhouse. The house has been sensitively restored adhering, where possible, to traditional design and retaining architectural features. The house is located in a small hamlet near Sarnano. It sits atop a small hill with stunning views of the mountains and the surrounding woodland and fields. The woodland offers opportunities for short strolls or even mountain biking. The apartments are on the ground floor of the farmhouse with their own entrances and outdoor space with table and chairs for al fresco dining. All apartments face the mountains and are surrounded by a large two tiered garden for the sole use of guests. The garden is mostly laid to grass with some terracing and flower beds. There are plenty of sun loungers available. There is a wash room equipped with washing machine, sink and iron for guests to use. We also have a small library of games, books and DVDs..

Cultural Activities: The Macerata area has been inhabited for 10000 years so there is plenty of history to enjoy. Urbs Salvia is the largest Roman era excavation in the area. Casa Carotondo is surrounded by medieval hilltop towns with architectural and artistic treasures of interest. In the Middle Ages Castles were built around the Calderola area, some have been restored and are worth visiting. The works of Carlo Crivelli are exhibited throughout the Marche, the nearest to Casa Carotondo being at Monte San Martino. Paintings by Lorenzo, Lotto, Titian and others are to be seen at various locations. For modern art head to Ripe San Ginesio. Visit the home of the famous Italian poet Giacomo Leopardi who was born and lived in the Marche in Recanati. Religion has played an important role in the Marche history find out more and visit the beautiful Cathedrals of Tolentino and Loretto. Day trips to famous Umbrian towns such as Assissi and Perugia are also possible..

Outdoors: Around Casa Carotondo you can take short strolls or mountainbike through woodland. There are routes in the surrounding countryside for walking or cycling from Sarnano or you can head into the Sibillini mountains. There are guidebooks for walking and cycling and we can help with route planning. Other possibilities include horse riding - the experienced can trek in the mountains. Paragliding is possible as are balloon flights over the area. You can swim or fish in Lago di Fiastra surrounded by mountains. If you just want to relax, drive to the top of the mountains, have a picnic and take in the views. In winter there is the possibility of downhill or cross country skiing. Further afield the Adriatic coast beckons with its sandy beaches and excellent fish restaurants. The Conero regional park is a rocky but beautiful stretch of coastline. Alternatively head north to the caves of Frassasi and the Gola della Rosa regional park.

Other: Sarnano, the nearest town, has a wide range of shops and three supermarkets. There is a weekly market for fresh produce and a number of shops selling specialty foods such as locally made Pecorino cheese. Alternatively you can try out 'la cucina marchigiana' at the many reasonably priced restaurants in the area. For those in need of more retail therapy outlet shopping is a possibility with names such as Armani and Hogans. Every summer each town puts on a number of festas to attract tourists. These generally involve live music and food. A number of the medieval towns also stage Palios. Every year San Ginesio reenacts a battle it fought with Fermo in 1377. There are numerous historical theaters in the area, which regularly have performances. There are a number of music festivals during the summer for blues, jazz and most famously the Sferisterio opera in Macerata. All too hectic? Then sit on your apartment terrace, enjoy a glass of wine, the cool evening breeze and listen to the cicadas

About Vanessa Foulkes, Rob Newman

We are Rob Newman and Vanessa Foulkes. Before arriving in Le Marche, we lived in London working respectively as goldsmith and software consultant. We have done most of the renovation work at Casa Carotondo ourselves, which is why it took so long for us to start renting the apartments! We believe the renovation work to be of a high quality and have added character to the place as well as using traditional architectural features. We share the house with our friendly dog Chico.

Although we live on site we respect your desire for privacy while staying at Casa Carotondo. We are here, however, should you need help or want information.

Beautiful setting

Review Submitted: 04 September 2012 Date of Stay: August 2012
The apartment is finished, furnished and equipped to a high standard and is in a lovely setting. How lovely it was to wake up to such a view. We had a very hot week, but still managed to explore the area. This we enjoyed very much - and it was lovely to be around when so much was happening in the local towns and villages. This was our first, but hopefully not our last, visit to the Marche.
Thanks Vanessa and Rob for all the care and attention you have obviously put into the place.

Great place at a lovely location

“We’ve had a lovely week in Priora. It was very hot, so we didn’t do as much as we wanted. But that gave us the opportunity to enjoy this wonderfull house and its surroundings.
Maybe we will be back to be a little more active. Nevertheless we enjoyed our lazy week very much. Thanks!”

Perfect appartment

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 24 May 2011 Date of Stay: April 2011
We really enjoyed our stay here. The appartment was absolutely beautiful and had superb views. We has some bad luck with the weather this early in the season, but there were still plenty of walks we could enjoy. The Sibillini area is perfect for walks and car trips. There is so much diversity in views and wildlife. We enjoyed seeing deer, wild boars, a black squirrel and even a porcupine as well as numerous bird species. Also a special thanks for Rob ab Vanessa for being such good an helpful hosts!
