Lovely homely cottage

  • 5 out of 5
The cottage is very comfortable, good facilities and a welcoming homely feel. The garden is lovely - private with unspoilt views. Location is good - Salcome, Bantham Beach and Soar Mill Cove all within easy reach. The village has plenty of facilities including tennis courts and a playground within walking distance. We would recommend this cottage without hesitation.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write an excellent review and for recommending the cottage to others. We are so pleased that you found the cottage cosy and enjoyed the beautiful views from the garden. We always enjoy being at the heart of all the local beaches, and our children made extensive use of the upgraded playground in the village during the amazing summer we had this year. We look forward to welcoming you back one day.

Old-fashioned summer days - Just wonderful!

  • 5 out of 5
I spent hours searching for the most suitable place for my partner & I to stay for our first visit to South Devon. Key priorities were - a central location, a quiet area, a reasonably priced yet attractive property, & a private, fully enclosed garden that would safely contain our inquisitive little dog! (Milly). In discovering Vale Court, we found exactly what we were looking for. Staying here for a week, whilst visiting the very beautiful South Hams area, was a winning combination! Vale Court is a very pretty thatched cottage, comfortable, cosy, and well equipped. The garden is lovely – south facing, with a large patio, lush lawn, & a stunning view. It’s fully enclosed, & as there are two tall wide gates to go through to get to the (quiet) road outside, we could fully relax knowing it provided the perfect ‘dog safe’ haven. Whilst there are a couple of small upstairs windows from other houses that do overlook the garden, it still felt very private. We spent many tranquil hours on the patio having barbecues & a glass of wine. (Milly lounged happily on the lawn). Malborough is a small, friendly village. The Coop at the local garage is well stocked & a bonus to have close by. The Salcombe Road (A381) can get busy at peak times, but as Vale Court is situated in a quiet part of the Village, you hear very little traffic noise. Vale Court is well positioned for visiting all of South Devon, & there are many lovely beaches nearby. We drove to most of them (car parking charges payable) but we also had very enjoyable leisurely walks to South Sands beach (approx 50 mins) and to Hope Cove (approx 40 mins). For dogs, Milly would highly recommend the beaches at Bigbury on Sea & at South Milton Sands; (these were her top-rated beaches from the many lovely beaches we visited). For children & a 1st rate bucket & spade experience, we think the beaches at Hope Cove, South Sands and East Portlemouth would be hard to beat. Just to add; the owners were very responsive & friendly in our telephone / email communication when booking. The Wi-Fi connection worked fine. We couldn’t get mobile signals in the cottage (Vodafone & 3) - not a bad thing when you are on holiday! Often we’d get a signal on the grassed parking area, & always as we walked towards the coop. To conclude, I have to say it’s rare that we’d consider returning to a place - as we’re always more keen to visit new places - but I think a return visit to Vale Court & the South Hams area will somehow prove irresistible!

Fab fab cottage

  • 5 out of 5
We have just returned from vale court cottage, It was fab. Big but cosy, loved all the furniture, fitted in well with the character of the cottage but with mod cons such as the tv, wifi. It was important for us when looking for a cottage that we had outside space. The garden looked nice on the website but was better than expected. My dog loved the garden and we couldn't get him out of it. The views are amazing even when you are sitting in the lounge. The cottage is very central. We really did not want to leave and will be looking to make vale court a regular visit.

Lovely cottage in lovely location

  • 5 out of 5
We stayed for a week in May with our daughter and two year old grandson. Cottage is very well equipped and has a very nice atmosphere. Lovely views from main bedroom and garden. Very quiet. Malborough is very quiet indeed. Good COOP nearby for your shopping. Vehicular entrance to the property was very tight for my landrover and sometimes we parked near the Church and walked down to the cottage but this didn't impair our enjoyment. Highly recommended property.

Lovely week, lovely cottage

  • 4 out of 5
We visited in May half term, with mixed weather. Cottage was great, clean and well-presented, with good-sized garden and sociable kitchen-dining space. Downstairs bathroom, which isn't unusual for a cottage of this age.
Great views across the valley and walks from the door, including to the coast/Salcombe if you're feeling energetic (we managed it with three young children!) Best to drive for daily trips to the beach, although you'll have to negotiate the very narrow driveway.
Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

A quiet little village that has two pubs, a bistro, a well-stocked supermarket, a post office and gift shop. Ideally situated for the wonderful National Trust coastal walks and the wild beauty of Dartmoor. There is a choice of several sandy beaches all within easy reach of the cottage, from small coves to wide-open sands - ideal for surfing and kitesurfing. Also close by is a leisure centre, steam railways, horse riding and golf. The historical seaports of Plymouth and Dartmouth are within a 40 minute drive.
