3 Bedroom cottage with private garden, patio and views

A very pretty 17th Century thatched cottage set amongst other rose clad thatched cottages in the village of Malborough. Vale Court Cottage has a unique location with beautiful views over fields towards Bolberry Down from the lovely south-facing patio and large secluded garden. On the ground floor there is a comfortable spacious living room with solid fuel / wood burning stove and French doors opening onto the large patio. Flat screen television with free view, DVD and iPod station. Exceptionally well equipped kitchen with electric range, microwave, dishwasher & fridge. Bathroom and utility room with additional toilet. Upstairs has 3 bedrooms, one king, one twin and one single room. Outside there is a large secluded garden with wonderful views over open countryside. Separate area with parking for two cars.

A lovely cottage in a lovely location

What a lovely, well maintained and well equipped cottage. Malborough is considerably quieter and better value than salcombe yet they are only 2 miles apart. Both the owner and neighbours were incredibly friendly and helpful. We had a fantastic week and would very happily return.

Excellent holiday let

This cottage is in a wonderful location and equipped to an excellent standard. The owner was friendly and helpful and the nearest neighbour (attached) was attentive but not intrusive. I cannot fault the fixtures and fittings and the patio/ garden area, facing south, is a wonderful spot to relax. The property was clean and well maintained. The nearby pubs are both worth a visit but we preferred the food in the Old Inn; excellent and friendly service. I saw in the Visitor book that some people didn't like the fact that electricity is by coin-fed meter. We preferred it this way as although it appears to require quite regular feeding, we only paid for what we, as a couple, used and we didn't feel we were subsidising larger families or more profligate users. The property is pretty good value in any case and visitors should take note of that. The entrance is certainly narrow and my (admittedly wide) Honda CR-V took a little careful manoeuvering. It is important to follow the owner's advice as to which way to approach the entrance and alternative parking is available nearby. All in all, a very pleasant place to stay!

Charming comfortable cottage

Good location in Malborough, so close to lots of beaches, and not as busy as Salcombe. Peaceful with great views over the countryside, good size garden for the children to play in. Bathroom downstairs, but fine for us with slightly older children. Cosy with the woodburner when it got cold in the evenings.

Lovely homely cottage

The cottage is very comfortable, good facilities and a welcoming homely feel. The garden is lovely - private with unspoilt views. Location is good - Salcome, Bantham Beach and Soar Mill Cove all within easy reach. The village has plenty of facilities including tennis courts and a playground within walking distance. We would recommend this cottage without hesitation.

Old-fashioned summer days - Just wonderful!

I spent hours searching for the most suitable place for my partner & I to stay for our first visit to South Devon. Key priorities were - a central location, a quiet area, a reasonably priced yet attractive property, & a private, fully enclosed garden that would safely contain our inquisitive little dog! (Milly). In discovering Vale Court, we found exactly what we were looking for. Staying here for a week, whilst visiting the very beautiful South Hams area, was a winning combination! Vale Court is a very pretty thatched cottage, comfortable, cosy, and well equipped. The garden is lovely – south facing, with a large patio, lush lawn, & a stunning view. It’s fully enclosed, & as there are two tall wide gates to go through to get to the (quiet) road outside, we could fully relax knowing it provided the perfect ‘dog safe’ haven. Whilst there are a couple of small upstairs windows from other houses that do overlook the garden, it still felt very private. We spent many tranquil hours on the patio having barbecues & a glass of wine. (Milly lounged happily on the lawn). Malborough is a small, friendly village. The Coop at the local garage is well stocked & a bonus to have close by. The Salcombe Road (A381) can get busy at peak times, but as Vale Court is situated in a quiet part of the Village, you hear very little traffic noise. Vale Court is well positioned for visiting all of South Devon, & there are many lovely beaches nearby. We drove to most of them (car parking charges payable) but we also had very enjoyable leisurely walks to South Sands beach (approx 50 mins) and to Hope Cove (approx 40 mins). For dogs, Milly would highly recommend the beaches at Bigbury on Sea & at South Milton Sands; (these were her top-rated beaches from the many lovely beaches we visited). For children & a 1st rate bucket & spade experience, we think the beaches at Hope Cove, South Sands and East Portlemouth would be hard to beat. Just to add; the owners were very responsive & friendly in our telephone / email communication when booking. The Wi-Fi connection worked fine. We couldn’t get mobile signals in the cottage (Vodafone & 3) - not a bad thing when you are on holiday! Often we’d get a signal on the grassed parking area, & always as we walked towards the coop. To conclude, I have to say it’s rare that we’d consider returning to a place - as we’re always more keen to visit new places - but I think a return visit to Vale Court & the South Hams area will somehow prove irresistible!

Situated in the heart of the South Hams district of South Devon, Malborough lies between the sailing centre of Salcombe and the market town of Kingsbridge. A quiet little village that has two pubs, a bistro, a well-stocked supermarket, a post office and gift shop. Ideally situated for the wonderful National Trust coastal walks and the wild beauty of Dartmoor. There is a choice of several sandy beaches all within easy reach of the cottage, from small coves to wide-open sands - ideal for surfing and kitesurfing. Also close by is a leisure centre, steam railways, horse riding and golf. The historical seaports of Plymouth and Dartmouth are within a 40 minute drive.
