Upton - Cornwall's Best Kept Secret
Upton - Cornwall's Best Kept Secret
Review Submitted: 09 July 2012

My stay at Upton House was one of the best I've had in Cornwall. The location and setting of the property is truly unique with landscaped gardens and lots of places to sit and enjoy the views. A huge open planned kitchen which links the main lounge with a fantastic conservatory makes for lots of space for all the family to relax and enjoy. The master bedroom (super king bed!) is located at the back of the property overlooking great countryside views which can be enjoyed with total privacy. 2 ensuites, a master bathroom (with the biggest bath ever!) along with downstairs cloakroom provides lots of amenities to comfortably accommodate larger parties.
There's even 2 lounges, both with Sky so the kids and adults can indulge in their own preferences during the evening. And for when it rains there's an inglenook fire which makes the perfect setting for a romantic evening (or in my case, an excuse to get the jigsaw out!).
Direct rail links to Exeter to pick up family members are only 45 minutes away by car as well as flights to Newquay make Upton not just a great property but also a great location. Less than a 5 minute walk is the famous (and stunning!) Bude Canal and you're only 10 minutes away from spectacular coastal views which to the left takes you into Widemouth Bay and to the right along the coastline to Bude.
The house was very clean, modern and bright with a welcome hamper, courtesy of Elite West Holidays, on arrival (a cup of tea is definitely needed after a long trip!). There's lots of useful information about the property and the local area (restaurants, shops, walks, amenities etc) making Upton House a home from home experience for everyone to enjoy. Definitely try Life's a Beach for the best fish restaurant ever (and I'm not joking!) and try out the Weir Bistro on Bude canal for lunch and great coffee. The Bay View Inn on Widemouth Bay for the Rack of Ribs (not for the faint hearted!) whilst watching the sunset is a must! If you like wine, definitely visit NC Wine on the high street and say hi to the owner, Oliver, not only will he blow you away with his knowledge of fine wines, there's also a discount for those who stay at Upton.
In some ways I'm reluctant to share my experience as I'm not sure I want everyone to know how great it is! Anyway, your choice, but hurry, before everyone else catches on!
Owner's Response: Wow! Thank you Lindsay for such a glowing review of both Upton House and the local shops, restaurants and facilities. I am really delighted you enjoyed your stay with us and very much look forward to welcoming you back soon. Nick
