We have lived here for about 20 years. We completed the Cottage in 2012. Jenny is a family physician. I am a teacher. We have 2 children, one in college and the other in high school.
Frazier Worth purchased this cottage in 1994
The Cottage is in a quiet pastoral, farming community. We like the privacy and peace we find here. We've spent a lot of time working on the gardens, flowers, and landscaping. You can pick raspberries in the morning to put on your cereal.
The Cottage is our project. We designed it to be very comfortable for a couple. It is simple but elegant with everything you could need. There is a lot of light, front porch and deck, and internet.
Unplug and relax in this wonderful Cottage. The serenity, peace, and quiet this Cottage offers is a welcomed perk. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by the sweetest horses which my husband and I adored. The Cottage is sitting on beautiful grounds. We can see that during the harvest seasons, these grounds are bursting with activity. The Cottage offers everything you need and nothing that you don’t. It’s not cluttered and it’s CLEAN. Little touches can make such a difference and the Owner’s take the extra step to make you feel at home. Thank you Jenny & Frazier!
We enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage. Nice kitchen and bathrooms, comfortable bed and linens.
This is a quaint, private, peaceful cottage with a fun design. Even though it is nearby the main house, we did not notice this at all - the only window with a view towards the main house is the one by the kitchen table (and we were there when all the leaves were off the trees, garden was put to rest, etc. - in other words - with no foliage cover). Otherwise, views were over a pasture or yard - lovely. The gas "wood stove" creates wonderful warmth and great atmosphere on chilly mornings. The upstairs bed is comfortable and HUGE - a fun perk. We would stay here again if it weren't for two quirks:
1. The hot water situation. The hot water is plentiful and has a good temperature. The quirk is that it comes from the main house, and takes a looooong time to reach the cottage. They say 2-3 minutes, and it might have been only that long - but it felt like we were wasting an incredible amount of water waiting for it to heat up. Small things like handwashing, a quick dish wash, or brushing teeth ended up taking longer and feeling wasteful.
2. The flies and wasps. It's highly possible this was due to the time of year we visited - late November. But there were literally dozens of flies in the cottage, largely centered on the upstairs window in the bedroom. We killed at least 30 flies and 2-3 wasps during our stay.
I happily recommend a stay at the cottage. We spent a week in summer 2014. Everything was new. As pictured, there are peaceful pastural views, a very comfortable bed and a high quality washer/dryer. The quiet setting provided a welcome retreat from our daily activities. On most days, we hiked in the mornings, and went into city of Asheville in the afternoons & evenings. This was our first visit to the area and we found so much to enjoy that we didn’t spend much time in the cottage. Maybe we’ll learn to relax more next time. Be aware that there is no walkway, so when you’re heading out for dinner at one of Asheville’s many excellent restaurants, it is wise to carry your good shoes and wear a pair of sandals or sneakers to go through the grass between the cottage and the driveway.
Though, cottage is a bit misleading. The clean, uncluttered, yet warm environment was refreshing. While we only used this "mountain retreat" to sleep, and were out and about in Asheville while in town, the bucolic setting would be welcome for relaxation and renewal.
The cottage was clean, comfortable, and quiet. We enjoyed reading in the living room and walking up the curved stairway to the comfortable king bed in the loft bedroom/bathroom. The sounds of the many birds in the morning ( and sometimes at night) was a symphony ! Bring your binoculars to see them up close. With the full kitchen and washer - dryer you are right at home. It's a short drive to Adheville and The Blue Ridge Parkway. The owner is friendly but gives you the privacy and peace you come to a beautiful place like this for. My wife and I look forward to a return trip so we can drive our track ready Mazda Miata on the Blue Ridge Parkway ! We we're grateful to be able to bring out 11 lb Terrier along for his first " road trip " too !
We are located 20 min SE of Asheville. Asheville sights include The Biltmore House, Blue Ridge Parkway(10 min. away), eccentric, vibrant downtown with shopping, music and excellent restaurants.
Closer to our home there are quiet country lanes for walking and beautiful countryside.
Asheville has become a fine dining destination with too many fine restaurants to count. We love to go out ourselves and we can guide you to many of the best restaurants. Asheville also has many local beer breweries, making Asheville a great place to sample the best of independent brewing. Downtown is alive until all hours of the night with many coffee shops and bars many of which offer entertainment.
We also enjoy hiking in the area or just going to a local swimming hole in a beautiful creek or one of several rivers in the area. Rafting and canoeing are easy options here, also biking on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Rock climbing is also available at nearby Chimney Rock State Park.
