CITY CENTRE APARTMENT IN GRANADA

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in Granada - Real de Cartuja 52

2 Bedroom (1 double bed +1sofa-bed 2-3 adults; ideal for a couple with children)

Bright and sunny apartment, recently refurbished, and equipped with all kinds of household appliances. Located in the city centre of Granada with great variety in restaurants and shops in your environment, 5 minutes walk to the commercial Gran Vía and Calle Elvira, and 10-20 minutes walk to Moorish Barrio del Albayzin and University Campus. The apartment can be easily reached by car from Avenida de la Constitución (Jardines del Triunfo) up Cuesta del Hospicio (Hospital Real-University Headquarters) and up Real de Cartuja (signpost: bank office CajaGranada); a good option as well would be to take up Avenida de Madrid, reach Plaza de San Isidro, turn right to Ancha de Capuchinos and then left up Agua de Cartuja to Real de Cartuja just in front of the CajaGranada bank office.

Guestbook comments from the owner
Thanks for the information. We had a great meal last night at Tendido 1, absolutely first rate! And the wines were excellent. Thanks for the tip... Tickets for the Alhambra tomorrow.

The apartment has been great. Thank you for all your recommendations also.

Lovely stay in Granada

  • 4 out of 5
We had a great one-month stay in Calle Real de Cartuja with our 10-month old baby. The location was great, we felt like we live in Granada, and the street was quiet. As one of our neighbors said, it is more like living in a pueblo, or village than in the city. However, it was only a 15 minute walk to the city centre, and the tapas bars around the Plaza de Toros were even closer by.

Cristóbal was a very considerate host, we had all we needed for a comfortable stay with a baby. He arranged a feeding chair, baby cot, and even a tub for our little one. It was definitely a bonus to have a washing machine and even a dish-washer, all brand new. During a longer stay you start missing all kinds of kitchen utensils like graters or peeling knives, but for a short stay I'm sure there is all one would need.

We stayed in February, and experienced all kinds of weather during our stay - from sunny 18 degrees celsius to a snowstorm. With the heaters we managed to get the bedroom and living room comfortably warm, probably more so than in a regular Spanish home, but the stone floors were pretty chilly for a baby to crawl on.

Overall would definitely recommend the apartment for anyone wishing to visit Granada!

Good memories!

  • 5 out of 5
Hi all,

Me and my parents spent some lovely days in September, visiting Granada, were thrilled by Alhambra and the city altogether, from the central Gran Via de Colon and Cathedral area, to the Albaicin (or Albayzin) and Sacromonte ones, loved the narrow streets, where was the case, and found people very friendly.
Maybe too friendly sometimes – giving the fact that we’ve spent also the weekend there, and some neighbors were so thrilled with a wedding (supposedly), that they felt the need to share their joy almost all night long, but that’s understandable, and it was fun, though, to see them sitting around a table, in the middle of the small road behind our building, discussing and laughing heartily !
From the station a better solution is to take a taxi. We didn’t, but then we didn’t realize beforehand that Granada is on hills, so we had to go up hill a little bit more than expected…. Fortunately going to the station a few days later was easier…we didn’t took the taxi also, cause we left on time, so we took the pleasure of going to the central park area once again.
The apartment is great ! Modern, very clean, and well equipped.
And the host, a real gentleman.
Very attentive and careful to keep you informed, he speaks beautiful English and was a pleasure to communicate with.
His nephew welcomes the guests.
Around the apartment there are some busses, down a street, near Mercadona supermarket, there’s the 8 you could take to go down center. From the Cathedral area the bus 30 brings you to Alhambra. And also from there, for coming back to the apartment, you could take the 31 or 35, these two go further on to Albaicin (31) or until Sacromonte (35). I guess there are more, but then there’s Cristóbal, who will share with you any other information, before reaching the apartment.

Best regards,
Claudia Sanduleac,
Romania

Comfortable and happy stay

  • 4 out of 5
We're glad we chose this apartment. The owner, Cristóbal, was helpful in exchanging many emails before our stay; he also speaks excellent English. His nephew Vicente is on hand nearby in case of any problems. They met us on time when we arrived by bus and taxi from the airport.

The apartment faces onto a quiet, cobbled back street just off Calle Real de Cartuja. This is north of the city centre; an enjoyable 5 minute stroll takes you to Puerta Elvira and the beginning of Gran Vía de Colón; a further 10 minute stroll and you're at the heart of downtown (Catedral, Plaza Nueva etc).

It is also well located for finding local supermarkets (Carrefour for example) and we enjoyed the drinks and tapas at the bull ring, which is this side of town. Arguably it's just as good a place for tapas as Calle Navas, downtown; we divided our evenings between the two.

We travelled during August and were grateful that we could switch on the air conditioner when we arrived home on a hot afternoon. The apartment is shuttered so it doesn't overheat in the summer but still, when it's 40 degrees outside, the cool draft was welcome.

Just one note: many shops and even bars in Granada are closed for vacations during August, so don't plan on sticking too closely to what it might say in your guide book : )

We found a local bar / restaurant just down the street that we really enjoyed: Las Meninas de Velazquez. It's a neighbourhood bar, not part of a strip. The food was great, service friendly and the drinks, generous.

Another advantage of being on Calle Real de Cartuja is that the local touristic minibus services, (31 or 35 - can't quite remember but they are painted red, have 'Alhambra' written on the side and are €1.20 to ride) are routed via this street, so you can take the bus up through the Albaicín district (saving your legs from many hills) all the way to Sacromonte if you wish, which I recommend. In Sacromonte we learned about the cave dwellings and the history of Granada's suppressed peoples that lived in them, and also about origins and meanings of flamenco music.

Back to the apartment: I recommend it, you have good facilities, a small living room but a generous sized bedroom (with large wardrobes) and bathroom, as well as a nicely equipped kitchen. There are two front doors with secure locks and the serene neighbourhood means good nights' sleep. I hope you will enjoy your stay as much as we did.

Car: not necessary

Located in the city centre of Granada, very close to the famous Hospital Real Renaissance building, now the headquarters of University of Granada; 5 minutes walk to the commercial Gran Vía, Arco de Elvira and Calle Elvira and Jardines del Triunfo; 10-15 minutes walk to the Moorish Barrio del Albayzin, the Cathedral and Plaza Nueva area, as well as to the most popular 'tapas' circuit around the bullfighting ring. Bus lines 31 and 32 plus 8 and C run very close to the apartment and will connect you with the public transport network, but the salient thing about it is that you will be able to walk to almost all city landmarks while staying in a very quite and safe area.
