Clean Scottish self catering flat

Self catering in Fife - there is so much to do: A Fife self catering holiday has much to offer. Take the ferry from Anstruther harbour to the Isle of May at the mouth of the Forth estuary, to see the wonderful bird life (puffins and gilliwaites). Visit the beautiful village of Falkland and the palace, where Mary Queen of Scots played 'real' tennis (on the world's oldest court). Visit St Andrews and walk the famous Old Course, which is closed to golfers on Sunday but open for anyone to walk and enjoy the scenery. The town has much to offer, beautiful university buildings and quads, a ruined cathedral and castle, lovely pubs and restaurants, great shopping and the famous 'Chariots of Fire' beach - an absolute must. Stay at this Scottish self catering holiday flat and visit the coastal villages of the East Neuk of Fife, such as Elie with its lovely beaches, see the harbour and galleries in Pittenweem, sample the famous award-winning fish 'n' chips in Anstruther and stroll around the harbour (and try the fresh lobster) in Crail.

Scottish self catering, a home from home: When you are not out sampling the delights of the area, Mackenzie's is the perfect Scottish self catering holiday home. It is perfect for dining in, utilising the well equipped kitchen to turn out fantastic meals and serve them on the beautiful oak table looking out onto the garden and patio. Take advantage of the weather. Fife has its very own micro-climate and has less rainfall than other parts of Scotland. It's one of the reasons so many artists are based in the area along with the excellent light. The garden is south-west facing and during the summer months is perfect for barbecues (there's one in the garage). Curl up with a good book, there are plenty of those too, and be nice and toasty as this Fife self catering apartment has a fantastic central heating system to keep you warm on chilly nights. At any time of year, Mackenzie's in Fife is the perfect Scottish holiday home away from home.

About David & Christine Chafer

We live in South Yorkshire but have been holidaying in Scotland, specifically the Fife area and Edinburgh for the best part of 25 years. We love the area, landscape, coastline, countryside, scenery and of course the people. It's a warm and welcoming place with lots to do and see.

David & Christine Chafer purchased this apartment in 2008
Why David & Christine Chafer chose East Neuk of Fife

We had the opportunity to buy a holiday home in 2008 and this beautiful flat came up for sale after an extensive refurbishment - absolutely everything in the flat was new, all we had to do was furnish it. We called it 'Mackenzie's', to reflect David's family history: David's middle name is Mackenzie, after his maternal grandfather Jock Mackenzie who came from Inverness, making David a quarter Scottish - but he's not owning up to which bit! In the apartment you will find various items of Mackenzie memorabilia.

What makes this apartment unique

Mackenzie's is a fantastic location. The village of Upper Largo is quiet and peaceful, but has a handy local shop and a pub/restaurant just around the corner. The layout of the apartment with three separate double bedrooms, separate lounge, dining room and kitchen, with a large garage, plus patio and garden, just make for an ideal base to explore Fife. It's also a lovel walk over open countryside down to Largo Bay and Lower Largo, which has two great pubs/restaurants too. It is also brilliant for golfers! (David's a bit keen!). For Mrs C, she loves moseying around the villages and particularly St Andrews, for its history, views across the beach, cafes, restaurants and shopping! Also, it's only an hour to other great places to visit such as Edinburgh, Perth and Stirling. For us it's just a perfect combination for a holiday in that part of the world. We try and visit around three to four times a year and just love being in Mackenzie's and soaking up the delights of what the local area has to offer.

New year 2012/13 at Mckenzies

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 03 January 2013 Date of Stay: December 2012
Myself, husband, mum & dad and aunt & uncle returned home yesterday after a fabulous four night stay at this well equipped cottage. It has everything we needed and more and both showers were fantastic. Location is perfect in upper largo and perfect for those who enjoy walks - great views and about a 15 min walk to lower largo where you can enjoy the beach, lovely food at the crusoe hotel and great laughs and friendly staff at the railway inn where we brought in new year 2013. The owners made this a simple and straight forward booking with plenty of local information provided and all my family will not hesitate to return in the future. Thanks for everything

Very comfortable flat, conveniently situated

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 26 September 2012 Date of Stay: September 2012
The flat was spotlessly clean, warm, quiet, well equipped and comfortable, furnishings and decor pleasant and the situation very convenient, with a 'wee shop' and excellent hotel/ restaurant just a few yards away.

It was easy to visit the other small coastal towns in the area, and to get to larger towns like Cupar and Saint Andrews, and we also went into Edinburgh for a day (parked for free at Ocean Terminal to see the Royal Yacht Britannia, and caught a bus into the city centre!)

We were staying in East Neuk to visit family living in Cupar and to play golf, but we also visited National Trust properties at Falkland, Hill of Tarvit and Kellie Castle. There is plenty to do and see in the region, even if you are not a golfer and even if the weather isn't marvellous.

We must mention The Cocoa Tree Shop and Cafe in Pittenweem, where we drank the best cup of hot chocolate we have ever had!

Modern and cozy home!

Review Submitted: 16 August 2012 Date of Stay: July 2012
I absolutely loved my stay at Mackenzies. The house was so comfortable with basic and bonus amenities, and the location was also convenient. I especially loved the modern kitchen and bright bathroom! We were able to take day trips around Fife (like St. Andrews) and also go to Edinburgh without being confined to the big city. The house was accurately described in the listing, and the owner was very helpful in responding quickly to my queries. This was a perfect stay for my inaugural visit to Scotland. Thank you, Mackenzies!
